^ yeah, he's more reactionary than he has been in the past. And he's killing without as much lead work and what not.
I hadn't thought about the idea that Deb may have poisoned herself. And yes, he definitely should have killed her rather than turn her in. That's beyond stupid. She knows about him and LaGuerta is really onto him now. You have a pissed off ex in jail who knows you're a serial killer and a police captain after to you who is very passionate about it, and she has the power to negotiate with the previously mentioned gf who knows your secrets and is looking at murder charges.
That part of all of this really does seem a little forced to me. Forced in that he had no reason to not kill her. He was going to do it once, and now he had reason to do it. With that plus the fact that she can hurt him, it makes no sense for him to turn her into the police. 12/10/2012 6:32:10 PM |

Dexter had never been in love before. Who's to say he had it in him to kill the one person that made him feel human?
Surely the Doakes thing has to be a flashback. Boy there are a shitload of people that could come down on Dexter right now. How he gets out of this one I don't know cause that was a damn good play by Laguerta. Been a great season, so many red herrings to throw us off the scent of Dexter getting arrested, it was all well thought out and far from predictable. 12/10/2012 7:32:51 PM |

^ true about the being in love thing, that may have played a part in his decision.
I've also decided that the only person I'll accept bringing down Dexter is Batista.
And I don't know if the writers read t-dub or what, but I said this back in november about doaks:
Quote : | "And the final scene of the series is Dexter walking into his apartment (just after getting away with killing Laguerta probably), and he tosses his keys down with that Dexter smirk on his face as the theme music starts to fade in. Leaving the audience to think that this is how the series will end... Dexter just continuing to be Dexter. And then... "Surprise motha fuckas!" |
I think hallucinations should count... even if they're a season earlier than i predicted.12/10/2012 8:39:05 PM |

Don't think he had it in him to kill Hannah, but I think Deb poisoning herself could be legit. This season has done its best to make you think one thing and then veer in the complete opposite direction. Was thinking the thing with Estrada was a set up, seemed to time up together too well with LaGuerta's suspicions. Should be a pretty fun season finale, first time I've really looked forward to one since Season 4. 12/10/2012 10:25:42 PM |

But I assume that someone would report him missing sooner or later. 12/12/2012 9:56:21 AM |

Yeah, I'm curious how they're going to clean this up since Deb's car (presumably with the LoJack like LaGuerta's) is at the scene, and now her gun did the shooting, she was hugging the body, etc.

That doesn't seem like a huge deal; since LaGuerta and Deb are both cops in the same department, it's pretty likely they would be carrying the same gun and using the same ammo. Assuming no other witnesses in earshot, they could just discharge a round from LaGuerta's gun and leave it. The real problem is explaining why she got shot while already sitting/cowering down, from a standing position that's not even close to where dude's body and blood were lying. The gun can be faked, but all the other forensics evidence is totally messed up.12/17/2012 3:07:10 PM |

So how is Deb not fucked? Her gun was used to kill LaGuerta 15 minutes after she called dispatch asking for the tracking on her car? Would they not just check the lojack on Debs car to see that she clearly was there? He figured out LaGuerta was trying to frame him with the guy who ordered the hit on his mother and managed to put in motion a set of events that looked like she in fact framed him, with his bloody shirt from the 70's, remember? To be fair, the plan was to shoot her with the gun Estrada had so that it looked like they got into it somehow. That did not happen.
She was shot with Deb's gun, probably police issued or legitimately registered in her name. They can't leave that at the crime scene. So the actual gun that killed her will not be there. He hadn't shot Estrada with LaGuerta's gun yet. So assuming Deb and LaGuerta have the same caliber weapon, he could switch it. He can make it look like there was a struggle, Estrada shot LaGuerta with her own gun, she shot him with Estrada's gun or her own before or after he shot her. The issue there is that if they were to test the bullets to match them to the gun, the bullet in LaGuerta would not match any weapon at the scene. So that plan only works if that's not tested (and it's a tv show so who knows whether that will happen or not).
On top of what will be a faked crime scene, there was a phone call from Deb to someone to get a location on LaGuerta at what I'm assuming was less than an hour before she was murdered. Deb's car (assuming it has GPS since LaGuerta's did) showed up where here body/car was. Deb, it seems, did not call in the murder... AND THEN went back to the party. Assuming it's found out, her car being there is extremely problematic. Her going back to the party and not saying anything will just make it even worse. Even if it's not found out that Deb's car was there right away, anyone knowing that Deb knew she was at the shipping yards on New Year's eve would think "wtf, you didn't think that was odd?... oh, and where did you go?"
Oh, and LaGuerta just tried to "plant evidence" on Dexter... so there's a reason to think Deb may be upset with LaGuerta. Also, Batista knows that Dexter's whereabouts were unknown when LaGuerta was killed.12/18/2012 10:55:41 PM |

