Majorly disappointed in this episode. It's like they spent all of their creative power on the 50th special and had nothing left for this one. 12/27/2013 1:46:02 AM |

Lot of mixed reviews on this episode, but I'm glad they finally tied up all those loose ends regarding "Silence will fall" and exactly what The Doctor saw in the hotel behind the door (his greatest fear). 12/28/2013 8:50:30 PM |

It was just lame compared to the 50th anniversary episode
Felt like an afterthought

I don't think it's fair to compare the Christmas special with the 50th anniversary episode of the entire series. Of course the latter is going to be huge. If it had been only equal to or not as good as the final episode with Matt Smith then the 50th anniversary episode would've been a let down, which I believe would've been worse. This episode was just setting up the doctor's next regeneration which has been done 12 or so times now. How could that have been better than a milestone episode for the show?
I was hoping the solution to his regeneration problem would've been better than the time lords shooting some regeneration dust through the break in the parallel universe though. The ending felt kind of hurried and a bit of a let down. 12/29/2013 11:25:55 AM |

In my opinion, they tried wrapping up too many plot points too quickly, and so the explanations seemed rushed and not thought through by the writers. Also, so much build up with announcing all the different foes but then none of them really came through as a major threat. The naked dinner party was funny and the last 5 minutes or so were properly emotional, but everything in between was bleh. Especially since they tried bringing the prophecy to fruition with the Great Intelligence on Trenzalore but since the fans didn't buy it, they did this to make up for it. They shaped this episode to fit the prophecy better, and it was, but not by much. 12/29/2013 10:41:21 PM |

I hate waiting so long between seasons/series.
In the meantime...someone please explain to me how the time lords could come through the crack? I thought it was the exploding TARDIS that caused the cracks in times and that the Pandorica closed all of them. 5/13/2014 1:51:55 PM |

^ Yes! I had to rewind a couple of times because I missed what was being said.
I liked the episode overall. Matt Smith's appearance was awesome. I watched the last episode with him in it before the premier and caught the phone off the hook on the TARDIS. Don't remember seeing that before, but it made for a nice tie-in. 8/24/2014 3:22:08 PM |

I've been trying to start a new thread for series 8 but keep getting an error message. Here's my thoughts:
I like that the show straight up admits to the audience that it will be difficult to get used to an older doctor. We'll be learning with Clara how to deal with it. That being said... very strange start. Too many callbacks to previous doctors, I feel like they already got that out of the way with the anniversary special. And the foreshadowing was much more direct than they usually make it this early in a season. It's always something... Bad Wolf, Torchwood, Saxson, planets disappearing, cracks in the wall, etc. And now it's the promised land/paradise.
I also think Jenny, Vastra, and Strax have become overused. 8/24/2014 4:22:07 PM |

Agreed about the callbacks, though: it seemed like they were just trying too hard to get you to like Capaldi immediately. 8/24/2014 6:09:39 PM |

Not a fan of his look. The shirt buttoned up all the way but without a tie looks awful, even though I've seen people trying to make it work on a number of shows outside of this. Either unbutton the top button or put a tie on.
Wish there were more dinosaur in this episode.
Outside of that I didn't think he did too bad of a job. 8/24/2014 6:29:28 PM |

^^^I would also enjoy that as a spin-off. I just feel like they didn't need to be in Doctor stories anymore. It's the same dynamic every time with no development. This episode should have put Clara alone with the doctor to force her to accept the new him. As much as I love Strax, he was a distraction. 8/25/2014 12:53:24 PM |

I really liked the most recent episode, Deep Breath. But I had two problems...
#1. The dinosaur didn't really contribute to the plot at all, so it just seemed kind of wasted. Not to mention the fact it introduces continuity questions for all previous Who, that were not really resolved. I mean, now time traveling dinosaurs have been apart of history for over 100 years. And that didn't really change the course of human events at all???
#2. Can Steven Moffat ONLY recycle ideas he created under Russell T Davies? He was obviously very proud of himself for creating the weeping angels and river song (since he almost couldn't go an episode without mentioning one or the other). Now he's bringing back the clock-work droids from the Girl in the Fireplace? Apparently nothing interests this guy about the Doctor Who universe except for the elements he contributed.

^On the topic of recurring dinosaurs -- how many times has the Doctor encountered dinosaurs? Is this the first time that he's mentioned that he "speaks" dinosaur? Regardless, if he speaks dinosaurs why would he never have tried to communicate with them in the past when they were chasing/trying to eat him? 8/26/2014 4:32:44 PM |

He's gone back in time far enough for there to be dinosaurs, but the only episode in recent memory that showed them was Dinosaurs on a Spaceship which is set in the future. And I don't think there was anything about speaking dinosaur. 8/26/2014 8:34:51 PM |

It took me a minute to really remember what the episode was about, which I guess sums up opinion about it: It was forgettable. The idea of going inside of a dalek was compelling (Innerspace meets Doctor Who), but it kinda fell flat for me. 9/3/2014 9:41:24 AM |

I felt that the second episode had a great plot premise but was knocked down a few levels by poor story telling. I liked the concept of exploring the Dalek psyche and showing the Doctor's inner anger, it just wasn't executed well. 9/3/2014 9:42:50 AM |

Sorry for being dense, but if the Doctor's hypothesis that there were these creatures that always stayed hidden was a figment of his imagination, then how is the bedroom scene explained at the beginning with the red sheet? 9/15/2014 2:47:07 PM |

To be honest, the scene with something underneath the blanket was sooooooooo good, I don't ever want to know what it was. Either there's a hidden monster following the doctor around, or it was just another boy from the school.
It's kind of like Matt Smith opening his door in the God Complex. When they revealed what was behind it in the last Christmas episode, I was incredibly disappointed. 9/15/2014 2:54:07 PM |

The object on the bed under the covers, the banging on the door outside of the spaceship, the thing trying to get into the Tardis...yeah definitely not just a figment of the Doctor's imagination.

Really liked this episode. Pretty sure it wasn't another kid from the school under the blanket-- there were no footsteps or anything when it entered and I think there was some kind of flash of light when it left. Also, if the Doctor and Clara were there I feel as if another kid would have been intimidated by them. I'd like to see whatever it was as a recurring theme this season. 9/16/2014 9:09:25 AM |

The past 2 episodes have gotten much better. I also like Capaldi's darker, less silly version of the Doctor. I'm assuming Danny Pink will eventually join the TARDIS crew at some point. Just seeing him go on awkward dates with Clara will get old. 9/21/2014 5:00:55 PM |
