I just want to weigh in on the dog thing.

1) Not that it sounded like he was gonna take your advice, but getting a dog is serious business and you definitely shouldn't base the decision on temporary emotions.

2) Getting a dog (like having a kid) should basically be you committing to try to give it a good life. Sure, you can get by with not doing things right by your dog, and they'll still love you. But should you? If your dog has to spend like 75% of its time alone, it's not really having a better life. And you can't really blame it for chewing stuff up if that's the situation. Because dogs, like people, get bored.

An update, however:

sounds like this girl is a typical lower class trailer trash type of chick. Hopefully the OP makes having a college degree/career a bare minimum factor for future long term relationships. You can get lucky and find a diamond in the rough, and certainly plenty of college educated chicks are just as crazy, but it's a much lower proportion when looking at girls that are doing something useful with their lives.

Usually when people " shack up " for the weekend they have relations several times. Also, people don't "shack up" until they've been with each other for some time so she has been cheating on you with that guy before that weekend. There is also a high probability that she's had relations with that guy since you broke up, either to maker herself feel better or to try something with him.
