You can only blame the coach for player turnover if it's herb.

Would it really be a miracle when he's gotten a transfer or juco every single year he's been here? alex johnson, ralston turner, dez lee, trevor lacey, terry henderson.

And the "Gott can't keep players around" I mean - Lewis transferred but wasn't really Gott's recruit. So hard to hold that against him. Purvis was a Gott recruit who transferred. Warren went pro and was a lottery pick. That's not indictment against Gott. DeShawn Painter transferred - not a Gott recruit. Zo and CJL went pro - again they weren't Gott recruits and nobody could really blame them for going pro when they did. If anything, CJL waited a year too long before going pro. Tyler Harris transferred - he was a Lowe recruit, right? Same with Jaqwan Raymond. And Thomas D'Thaey was a Lowe recruit too I think.

You're right, that seems like a lot of guys - but I'm not buying that it's a Gott problem. Several of those guys weren't Gott recruits. And a few went pro - which isn't a bad thing, really.

IMO this has nothing to do with Gott or NCSU. He wants to work on his game and develop his abilities with the best coaches/trainers without the impediment of classes/homework. He can work full time on his skills and body in preparation for the draft. If no team drafts him then he goes overseas and makes money. I dont see much downside to his decision. He wont gain much more from another year.

Well I'm sure we can get a transfer, but can we get a good transfer?

Does Gott's track record with getting transfers speak otherwise?

right. it's not like if he goes undrafted he is a failure and will never make the NBA. he can get paid to improve on his game and become an NBA player rather than play another season while not getting paid. or he's destined to be an overseas player no matter what - and another season in college isn't changing that.

whether or not he gets drafted has little bearing on whether this was the "right" decision. he wants to play in the NBA - he gets a chance to pursue that goal while getting paid. good for him

also, the idea that Gott can't keep players here. what about the several transfers that have left schools to come play for Gott? can't you jump to just as many conclusions by looking at things with that perspective?

If only we had lost to LSU, none of this would be happening.

we'll still be good next year, it isn't the end of the world. it's just very surprising and raises some questions on how we'll address it. I'm sure Gott will figure something out if he hasn't already.

I'm not surprised this happened. I'm a little surprised it took this long - I kind of figured he would've declared earlier to get a feel of where he was at from pro scouts then make a decision whether to pull out or not. But the reality is he's old for college and basically is what he is.

Thats some serious denial right there. You just came up with literally like 10 different excuses for players leaving the team.

This along with his excellent recruiting are both red flags actually. They signal that he is making amazing promises to these kids and their experience ends up being nowhere near the expectation he made them believe in. Once they realize this, they leave immediately.

I could understand people calling me a troll for wondering about this 2 years ago but now that it has happened soo many times in soo many consecutive years to just look it off anymore. The larger the data set becomes, the more concrete my conclusion becomes.

you mean all the players that he didn't recruit that left? i mean - yeah sure that's an excuse. but i'd say it's a pretty valid one. do you actually wish jaqwan raymond, thomas d'thaey, deshawn painter, and tyler harris had stayed? harris was the best out of any of those guys and we didn't miss him for a second. so get the fuck outta here if you think the fact that garbage ass players the previous coach recruited should have stayed to play for a coach they didn't commit to.

Wanna hold Purvis against Gott? Go right ahead.

I'd be more worried if this hasn't become a ridiculously common thing at almost every college these days. Before today, I was starting to get surprised that we were going to get through this offseason unscathed.

yeah, it was shaping up to be kinda an odd offseason. only losing seniors, not adding any recruits. would've been weird (and too damn convenient, i guess) to not lose any underclassmen, but also not add anybody new on campus.

but losing lacey and washington pretty much assures we'll add a late recruit or juco or grad transfer guy. i'd imagine the staff would go after somebody immediately eligible as opposed to a transfer who'd have to sit a year.

The Ennis kid from Villanova is transferring...He's experienced and those Ennis dudes have a knack of being better than advertised.

With Lacey and Washington I figured we would finish 5 or 6 in acc. I will drop that to 7 or 8 now. The weight on Barber and Abu's shoulders just got much bigger.

I can think of zero reasons why we shouldn't be in Tyler Harris' living room begging him to come back

Espn is being extra harsh. In the article about Lacey they said we were gonna be top 25 and now we may be a fringe tournament team.

Sounds about right. People let 1 game forget about how subpar we were this year. We lose 2 of our top 3 players and i dont see anyway we wont be somewhere between also receiving votes and bubble.

[Edited on April 15, 2015 at 11:48 PM. Reason : we were never gonna be a top 4 acc team. that was delusion all along]

if you look past the scoring numbers and the veteran leadership, I don't think we'll miss Lacey

he was a shoot-first guard and that doesn't work in today's ACC

I thought of him as a pass first guard at least in the first half of the season. I think we tried to encourage him to take more shots when he had them.

Is anybody worried about whatever grades issue was mentioned earlier? The ncaa has shown they don't care about academics.
