I'm going with Kevin Smith as one of my starters. Went with the wait on RB's strategy and ended up with Smith and Doug Martin as my two top backs. Could be risky.
Had someone propose Gore and Heath Miller to me for Greg Olsen (my backup TE to Gates). But I really don't know if I want to upgrade my RB's with Gore? Anyone really high on Gore this year? 8/29/2012 7:32:08 AM |

Are those your only two backs? I'd do that trade in a heartbeat. Granted I'm not very high on Gore, but you need depth and giving up only Olsen is a steal. 8/29/2012 8:18:05 AM |

so is MJD going to play or what?
I spent a mid round pick on him, but was able to handcuff Ben Tate to Foster and get Doug Martin in late rounds. if MJD plays i'll feel really good 8/29/2012 8:24:06 AM |

^^ Not my only two backs, but my starters. I've got Issac Redman, CJ Spiller, Toby Gerhart, and David Wilson - so yea, I need a RB upgrade.
Maybe I'm just being a Panthers homer, but I think Olsen is going to have a big year and Heath Miller hasn't been good in two years and I doubt that changes now so if Gates goes down I'm screwed. Not to mention there are 4 RB's on the roster in SF right now to compete with Gore.
^ I think MJD will play at some point, but based on all the stats, he won't have a good season. Only Emmitt Smith has come back from holding out and ended up having a really good season. Not to mention the Jags offense is probably going to be horrible.

Gore is a much safer bet than either of your two starters, a pretty big upgrade imo. Miller is garbage as a fantasy TE, but if it's trading backups, I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure you can pick up a free agent who will be better than him.
If all you are losing is olsen I would accept that trade as fast as possible.

Any thoughts on this trade that I was offered would be welcome:
I get: AP, Mike Wallace, Pierre Thomas, Toby Gerhart, Santonio Holmes
I give: Roddy White, MJD, David Wilson
I'm not that big on Thomas or Holmes. But I'm also not all that big on MJD either. I like Roddy White a lot. I'm not as big on Mike Wallace this season, although he should still have a great year...
Here's my team for reference.
QB: Eli, RG3 RB: Rice, MJD, David Wilson, Beanie Wells WR: Roddy White, Marques Colston, Brandon Lloyd, Reggie Wayne, Michael Crabtree, Mike Williams TE: Tony Gonzalez
.5 PPR league, start 2 RBs, 3 WRs. No flex position.
I'd love to upgrade at QB, but I he's got Brady and I don't expect him to trade Brady. 8/29/2012 9:34:11 AM |
GoldieO All American 1801 Posts user info edit post |
^ Could end up working out really well, but I think it's high risk/reward. I don't trust AP, I think Holmes will be garbage with the Jets offense situation, and Pierre is splitting carries with a lot of backs.
I'm high on Roddy White, and I really like David Wilson, I own both in my league. 8/29/2012 9:49:41 AM |

And I'd have to end up dropping two guys to keep my roster at 15. I'm with you, I really don't like Holmes at all. Thomas is a big question mark. Gerhart is nice to have if/when AP has to sit out.

I picked up 3 QB's in the draft by accident, got Schaub and RWilson as my backups to Brady. Gotta drop one of the QB's to make room for a DEF player, anyone think I should keep RWilson over Schaub? Lots of upside with Wilson, but he's got a pretty crappy group of WR's. 8/29/2012 10:38:15 AM |

Can you trade him? that seems like the logical thing.
my draft is tonight...theres a guy willing to trade his first round draft spot(we wont know what # picks till an hour before) for a 2nd and 4th.
its a 6 td passing league.
is it worth that trade? 2 first rounds in return for no second and 4th? 8/29/2012 11:47:11 AM |
ndmetcal All American 9012 Posts user info edit post |
My theory on 6 pt TD passing leagues is that it really only becomes a difference maker if you play 2 QBs. Other than that, the difference between top tier QBs & middle round QBs still isn't as large as the dropoff between top tier RBs & middle round QBs
As for your trade, it depends on if you want to gamble. I'd probably roll the dice with it, personally

I think I'd take that trade as well. Just risky considering you don't know which spots in the first you'll have yet. But even if you end up with two late first round picks, you'll still likely land Brady/Rogers/Brees and then be able to grab a top tier RB/WR too. 8/29/2012 12:27:16 PM |

I don't think Schaub is overrated. Most listings I've seen have him as the 12th to 15th best QB. I haven't seen him ranked in the top 10 anywhere. I just don't know if RWilson will keep up the hype once the 1st team defense is on him for a whole game.
Brady is my starter, Schaub is just my backup.

I think i may do the trade. Its only a 10 person league so there will still be depth...and I get 2 first rounds and a 3rd. hopefully he has a top 4 pick and I could trade to land Rogers/Brees/Brady then pick up an elite RB
the WR pool is deep this year. I could also draft 2/3 of those QBs and use them as trade bait for a good RB.
I like the possibilities of having two first round choices. 8/29/2012 12:53:12 PM |

Just had the draft order given/set.
He has the 2nd pic out of 10, I have the 6th. Im pretty positive im making the swap now.
That could land me Rogers and a Johnson or McFadden. I think i may take Rogers with that 2nd pick.
Or should i take an elite RB and then see if Brees/Brady/Rogers are left at 6? 8/29/2012 2:14:59 PM |

I'd definitely do the trade if I was you. At 6, Rodgers will likely be gone. But you should still be able to get Brady or Brees. I guess it depends on how much you value Rodgers.
If it were me, I'd probably take an RB (Rice, probably) with the #2 and then hope for Brees, Brady with the 6th. If you don't get either of them, then Run DMC, Chris Johnson, Calvin Johnson would all be available.

