Update from the lead producer of WoW. Interesting read.
Quote : | "It has been over six months since World of Warcraft launched in North America, and we have seen much growth during that time. Just prior to launching in China last week, World of Warcraft had achieved a subscriber base of more than 2 million players worldwide. Thousands of new players around the world are joining the adventures in Azeroth each day, and the early signs from China are showing that World of Warcraft is proving to be very popular with players there as well.
With this rapid growth, we expanded our operations from 48 realms at launch in the U.S. to over 450 worldwide. The introduction of hundreds of new realms caused some growing pains, and we experienced some stability issues with our realms in the months after launch. During these few months, we were able to significantly improve our code and update our hardware, which increased our performance dramatically. Our realms are now stable, and we are concentrating on providing consistent content patches to our players.
On the customer-service end, we have expanded our 24/7 in-game customer service staff (GMs) in all regions since launch. World of Warcraft now employs more than 550 GMs worldwide. Along with assisting players with in-game problems, these GMs also actively seek out and ban the accounts of people caught cheating, botting, or doing anything else that would negatively impact our customers. We have billing and technical support call centers on all the major continents, who employ phone, Web, and e-mail support for customers. Our community websites are moderated by regional teams of community managers who provide answers to customer questions and give feedback to the development teams so we can better focus our efforts. All of these people are there to improve the quality of the game experience for everyone.
Aside from improving our server stability and customer service, we have also been hard at work delivering great new content updates for the game. Since release, we have had four major updates and nine minor updates. Thanks to our major updates, customers have had the opportunity to experience:
The introduction of the PvP Honor ranking system and many exciting Honor rewards.
Our newly released PvP Battlegrounds. Warsong Gulch, a frenetic 10-vs.-10 “capture the flag”-style Battleground, and Alterac Valley, a 40-vs.-40 epic-scale battle for dominance.
Two new full dungeons (Maraudon and Dire Maul)
New world raid encounters (Azurgos and Lord Kazzak)
World events such as Feast of Winter Veil, the Elemental Invasions on Kalimdor, Children’s Week, the Gurabashi Arena Event, and Noblegarden.
Many improvements to the game’s user interface, such as additional action bars, quest tracking, and buff timers.
Over 200 new quests for all levels.
Over 600 new items, including new professions recipes, epic mounts, and raid sets.
Over 200 new monsters.
12 new flight paths.
Numerous new class abilities and class-balance adjustments.
Improvements to many of the dungeons already in the game, such as Scholomance, Stratholme, and Blackrock Spire.
We are committed to delivering the highest quality online experience for our players. Some of our upcoming plans have already been mentioned on our community site. For example, in our next major update, we will be releasing Blackwing Lair, a 40-person raid dungeon, where you will be able to battle against the epic dragon Nefarian and his minions. We are also working on a 20-person dungeon called Zul’Gurub, and the mysterious lands of Ahn’Qiraj in Silithus. Outside of dungeons, we want to continue adding new world events, such as a carnival that will take place in Mulgore and Elwynn forest.
Of course, on top of all this, each content update will also bring new quests, items, professions recipes, and continued class improvements. Some have asked about an expansion and what it might hold. I wanted to let players know that it is in the works, and we’ll release details as soon as we can.
These are but some of the things you can expect over the coming months. There is still so much to speak of, but I hope I have at least given you all a peek at how World of Warcraft has progressed since launch. I also hope I have given you some insight into the future and our dedication to growing World of Warcraft for years to come. Thanks again for your continued support, and we’ll see you in Azeroth!

i wanna see some axes in legendary and artifact sometime. heh.
also i wanna hear about hero classes blizz. i was hoping theyd have something in that update ^^^
some other stuff i read about that(as Ian pointed out to me) are in development:
Quote : | " Battlemasters: These NPCs offer a new way to enter the battleground queues. Located in some of the cities, right-clicking on a battlemaster will allow your character to enter a battleground queue.
Honor System Improvements:
* There is now a progress bar on the Honor tab of your character window that displays how close a player is to their next rank.
* There is a new "This Week" section of the Honor tab, which will display PvP accomplishments of the current week.
* The "This Session" section of the Honor tab has been changed to "Today", and will now display the entirety of your accomplishments for the day instead of the most recent session. The new Honor Tab
* The WorldDefense and LocalDefense channels will now display your rank as well as your name when chatting.
* Warsong Gulch has new item rewards at the appropriate faction vendor near the entrances to the zone. These are available starting at Honored faction.
* Both the Warsong Outrider Supply Officer and the Silverwing Sentinel Supply Officer of Warsong Gulch now offer distinct tabards for purchase. Those heroes who are of Exalted status with one of these factions may purchase the tabard for 5 gold (discounts not included).
* Players now receive a faction bonus for completing the repeatable Warsong Gulch quests. " |

