caught a level 505 Evee in my building today and evolved it to a level ~1450 vaporeon using the Rainer thing to guarantee it. It's completely maxed out. I can't upgrade it til I level some more.
on that note - timing eggs to hatch at the same time, popping a lucky egg, and then evolving all the shitty pokemon you have saved up = 1-2 levels up 7/20/2016 1:49:47 PM |

I find or hatch a rare one every now and then but they are always so low in CP. I hatched a Hitmonlee the other day and its CP is like 84. Then I caught a freakin Pidgey with a CP of like 200. 7/21/2016 8:50:02 AM |

I still show the 3 footstep for everything glitch and yesterday when I went out for lunch it was so crazy with lures and stuff outside my office I must have crashed 7 times in like 3 minutes without actually catching anything. Eventually I had to just walk away while stuff continually spawned around me

Heres a pretty rad alternative while the tracker is down.
Set up the script on your computer for the area you want to explore, set the timeout for however long, and pull up the map on your phone while youre out. Make sure you create a new account to run the script, dont use your main.

I've got unlimited data on my plan
I'm kinda hoping that towards the end of the month less people will be playing due to data overages so maybe the servers won't be as overloaded.
Not that it will fix the biggest issues (*ahem*three footprint bug*ahem) but maybe I won't have to try to log in 3 times before finally getting in.

My wife and I started the Day the 3 step glitch happened, so we've never had "tracking" active. Given that we're both just enjoying walking around and catching whatever. It does suck to see something on the nearby that we want and not be able to figure out where it is, but we just accept it and try and walk around and get lucky.

so interesting story:
I was driving home today and noticed that the road next to my road was completely blocked off with crime scene tape and tons of police cars and news vans and stuff. (related to this: http://abc11.com/news/death-investigation-underway-on-leesville-rd-in-raleigh/1440942/) When i got home i was going to walk to lake lynn to meet up with some friends to do a little pokemon hunting. I decided to check pokevision before leaving and low and behold there is a fucking snorlax spawned right in the middle of the crime scene! i have a screen shot from pokevision but it shows my home address so im not posting it. I have never seen a snorlax in the area and nothing ever spawns this close to the house.. i fought the urge for a minute but i decided to walk over and try to get as close as possible..see if i could find it without actually having access to the street. im so happy i did..ended up catching a 1307 Snorlax! easily my strongest pokemon by a fucking long shot. lvl 15

Caught a haunter at the gas station this morning only 590 cP but had been a while since I had found something new.
Up to about 35k dust now. I decided I wasn't spending anymore dust until I got to trainer level 20 since it just seems like a huge waste. I pick off weaker gyms or toss mine in controlled ones but it doesnt seem worth making the push until at least that point. Hopefully I will hit 18 today sometime.

Caught a 1240 Snorlax the other day. Suddenly I can capture gyms so much easier. He's especially good at defending gyms since he is Normal Type and has no specific weaknesses. Course, I can only hold a gym for about 6 mins (Team Instinct ftw) but that is about twice as long as I could hold one before. 7/25/2016 4:34:12 PM |
LudaChris All American 7946 Posts user info edit post |
Yeah defending a gym for 21 hours seems damn near impossible unless you're in a very remote location. Had a Level 9 Valor gym in a neighborhood, felt pretty good about at least lasting 12 hours, didn't even come close. They definitely made attacking much easier than defending. Especially when you're able to use 2 people and attack together. 7/25/2016 8:48:16 PM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
^You can use at least 4 people and they don't have to be on the same team. The other night, myself and two other instincts were attacking a mystic gym and a valor guy came up and joined in. He asked if he could take the gym first, claim his coins, then we could take it from him. He was definitely in the battle with us, I could see his pokemon in the background.
Sidenote, I did find a really remote gym. I work on an Army base (built in the 1950s) and there is a lot of spread out/unused stuff. Way at the back end there are a bunch of bunkers leftover from the cold war. They are mostly just used for storage these days but one of them had a gym on it. The road to it was actually closed but I've been back there before so I knew of a side road. One of the bunkers has a gym on it, it only had a single 500cp Slowbro defending it so I took it down fairly easily. I've held on to it for ~15 hrs now. I'm hoping that only the original Slowbro guy knows about this place and since the main road is closed he won't be able to get back to it for a while. 7/26/2016 9:23:38 AM |