Per ESPN.com OR = Overall Rank PR = Positional Rank ADP = Average Draft Position PP = Projected Points
Frank Gore - OR = 35, PR = 15, ADP = 36.5, PP = 177 Heath Miller - OR = Outside top 200, PR = 22, ADP 170.0, PP = 60
vs.
Greg Olsen - OR = 140, PR = 14, ADP = 133.3, PP = 82
While their positional rankings are relatively close, the overall value of a RB vs. a TE is so big that whoever vetoed it sees it as largely imbalanced. The average draft position is proof of this. Also projected points are too far apart for some people to view it as balanced. I'm not saying that I agree with the veto, I'm just saying I understand some of the rationale.

Drop Daniel Thomas for Doug Baldwin in 12 team 0.4 PPR league?
Can start 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 WR/TE, 1 WR/RB. So can start a max of 3 RBs & max of 4 WRs.
RBs: Chris Johnson, Steven Jackson, Darren Sproles, Stevan Ridley, Daniel Thomas WRs: Andre Johnson, Antonio Brown, Jeremy Maclin, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Jon Baldwin
I'm thinking I should since DThomas hasn't had good reviews in preseason so far. What you say?
Also, I have Jake Locker as a backup to Rivers. Carson Palmer is available, but I like the upside to Locker. Stick with Locker or pick up Palmer? 8/30/2012 8:58:46 AM |

^^ I think it's Week 1, those stats are tough to rely on. If it were close to playoffs I could see the concern over the imbalance, but this early who knows what Gore/Olsen actually ends up doing.
^ I drafted D. Thomas and then ended up dropping him this week bc I play in a league with individual defensive players (not happy about that...) and I had to make room. I think the whole MIA offense is going to be pretty bad this year so at this point the odds are in your favor with Baldwin. 8/30/2012 9:09:31 AM |

GoldieO - I see your point, but there is such a huge gap between what experts are projecting them to do, I can see the veto being done. If Olsen was projected within 30-40 points of Gore, then I think you'd have had a different result in the trade attempt. Or if you tossed in a 2nd player, say a WR like Dez Bryant, that is somewhere near the value of Gore... then I could see it going through.
I can't see a commish vetoing
Olsen + Bryant for Miller + Gore. You're giving up a WR with upside but off the field issues + your backup TE for an upgraded RB + less valuable backup TE.
Who do you have at WR? I'd try to lowball a WR back with Olsen for Gore + Miller and see if you can push it though. Lowball it with a Steve Johnson, Torrey Smith, Jeremy Maclin level guy and see if you can push it through. 8/30/2012 9:20:52 AM |

It's a .5 PPR. I have Roddy White/Torrey Smith/Desean Jackson/Greg Little/Davone Bess
I'm thinking the commish vetoed the trade bc he wants me to trade with him. I shot down two of his insane trade offers already, but after that Gore/Olsen trade was vetoed he sent me DeMarco Murray/Ryan Williams/Demaryius Thomas for RWilson/Roddy White/Doug Martin. I need to upgrade RB but ain't giving up Roddy White so I countered with RWilson/Doug Martin for Demarco. We'll see if he takes it. 8/30/2012 9:30:30 AM |

If your commish is vetoing trades for his own gain, then you need to man up and stop that shit. Or quit. Because that is bullshit.
But I'm of the opinion that you only veto trades if you suspect cheating or collusion, and apparently everyone else that plays fantasy thinks the veto button is part of strategy, so what do I know.
Had my 10 team ESPN standard scoring keeper league draft last night, and I wound up with both Maclin and Desean Jackson. What do you guys think of a situation like that? Here are my Wr's:

I generally steer clear of 2 WRs from the same team. What's good about it is, you're probably getting the same # of total points from the 2 combined every week. What's bad is... if Philly goes up against a team that's great against the pass, or if their QBs all get hurt or something... then you're up the creek.
I look at fantasy football like playing the stock market. You're generally safer if you diversify. However, sometimes to hit it big you take a gamble. I hope it works out in your favor! 8/30/2012 10:10:38 AM |

^ No. You managed to collect a decent group of WR's. Blackmon has looked good in preseason, has some good upside, but doesn't look like you need another WR. Unless you have Graham/Gates/Gronk and maybe Hernandez, I say you play the waiver wire with TE's this year for the most part. But I am still high on Olsen based on his targets in preseason. 8/30/2012 1:23:10 PM |

He could be... or he could be the 30th best WR... or he could get cut for violating team rules. Frank Gore could be a top 10 RB in an ideal world where he doesn't get hurt and Alex Smith learns how to hit a WR with regularity.
My point wasn't about Bryant specifically. It was that he has to bring the trade values more in line with both sides getting some semblance of equal benefit. Gore + Miller for Olsen is no where near equal value if both are at their historical performance levels. He can still put together a deal that appears more balanced while still getting the better end of the deal. Tossing in a midlevel player at another position or a high upside high risk guy is an easy way to even the appearance of the value.8/30/2012 1:33:03 PM |

$200 salary cap.
Below is what I paid for them last year. First year you keep them add $10 to the salary. So, definitely keeping Jordy Nelson and AJ Green. Should I keep Cam at $30 this year as well or use the savings on the WRs and overpay a bit for an Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees?
QB Cam Newton $20
RB/WR WR Jordy Nelson $1 WR A.J. Green $10