That update was released in the middle of April.
Im pretty sure i read somewhere that hero classeswill be part of an expansion, not just an update.
^That stuff there are changes that should be in the next big patch. They arent in game currently.

thanks for the heads up. i made the change man.
i cant wait for a few of those changes tho! getting a visual on your honor rank is HUGE..it gives me more interest in it so im not just running around blindly having no idea if im even close to ranking or not.
the improvements to the warrior talent build could benefit me, and being able to get in a queue for BG without making the incovenient flgiht path + walk to warsong will be nice.
the expansions wont be purchased tho am i correct? i know the whole northern continent is planned as an expansion eventually, and maybe hero classes will be implemented then. but these expansions will still be downloaded if im not mistaken.

ah ok. i was reading a thread in the forums awhile back where it seemed most likely the wouldnt be purchased seperately. but yea that makes sense i never thought about it being that huge. sucks tho..you guys think it will be a near full price expansion (ie 40-50 bucks) or what? 6/22/2005 12:07:22 PM |
GKMatt All American 2426 Posts user info edit post |
it will prolly be cheaper (like $29) so that the release of the expansion can potentially drive new sales of the orignal game.
plus they can offer it in a wow battle chest (which im almost positive will happen given blizzard's history) 6/22/2005 12:29:47 PM |

you think they will do a world of starcraft? 6/22/2005 12:34:19 PM |
GKMatt All American 2426 Posts user info edit post |
if they did, it would prolly be a long ways away before they even thought about it.
with over 2mil subscribers they are bringing in like 30mil a month in subscriptions (and there are 1000s of new subscriptions per day added)
plus the revenue from the sale of the game. they wouldnt need to make another mmorpg to compete with the already extremely successful one they have now.
they will prolly finish starcraft ghost for the consoles and maybe even make a diablo 3 before they think about world of starcraft

I highly doubt they'd make a World of Starcraft, simply because that universe doesnt have nearly the history the Warcraft universe does. They did say they they do plan eventually plan to revisit the Starcraft universe, not including Starcraft: Ghost (which needs to fucking hurry up and get out) 6/22/2005 1:00:43 PM |

its all good. its where wcIII: frozen throne was based around..but heres a good map..i didnt even know about the lower smaller continent this map is showing. but here, shows a lot of room for expansions in the game:
and also some things are obviously a little incorrect on here in relation to the final product and it is also based more off the maps of WCIII and WCIII frozen throne..such as razorfen downs being farther north in the barrens..altho that could be another thing that i myself dont know changed in the storyline or what not. but im excited for them to add northrend sometime..altho itll be high level im sure and ill never catch up haha. ive been playing since feb (well 2 whole months off did hurt) and am only 38 with my main and 10 with my alt..i dont get much time to play :-/

Already 43 with my alt warlock. It's crazy how much faster you level with an alt once you have already been through it with a main. Or maybe warlocks just level quickly. I am not sure what to roll next. Thinking maybe working on my pally. She's up to 23 and I have been a DD (hunter) and I have my caster. But now is the time the Blizzard Look YOURSELF MISS TAKE'S.... In the all history of all RPG, what mean warrior?? Well warrior mean master of melle war... no one clas s can be better for melle fight of warriors, it in RPG's: because warriors have more Str, bette armor, and can use the betters melles weapons. If you look in RPG moves, if you never have ready or play another RPG... you will see that i mean... And now question yourself... What mean ROGE?? in RPG... I will reply.. Roge is the class of Stealth... The better class for kill caster's but never able to kill one warrior in normal situations... Because ROGES have a poor armor, and less STR... And Realy Blizzard follow this rules of history of RPG... But intend or not, give for ROGES way to make the GREATS MELLES OF WOW... Never see in another game ROGES so powerfull like WOW... One ROGE can kill one Warrio easy. it is one abashment... When Blizzard give the SAP for ROGES (stun for 45 sec at Hi lvl) and give the Talent PREPARATION( finish the cooldown of all abilits) able the ROGES Stun warrior for 90 Sec, it mean all great armor of warrior 0... WOW is Wold of rogues now... I are Tired wait Blizzard fix warrior's. Look i not say about nerf roges, only give to warrios the realy post of RPG's. One way for exp for fix it is give for warrior one new alibit like Bloodrage , but it for brake Stun, and usable even 45 sec... but it is only one simple exp... I leave my old MMORPG with Blizzard promise the WOW is the better game of even, but i only get traumatic play with Blizzard eyes for warriors, i think better closed eyes... On my server
Priests are in small supply, so are good warriors.
Good warriors being those that know how to taunt and doesn't overpull. You'd be amazed how many 12 year olds get to 60 in wow.
Rogues are pvp class. They are good damage in group but there tons of them.
As for that guys post. I've lost to 2 rogues in all my pvp and both were after a fight, and they stun locked me.
Retal + overpower will decimate a rogue. 10 seconds is all i need to obliterate them. 6/24/2005 9:22:31 AM |
