So Favors is announcing in Atlanta (obviously) at 6:30, when Duke plays @ Georgia Tech that night. Gee, that sounds promising. I wonder if they'll parade him around the arena after he commits.

I hate to be a pessimist but that doesn't sound good. What schools are on Cousins' top list? Us and who else?

^Of course he's announcing it in ATL no matter who he's going to. It being just before a GT game though does make me think he's going to GT.

And I think us and Memphis are the biggest players for Cousins outside of UAB.

IC Mods are idiots.

Not sure how Memphis has room for more people. They are losing 3, bringing in 4 so far yet reportedly have offers extended to Wall, Cousins, Favors, Stephenson (who i think might head overseas), and 3 more players

Hey gunnz, what are our fallbacks should Cousins and Wall both go elsewhere?

Do we have backups or do we eat the scholly's and try and get at some more talent next year? I really don't want to have marginal-ACC types being picked up because we struck out on the high-major elites...

^^ Tyreke Evans, though he isn't ready, will almost assuredly go pro.

We won't sign another guard in this class if we don't get Wall.

^there's still no room. Evans would have to leave just to make room for the guys coming in. Someone else would have to leave if they wanted Wall, and another for Cousins...

Favors will rue the day he turned down an offer to play for NC STATE
____________________________________________________________________
Nym: here is what i currently know...if we dont land favors, wall or cousins then we are pretty much done on this class unless something like a cousins situation opens up. if not we will only be taking the 3 we have coming in.

The only recruit we have showing on the board left for 2009 is an unrated C Mat Piotrowski. I know nothing about this kid.

Here is what we are looking at for 2010
PG
Ryan Harrow (COMMIT)

SG
Brian Richardson (Wilson, NC)
Mychal Parker (Charlottesville, VA)
Jay Canty (Jamestown, NC - High Point Verbal)

SF
Tashawn Mabry (Rocky Mount, NC)
Reco McCarter (Goldsboro, NC)

PF/C
Melvin Tabb (Raleigh, NC)
CJ Leslie (COMMIT)

Tobias Harris (Long Island, NY)
Luke Cothron (Red Springs, NC)
Kamren Belin (Roswell, GA)

it must suck to be the AD at Georgia Tech... he probably wants to fire Hewitt, but can't now that they (presumably) landed Favors

It's much less likely that a one and done big man will, by himself, make a team go from mediocre to good/great than it would be a for a one and done guard.

That's generally true but that has more to do with the fact that big men take a while to grow into their bodies

^^ That and without a decent guard to get him the ball, a big guy isn't gonna be able to do a whole lot. Doesn't matter how good he is.

you are fooling yourself. If not for the nba rule, hickson wouldn't have even come to college. He was ready to go, he is already a solid contributor on the cavs, and he was a man among boys physically.

Well then he should say that the recruit will regret the day that he chose to play at GT. Whether or not the kid plays at GT, I doubt there are too many recruits who will regret the day they didn't choose to play at NC State...as sad as that is to say.

if favors was a 3 or 4 year player, then maybe hewitt possibly getting fired would have been an issue, but favors is a 1 and done player. If hewitt gets fired in the offseason it won't effect favors much. He will start for GT no matter who the coach is next year, and the game will go through him. He will play his 1 season and be gone.

It'd be great to get him here for 1 year, however, he knows he's done in 1 year, and he wants to play close to home. Let's just hope john wall makes the same decision and picks to run with us next year. (i'm not holding my breath though)

Derrick Favors has reportedly narrowed his list to Georgia, Georgia Tech and N.C. State. His decision will be aired live, less than 30 minutes before Georgia Tech takes on Duke.

Did Favors people get ESPN to televise the announcement?

Answered my own question:

Quote :
"Derrick Favors set to announce Wed. on ESPNU
ESPNU's No. 1 power forward and No. 2 overall prospect Derrick Favors will announce his college decision live on ESPNU's SportsCenterU at 6:30 p.m. EDT. Favors will decide among Georgia, Georgia Tech and N.C. State.

Favors and his South Atlanta squad will take on ESPNU's No. 4 overall prospect DeMarcus Cousins and LeFlore (Mobile, Ala.) Thursday night at 9 p.m. EDT on ESPN2.

So ajc was blatantly putting out false information when they left NC State off their list but included Memphis? That's unprofesisonal!

most of the people down there are pretty pissed about the pipeline we've set up there, and if this paper has printed stuff like this, I can't say I blame them, it's like a raleigh sports source celebrating the fact that all the best Football talent is choosing between NCSU, UNC, and ECU, and then all of a sudden they commit to UGA, Clemson, UF... etc.

Favors should have waited until Saturday when we play GT. that would add to the excitement, now it looks more and more like GT got him. there is always hope though...

i've pretty much all but conceded the fact that wall is gonna pick georgia tech tonight, and as soon as i come to grips with this. someone on packpride posts that the latest news from rivals is that favors is leaning to nc state. now favors himself said only him and his coaches know about his decision, so the rivals article is pure speculation, but wtf... i take this stuff way to seriously, and when i finally come to grips with the fact he is going to GTech, i get sucked back in.

if he doesn't pick us id rather him pick georgia. at least we wouldn't have to play him for 1 year

edited to add that i don't have a rivals account so i cant check, but it appears that the dude was just making stuff up, someone else on the site verified he couldn't find it on rivals. ugh..
