I guess that makes sense for the weighted pull-up with bands, but it still is stupid to over-complicate a pull-up. I mean if you are a stud at it, then add weight and see how well you do. Adding a band to assist on the initial pull is overdoing it. If we did that at our CF gym, I would just leave.

And that overhead squat-box jump combo is like a recipe for death. Who the fuck would actually want to attempt that. Overhead squats are hard enough by themselves without trying to add in other bullshit.

I am well aware that crap is the minority but it is another reason I am glad I stopped doing CrossFit. That kind of shit is just embarrassing. That and a seemingly careless attitude that HQ takes in regards to that and other quality control issues. Some guy that was a coach at my old box just opened his own and the one time I actually asked him for help (asked him to help look at my form on clean and jerk) he was absolutely clueless. However, now this guy runs his own gym and is the head coach.

Back to my workout regimen.
120 days to bulk and put on as much muscle as possible and then a solid cut cycle for the spring and into the summer.

Looking to put on 15 lbs. eekkkkk...gonna be a lot of eating.

ha...difference is I can actually do it. It is harder to gain that weight than lose it...but I did it last spring and then injured my shoulder so i had to stop lifting.

I'm pretty sure I can do 10...so why not aim for 15.

Flax doesn't really offer any benefits. The ala conversion rate is too low.

Fish oil has too many benefits to list. I take 10 a day. That should get you yo saturation levels for the most benefits

10? you're low on your fish oil levels. I take a whole bottle a day.

You talking to your alias now?

But yeah, fish oil is way better. Plant-based omega 3 fatty acids get converted to the the fatty acids found in fish oil, but the conversion rate is only about 3-5%.

You can take both, as flax oil has other benefits as well.

How hard is it to just...eat worse? Gaining weight is easy, gaining muscle is hard.

Yeah, I'm on this. Started taking BJJ this month, doing that at least 3 times a week plus getting back to eating real, actual food instead of fast food every other meal should do it.

I'm fucking done with most cardio now, my knees are just getting to be too bad, so it's probably going to be just cycling for cardio, BJJ/grappling for overall strength, and maybe do weights once or twice a week.

Holy shit, he lost so much fullness. I'm assuming he had a pump in the first pic, and maybe he's flexing his traps and lats, but despite the weight loss, he doesn't look any leaner at all, just smaller.

^^look at how much leaner his face is after he removed all that water bloat.

I read an article once about a powerlifter that lost 25 pounds during his 8 hour drive to the Arnold Fitness Classic by wearing a sweatsuit and cranking up the heat in his car. He left for the powerlifting competition weighing enough to be in the 274 weight class, and by the time he got to the event he was at the 220 weight class. He was able to fill back out in another day and set a record for one of the three lifts.

yes i know we are 70% water, but can you (a cut person, not a fatty) seriously lose so much water that your biceps, pecs, quads, and waist go down by 4 to 5 inches in 24 hours? wtf.

It's pretty common for powerlifters and boxers/MMA participants to lose that much weight in 24 hours if they are in the 200+ pound range to begin with. They can lose that much water weight in about 3 hours with diuretics like Lasix and Bumex.

Come on now. You're totally into those ladies shopping half-clothed at the grocery store. Sometimes a man's just gotta go shirtless on an escalator.

I saw this motherfucker sitting shirtless on the floor in a Verizon store a month or two ago.

It wasn't because he was trying to socially-inappropriately show off his body, though. He was just garden variety trailer trash. Well, OK, maybe extra-trashy. And trailery.

Started my long walks again today after a 2 week hiatus. Yes, I sound weak and pathetic but I could barely do 1.5 miles a day and I am pushing myself back up to 3. I feel like I am still doing well for 22 weeks pregnant, but this weekend I was sick and managed to over eat both Saturday and Sunday. I manage my eating really well when I am working but when I am not I tend to graze all day and not pay attention to what I'm grazing on. I HAVE to stop this because I have a lot of time off coming up for the holidays then I go part time and then for 2 months of the pregnancy I won't be working at all.

I'd never heard of that until you just mentioned it, but I was baffled by what came back. I'd like to hear it explained as anything other than modern day snake oil.

Progesterone triggers the negative feedback mechanism of the HPG axis harder than estrogen or testosterone, telling the body to shut down the production of other sex hormones. Why anyone would want to recommend supplementing with a hormonal cream that completely wrecks the body's natural hormonal regulating mechanism as a method for improving hormone levels in the body is beyond me.

The first 20 hits on Google are all people trying to sell progesterone cream with no explanation of the role progesterone plays in the body, so apparently there's enough money to be made selling these creams to justify a lot of advertising expense. A lot of their claims are outright lies too, like progestins prevents breast cancer and progestins prevent bloat.

