The problem with so many poltically charged debates is that they could all be easily best explained by a scientific panel. But, people don't want science they want support for what they believe in so they find whatever bullet point helps them out regardless of how unscientific it is.

Also, real scientific research takes a ton of thorough work. Much more so than saying "well, there was a police officer at columbine".

I'm not trying to knock the value of science. I'm just noting that in this case, any good social scientist or econometrician could poke giant holes in almost any criminology study out there.

I dunno, at the moment I dont have the time to look into this as I am writing my dissertation, but I would bet my left nut that a thorough, critical analysis would come to one solid conclusion.

But, based off of what I do know, I think that the situation really isn't that bad compared to the rest of the world. Both sides have good arguments/counter arguments. The majority of this debate is prolly intiated to some extent by those that would best profit from it. You know, as Lenin would say and all.
