Damn. Boba Fett still got it. I doubt it will go into it in any capacity, but it would be great if he at least gave a story on how he escaped from the sarlacc pit and what he's been up to on Tatooine since then.

Also, lol at the recorder rendition of the Mandalorian theme:

I didn't like this most recent episode. The writing was lazy, it felt like they were just killing time to get to the next plot point.

I kind of agree. I mean, I liked seeing Ming-Na Wen again--been missing her without Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.--but I found Boba Fett really out of character!

^Exactly. Like since when did Boba Fett ever have a code of honor? He was never part of the Mandalorian guild, he never committed his life to anything, he was just a bounty hunter with no moral compass. And they teased him as a foreboding figure in the background since the first season. Now we're rooting for him? I'd much rather him be a villain.

Maybe he is gonna double cross Mando and he knew he wouldn't be able to survive that without beskar armor of his own? The empire showed up like 2 mins after Boba Fett so for all we know they told Boba Fett where he was. We all know how expendable stormtroopers are, so Gideon wouldn't care if he took down a whole squad of them if it meant earning Mando's trust. Maybe Gideon knew Mando would come after the kid and may very well get him back, so he hired Boba Fett to take him down/capture him/hand him over at the right time? Ming Na Wen's character was very quick to forgive Mando for pretty much killing her. Mando vs. Boba Fett would be a pretty epic climax to season 2.

Just a thought.

Or maybe he found god after barely surviving the sarlacc.

Yeah, maybe I'm a little premature to say it's out of character. Maybe he'll have an arc that sheds more light on how he's changed. But I honestly don't expect much.

A lot of the way I feel about Boba Fett is influenced by old EU stuff anyway, and that clearly has no bearing on the character anymore.

I'd be willing to wait on that if not for the dark troopers being the cliffhanger of the last episode, sent down for the climax of this one, and do literally nothing. A Gungan could have run by and picked up a defenseless, wiped-out kid. But they sent four Dark Troopers. What?

(And conveniently all three times Mando tried to get him, he couldn't. Same result each time, and he just kept running up and down the mountain instead of putting his jetpack back on, which they made damn sure we noticed he was taking it off for no reason)

Yea I really don't get the hate either. I've thoroughly enjoyed a broader look at the Star Wars universe. I do get tired of the task of the week format, but it seems to work. Hopefully they'll change it up a little next season.

That's a pretty low standard to meet.

I just didn't like that one episode because everyone on the internet was saying it was the best thing ever when I found it boring and lazy. This production team has proven how good the show can be, and with only 8 episodes in a season how can they possibly have time for that much filler. I'd rather the meaningless side-quest episodes than one pretending to be about the primary arc and not doing anything with it.

That episode was fucking awesome.

[SPOILERS] As soon as that X-Wing showed up we all knew who it was but damn. Pleased to see the parallels between the hallway scene vs. dark troopers and the Rogue One scene with Vader going ballistic. I watched the scene a few times and went back to watch the Rogue One scene. They really did a good job of Luke having a similar fighting style but with complete calm and fluidity vs. Vader’s pure rage.

^I didn’t know it was him from the look of the X-Wing. Moreso that after two episodes ago we knew that a jedi would likely be showing up to help Grogu, and this being the season finale, it would likely happen when the crew were in trouble. Initially figured it would be a jedi that survived Ep 3 and that they may be a recurring cast member in the next season. After seeing the lone X-Wing though, I knew there was only one X-Wing pilot in the galaxy that could help them. There were a few other hints too before the reveal like the single gloved hand and the lightsaber hilt/color.

^i have seen and have a decent knowledge of the movies. Ive never watched clone wars or any other cannon tv. Ive read nerd blog io9 for years, especially morning spoilers, so have some slight knowledge of the still cannon greater Star Wars universe, but knowing what jedis (living or dead) could pilot an X wing was never even close to being in my knowledge base

I didn’t mean that jedis wouldn’t be able to pilot an X-Wing. Moreso that Luke is established as having his X-Wing as his regular spaceship.

Also, another bit of foreshadowing that I didn’t realize at first— they had to write off Boba Fett for most of the episode. He is a strong fighter and intimately familiar with imperial tactics. Why would their plan waste his strengths with piloting his ship away when either of the sidekicks or a droid could have done that? Its because it would have made a very awkward scene when Luke showed up.

Mandalorian is set about 5 years after Return of the Jedi. So I'm basically saying what X-Wing pilots did we see in the original trilogy that were Jedi? Luke is about the only one I can think of. The prequels, Clone Wars, etc had plenty of ships, but I don't think we see X-Wings until the original trilogy.

^i am more than willing to accept that as fact, my point is simply that you may have to be a pretty big fan to realize that fact. I, very admittedly am not a Star Wars fanboy, but I am a cinefile + nerd and have a decent genre knowledge. However what types of ships different Jedi piloted never registered in the least for me.

Another thought, what happened with the scientist that they kidnapped? Why was he so willing to give up all that info on the dark troopers and Grogu’s location? He could have not mentioned anything about the dark troopers and Mando & Co. would have gotten slaughtered before Luke showed up.

I took it as him not being a true believer in the cause, in contrast to the pilot from the beginning and the other one from an earlier episode that took his cyanid-like kill capsule. He was just more of a smart pussy trying to stay alive

I mean boba fett is in it. It can't be that much past the original movies. I mean it could, but he'd be an old decrepit dude at that point and unable to fight.

I just need answers on mando being ex-empire with high clearance. How did the face scan recognize him? He used to go around without a mask for his face to be in an empire database?

Mando wasnt ex-empire with clearance, Bill Burr was. Burr had the codes needed to access the terminal. The facial scan DIDNT recognize Mando, that’s why he was the only one able to do that task. The facial scan wasn’t the password, it was a secondary protocol to make sure whoever was accessing the terminal wasn’t wanted.

Also - wish they just recast Luke with that guy. The CGI was painful to see but im sure everyone was in tears so they couldn't tell anyway.

Some idiot ruined it for me on Facebook with a comment like "Luuuuuukeee!, those who know will know" I was Like they thought that wouldn't ruin it. This was Friday too, not even a few days later. I went back to give them a severe tongue lashing but couldn't find the post and couldn't remember who posted it. Hopefully they took it down.

My two boys were watching so I at least got to watch them go through experience. My 5 year old actually called it before they showed him which was cool.

I don't care what critics and naysayers have to say, I thought it was great. Who cares if there was a little uncanny valley in there, it was close enough. And it was great to see Luke in his prime once again rather than a miserly old hermit who gave up on the force.

It's probably too much to ask to see much of this Luke in the future, given the probably cost that goes into the de-aging process, but I'd watch anything with this particular Luke in it.