Is there even any advantage to holding one for more than a few minutes to collect your rewards? 7/27/2016 9:07:41 AM |
Wraith All American 27257 Posts user info edit post |
Only advantage I can see is that the longer you hold it, the more time you have to capture another one and get more rewards at once. And I guess you get some XP each time you capture one. I think in the future they are planning on adding more benefits to capturing/holding gyms. 7/27/2016 9:15:13 AM |

After going through with that calculator unfortunately most of mine suck . It is useful at least to know which pidgeys and rattatas suck the most quickly though. Now that I realize how the numbers game works and the fact it takes about 250,000 dust to max level a single pokemon I have to decide how I want to go from here. Do I simply go the route of only putting dust and candy into ones that are at least say 90% perfect even if they are crappy ones or do I say ok my 60% Vaporeon is good enough and dump all my dust into him. I am level 19 and have 50k dust now so obviously coming up with 250k per pokemon is gonna be ridiculous haha 7/29/2016 9:12:04 AM |

Remember that the moveset is the most important part. Having perfect IVs but garbage moves is worse than average IVs and good moves.
That's why the evolution game is so tricky. You might find a good IV Pokemon with high CP, but the moveset after evolution might be bad. This is why Vaporean's are everywhere. Eevees are easy to find, they take little effort to boost, you can control at least your first evolution to Vaporean, AND Vaporean always gets Water Gun. Water Gun is the 5th highest DPS move in the game. And most of the moves above it aren't even an option to highest evolution Pokemon (i.e. Ghastly and Haunter can learn Lick, but Gengar cannot).
If you are a perfectionist, you need to find perfect IVs and perfect movesets (which could, in all honesty, change). Otherwise, I'd recommend sticking with just "good enough", at least for the level you currently are. It will be rather boring if you don't do any Gym stuff, especially as assaulting gyms is pretty easy with any team of decently leveled CPs. 7/29/2016 10:15:56 AM |

Yeah I wish I had known that info before blowing my one evolve on vaporeon gonna have to hope I come out with another one at some point. Obviously level 40 is a long ways off but knowing now how much dust it takes to max level one kinda throws my strategy off. I had just been evolving my highest cP ones of like pidgeys for power leveling but at least now I am taking a look and only evolving the better ones. Tough call on what to do definitely working on making sure with the common ones I end up with a high IV one with the best moves the more rare ones I dont think you can be too picky on anyways.
I suspect in one of the patches soon you will see Vaporeon and Snorlax and a few others get some sort of nerf to bring them more in balance with all the other ones.

Yeah I started seeing a ton of Eevee evolutions controlling gyms before I got my first evolution, now I see about as many Eevees as Pidgeys when hunting, just Eevees are typically harder to catch. 7/29/2016 10:53:51 AM |
Hiro All American 4673 Posts user info edit post |
I picked up a 96% perfect Eevee at like CP304. (~60%). I evolved it into a Vaporeon, so I'm excited about that! But it's only at CP878 now, so I've got a shit ton of grinding to do to get it maxed out (my other Vaporeon is currently maxed out at CP 1688, but is only 80% perfect).
It's kind of a bitter sweet thing... Just need 205k more stardust and 130 more eevee candies to max out my new Vape.
There's another helpful site that will show you what pokemon are worth searching for. Some pokemon are more effective as attackers only, while others are better at defending Gyms. There's different classes to represent which pokemon are the best for each category (S class, A class, B Class, Etc).
https://rankedboost.com/pokemon-go/tier-list/
I'm still trying to decide what's best to use my gold pika coins for... I'm thinking Incubators since they help progress egg hatching, which gives you star dust, coins, and experience.... I noticed 5km eggs give you 21 candies for that pokemon that hatches. I haven't figured out yet if this increases with 10km eggs or is less for 2km eggs. At Level 20, keep in mind you are only 1% of the way to maxing out your character (200,000 XP total to get to Player level 20, while Player level 40 is a total grind of 20,000,000 XP). i'm debating buying lucky eggs along the way to help progress my player level before hatching eggs with pokemon that I won't be able to afford to maintain as I level up (stardust grind is real )