I wonder if Dex will stick to this whole "Estrada is the last" angle they were working with. They've been slowly showing his burgeoning humanity the entire series, it's only kind of logical they work that angle for the last season. I'll be Batista as the retired cop can't let LaGuerta's disappearance go and is the one to finally oust Dexter (and thereby maybe Deb) for what he is. 12/19/2012 7:27:28 AM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not sure I caught the whole "Estrada is the last one" thing at any point. He's the last of the men responsible for killing his mother, but I don't recall anything about him being the last person Dexter will kill.
That being said, I've been thinking they could do something along those lines. Part of this season has been Hannah "questioning" his "dark passenger." And he sort of came around to seeing that it is a choice to some extent. And if it's choice, that means he's not a slave to it and could choose not to kill. And they've played the whole, "would things have been the same if his dad didn't label him so early" angle for a while now. I could see them going that route. But I think I would prefer that he gets killed or arrested and not simply get away with it. 12/19/2012 7:52:03 PM |

I rewatched it last night. I thought this was a great season and really enjoyed the lack of mid-season lulls that previous seasons had a habit of falling into. Things that I noticed/thought about this time around:
-The warrant already has the judge's signature on it, so there's definitely copies of the papers filed with the court and the data is likely on its way (somewhere). -Deb definitively identifies herself when calling dispatch to find Laguerta's location, -People are assuming that the cops are tracked from a lowjack on their car but maybe they are tracked based on their radio. This might mean the locations of everybody could still be covered up. -Between the goodbye in jail and the black phalaenopsis I would not expect Hannah to surface next season. -People are assuming that this is going to really fuck with Deb's head. That was my initial reaction but now I'm not so sure. Laguerta directly threatened her (and Dexter) with the gas station footage and really backed her into a corner. I'm thinking now that there's a possibility that she may have enjoyed the kill in spite of being so immediately emotional, especially given the contentious nature of the season. -Is Harrison autistic or developmentally delayed? I think he is though the show hasn't touched on it. -I can see Quinn using Jamie to dig for dirt on Dexter and be the one to bring him down if their relationship advances. -The theme of the season, do whatchya gotta do (i.e. survival), was much more subdued than the obvious theme of religion last season. It was just different enough from season 2 to give the season its own distinct flavor. 12/20/2012 12:41:08 PM |
duro982 All American 3088 Posts user info edit post |
^ I thought when Deb called in they specifically mentioned the word car? Or maybe it was in the warrant that Dexter read, so I just assumed they tracked LaGuerta the same way. Either way, someone knows that she called for her location. She then left the party. LaGuerta's time of death will be in that time frame. It's more than enough to look further into it. And I just realized this... if it is a GPS in the car.... Deb's car was just wrecked. Maybe there hasn't been time for a gps to be installed in her new car.
I don't think Deb will end up "enjoying" it in any sense. She chose Dexter over LaGuerta, nothing more. And it was clearly extremely conflicting for her. She's not going to get over that in a short time period. And I'd be surprised if the time-span of the next season is very long. 12/20/2012 2:27:10 PM |

I think the kid isn't the best 4 year old actor or whatever age he is. So his age keeps getting masked because the kid can't read lines all that well. Not like they picked the four year old that had any acting ability to play the role, the kid was shoehorned into it by virtue of getting older.
This could also be why the kid isn't in a more prominent role, too.12/28/2012 10:05:52 PM |
