So iPhone on Verizon in January. neato.

V that's what i thought too. Google "iphone verizon january".

Recent press release says differently. I've got Bloomberg at my desk and it popped up on there before most of the internet.

it's a rumor spread by an analyst.

anyone else use the Chrometophone extension a lot? it's pretty handy.

also, any rumors as to when the new Market is coming, from Google I/O I think they said late 2010... can't wait to push apps to phone and browse the app store a little easier, buy music a little easier, sync a little easier...

yeah, chrome-to-phone is nice. I use it to send myself links to file downloads like kernel and theme updates.

And lol. Juice Plotter on the Droid. You can see when the cable and internet went out. Using usb tethering now while the phone charges. Blank spots in the graph are where I guess the browser was using too much resources and caused android to kill off juice plotter.

in 2.2, just open up a note in any of the note taking apps and on the keyboard click on the microphone and speak, then just save the note. it won't record the audio but it will transcribe your voice.

uh... you can do this with the simple microphone icon on the right side of the google search bar on your home screen, just click it and say navigate...

don't have 2.2...but i think it works the same in 2.1 (as long as you don't have swype installed)

I'm not gonna go back to 2007 and dig all that up for you but I'm positive that Engadget and other sites mentioned a five year exclusivity period. Obviously no one knows EXACTLY what the time period was but for sure the five year number was thrown around when the phone was introduced. And here we are, three years later, which is an eternity for carrier exclusivity, and every year someone keeps saying the iPhone is coming to Verizon...

Betcha $5 you won't see it on VZW until 2012.

^^^+1.

The new "incredible, amazing, revolutionary" iPhone feature for the 2012 WWDC will be a phone that actually makes calls (on Verizon).

So the Evo is finally back in stock at Sprint's website & I ordered it yesterday. I want to get a Zagg Invisible Shield, but it has options for "Full Body Maximum Coverage" and "Full Body Easy Install." Any suggestions? The video description seems to try to ham things up rather than actually describe in detail the differences between the two.

^You may look back on previous pages for another suggestion for a case, I think it was phantomskin

I have the Zagg Invisible Sheild and love it because my phone fits in all the accessories without issue. Although it does make the phone feel rubbery (at least it doesn't slip out of my hand). I can tell you this, you shouldn't install the Zagg piece that covers the touchscreen, just buy a regular screen protector for that.

^Why not install the touchscreen part? The orange peel effect of which I've heard?

Would you recommend phantomskin for the screen in that case or another brand--preferably with as good a warranty as Zagg or else just cheap? I always heard Powersupport was good when I had iPhones, but they only make stuff for Apple products.

I have a 50% off code for Zagg, which is part of why I'd just prefer to go with them. Just wasn't sure which of the full body options to take.

^^ ZAGG sucks man is overpriced, annoying to touch, and unnecessary , go with phantomskinz. They have 30% off and it will cost you 17 bucks for 2 full body kits or 7 bucks for 2 touch screen only. If you send them a note you can get 1 gloss and 1 matte. I have matte on the back (looks great and matches the texture perfectly on the Evo) and gloss on the front. They have the stupid color ones you see people using on their BB's and it looks like he just added carbon fiber. Check out the demo videos -- it really is a great protector and one of the cheapest you will find. If you give me an hour to get back from lunch I will find the "2010 screen protector round up" for you on the forums.

Be careful when applying, possibly because of the screen separation issues it's very easy to let water get under the screen. I basically posted a nightmare scenario with mine but I probably went overboard with the solution and of course only let it dry for 3 hours. Once I saw the water I left it alone for 24 hours and by the end of that week everything had evaporated and the device is fine.

http://phantomskinz.com/htcevo4g.aspx
summersale2010 for 30% off

--
I still have a 40% off Zagg code too, but it's not worth it because they still charge you shipping. Phantomskinz is free and of course you get 2 kits in the event you fuck one up. It sounds like I should be earning commission from this vendor, but I'm just that unsatisfied with those "SUPER ELITE MILITARY GRADE DREMEL TOOL PROOF" companies that I feel obligated to share my research. Before Zagg I had Clear Protector which was the same tacky rubber feel and my coworker told me to just grab the static cling ones from ebay. Before doing that I found phantomskinz on ppcgeeks or something and just started reading reviews. Now I'm a customer for life yo.