I’m not a fan of trainers who play clinician. But many clients are gullible enough to take their words for it…cus you’re paying for their services I guess. I also don’t believe in vitamins and supplements all that much either, and esp. trainers who push them.

But I don’t know enough about ED in terms of fat storage and weight gain. But I’m a bit skeptical that you can magically take a cocktail of supplements and yield results. I think your estrogen levels and fat cells are linked genetically. I read somewhere that you cannot change the fat cells you were born with. So how much of this can you optimize with diet and vitamin supplements/

http://crossfitwilmington.com/2013/11/ladies-decrease-estrogen-lose-fat-increase-testosterone-lose-depression-and-get-stronger/

That article sounds like a whole lotta regurgitating from different websites.

Not familiar with it either. I'm having a hard time finding any credible research on it to debunk. There are apparently some claims that it may reduce menopausal symptoms or decrease risk/improve osteoporosis with not a lot of (or any) evidence.

So the last month has been a complete train wreck. We moved the beginning of October so there was a lot of eating out due to time constraints and not having a functioning kitchen. I also seem to have misplaced my Insanity program videos (hope to find those this weekend) so I’ve only been able to do some weight training when I’m able to get into the gym. I also haven’t been calorie counting, watching my macros or consuming as much protein as I have been prior. The nice thing is our new place has an adequate gym on site so it’s easy to walk across the parking lot and work out. That part is very convenient. Regardless, my lack of exercise and poor diet hasn't affected me as negatively as I would have thought. I have pretty much been able to maintain the gains I recorded the end of September. This is a pic from last week. Sorry for it being a bit blurry...it's hard to take a pic steady with one hand.

I’m hoping to get into the groove again as soon as I can find my videos. I still need to lose 10-15 lbs before summer.

People have probably given recommendations throughout the past few years but I don't want to look...

Anyone have recommendations for their favorite protein? I'm looking to start doing shakes for meal replacement at breakfast and then for after lifting.

Meat, of course. Chicken or Turkey is my preference.

Oh, you mean protein powder. Trutein Cinnabun is the best I've had, but it's a little more expensive than ON.

I like ON for whey and Nitrean for a blend. It is the only blend I have tried that doesn't rip my stomach to hell. That being said, it is increasing in price and decreasing in availability so I typically stick with ON.

I made the mistake of getting Phase 8 one day when it was on a pretty huge sale and it tastes great but I will be shitting myself for the rest of the day if I drink it.

Let's talk shoes.

I need a new pair since my reeboks are all but slick on the bottom now.

I need something I can workout in with weights but also put some miles down as far as runs are concerned.

New Balance is out...the mess with my knees.

Any recommendations? probably gonna buy a pair over black friday

I picked up a pair of Nike Free Trainer 5.0 about a month ago. They are great for the gym and plyometrics. Haven't' put any miles on them though.

Thats what I was actually looking into, the free's.

I considered the reebok zigs for awhile but havent heard great things about them.

I may pick up a pair of cheap brooks or asics for running, but I only do 3 miles at a time most days...nothing special.

The frees are decent quality?

Even three miles a day is significant, in my opinion. Go get fitted at a fancy running person store and then hit 'em up on Black Friday for the pair you need.

So what's the best training regimen to pack on the most amount of mass in the shortest amount of time for a skinny newbie?

StrongLifts 5x5?

I will be starting that next week once I have my gym membership.

Any personal experience with StrongLifts?

GOMAD (Gallon Of Milk A Day) is recommended along with it. I am only 140 lbs, so GOMAD is just crazy. I will start with LOMAD (liter), and that alone will give me 32 grams of protein, nearly doubling my current daily protein intake.

^^If you are looking to put on mass your nutrition plan is more important than what you are doing in the gym. You can lift your ass off, but if you aren't eating right you won't put 1lb of muscle on your frame

Those honeymoon pounds aren't coming off as easy as they were during the summer...but I attribute some of that due to the weather. I'm actually running a little bit more, but instead of sweating off five pounds in 90 degree heat, I'm barely breaking a sweat when it's 40 outside. But I came into winter at a much lower weight than I did the past two years, so I don't feel like a complete fat ass. I've got some good winter workout clothes this year too, so no "it's too fucking cold" excuses. And the dog needs running this year. He was just a pup last year and couldn't take long runs.

Getting ready for the holiday grind!

LOL if you only consume 16g of protein a day. Are you a vegetarian? I consume more than 16 g of protein before 7 am every day. Sounds like you will need to take at least a couple protein shakes a day too.