Ghost Armor is another well received product, but slightly more expensive and it might have a little tacky feel, but I'm not exactly sure. As far as what Prospero said, if you're not just dying to "go naked" [which is probably his intention] I would much rather use a Seidio Innocase and a screen protector than spend 20 dollars and 2 hours installing 4 or 5 quarter inch pieces of rubber. It's all personal preference though.

Here's a ZAGG review/install video so you can see exactly what you're getting.

^^^Thanks a lot, Grandmaster. If you can post that review round up that'd be great. I'm getting a free Zagg from the StudentRate deal, so I can do my own comparison if I get the Phantomskin. Probably will, but need to take a look at the links you posted. Does Phantomskin have a warranty?

I also plan on getting a hard case. From what I've heard, the Seidio (sp?) Innocase ones are good. I'm just getting one of these full skins since my last 2 iPhones still got scratched up despite using good quality cases. I probably didn't take them out and dust them off enough.

EDIT: Looks like the warranty takes ~2 weeks & $3 by mail. So Zagg definitely wins there since as I understand it you can return them to any retailer that carries them (Best Buy etc) for replacement. If that's not true and you can only return to one of their kiosks, then that would suck.

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=121345

Here is the perpetual screen protector thread. I think Clairvue was actually in my head when I said Ghost Armor, but I don't have any hands on experience with either of them. Also, I'm pretty sure that Zagg will charge about the same amount for shipping and handling of the replacement and you even have to return your old skin. Honestly though, I never really considered warranty as a selling point for any vendor when I was shopping around. At least with PS, by the time I pay 3 bucks to their 3rd party claim service I could have just placed a new order for 7 bucks with free shipping. I could not care less what happens to the film as long as my glass screen is flawless after removal. Just read through that thread and pick the product that appeals to you the most, if I were a betting man I would say that ultimately the materials for certain groups are coming from the same place anyway. Zagg/ClearProtector/"Military Grade" and then the slick/smooth feel materials sold by others.

Quote :
"
Is the “free” replacement really free? Do I have to pay anything out of pocket?

Per the invisibleSHIELD Lifetime Replacement Guarantee and the 1 Year Manufacturer Warranty, your replacement invisibleSHIELD, ZAGGaudio product, or ZAGGsparq is absolutely free. Your out of pocket expenses may include:

* Shipping & handling for the replacement product

* Postage for mailing back your old product

* Potential customs/brokerage fees for receiving the replacement product we ship to you (international customers only)

* You will have 60 days to return your old product. If the product is not returned within 60 days, the credit card you provided during the online replacement process will be charged the full retail value of the product that was replaced."

Good luck!

PS: Seidio also sells protectors and really the glass screen can withstand a pretty good beating in the first place. The guy pulled the youtube video down since the report and I don't have time to find a mirror, but IIRC it held up better than you'd think.

Android 3.0 Gingerbread details:

http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/06/30/android-3-0-gingerbread-details-1280x760-resolution-1ghz-minimum-specs-mid-oct-release/

Quote :
"Here we go:
- Android 3.0 Gingerbread will be released in mid- October (around 15 -16th), 2010. First handsets shipping in November/December – for the Holiday Season.
- Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. (We all, of course, heard that Android handsets with 2GHz CPU’s are coming)
- New 1280×760 resolution available for the devices with displays of 4” and higher. (Anyone thinking about Android tablets now? )
- Completely revamped user interface. If you want to get a feeling of what Android 3.0 Gingerbread UX is like, check out the Gallery App on Nexus One. The same overall feel, light animated transitions, etc. Natively, through all the UI.
- Android’s split into 2 branches becomes official. 3.0 for top of the line/high end devices. Cheap, low-end mass market handsets will keep Android 2.1/2.2
- Eldar also confirmed my musings about the death of third party User Interface shells like HTC Sense, MotoBlur, etc;. Android 3.0 basically kills the need for them."

Not like any of this is new, but if true would create more fragmentation of the versions, not sure I approve. Also not sure why minimum specs keep going up, they should be working on making it more efficient and increasing battery life than increasing Ghz. I want to do more with less, not do more with more.
