doubtful, the first gt5 demo looks as good already
achievements - ? do I really care? I don't see how they improve the playing environment at all really, you'd just see more e-peenery and d-bags looking to pad their stats only.

hell at least Steam has the right idea setup. If you do play COD4 on PC i don't know why you don't just use steam. Sound like you'd rather jump through hoops to play games then conform to the norm because its easier and makes more sense. 12/11/2007 12:00:28 PM |

When I get on teamspeak, I can see who in the group of 40 or so guys I regularly play games with is online and what they're playing...or I can hit them up with xfire...shit I've been doing for years.
So seems like Live is an extra cost I have never needed.
Like I said, if you want others to stroke you off on how great live is, go to the 360 thread.
And since, you apparently don't know what the fuck you're talking about, I do have CoD4 thru steam...but it is not integrated into the steam servers listings...you can see who's playing it, but you can't join their game through steam.
And TS>>>>>>>>Vent...Vent's for poor people who can't afford a TS server

steam is, well steam, good and bad things about it, the friends thing is pretty good though.
though with the ps3 network as it is, it wouldn't take much of a leap to have it surpass live very easily, not really sure why sony hasn't pulled the trigger on it yet. 12/11/2007 12:03:24 PM |

^I must be missing something (probably because I only have 1 friend and thats still pending) but as the PS network is setup now....whats so special about it? The LAN stuff is awesome like setting up media servers and stuff...and I do like the Interface for the PS3. Also the PS Store seems really empty. Am i missing something or has stuff been removed? I can't even find the GT HD demo. There also seems to be only 4 themes to download.

Because short of an overhaul, PSN won't come close to surpassing it.

LOLZ. So let's get this straight, Sony is holding off? They got the capability but are holding it til the right time to hit the button? Yeah right dude, PSN is bullshit. Needs a million + 1 improvements and until then, you are off your rocker. I like PS3 for alot of reasons, but you guys trying to say it's up at 360's levels of online implementation are frigging delusional...and I've cited a million + 1 reasons why. That's not one of the consoles' strong suits, sorry but it's not. Not yet.
Lax is having a little fanboy tantrum. Dude, calm the fuck down. No one is fragging your right to be proud of your gaming choices. This shit is coming up in this thread because you made some bullshit comment about achievements being just e-penis. Next time you even look at a score you made whether it's donkey kong or burnout, i suppose just tell yourself you are stroking your e-penis. A gamer score is FUN not some big jerk off about e-penii. Get a clue man

simply add/redo the friends portion to the active list ala steam, add options for forums of various sorts you can access (vocal or text) for the various games and/or demos you have, and then have (attached to the forums bit?) a listing of ongoing games set to broadcast for each game/demo
the rest of the crap about live i couldn't care less about
nah not saying it's better, just could be good/better with some work, which they inexplicably have not done yet
nah, lax isn't having a tantrum by any means, he's just extolling the virtues of how he does things and why he likes them better

Adding 'simply' to a list that fundamentally changes how PSN is setup is a bit misleading no?
You can tell the Xbox360 was designed with live in mind and you can tell the PS3 was designed without PSN. 12/11/2007 12:20:46 PM |

No, it's coming up because Golovko made the following comment
Quote : | "well i'm sure they have the same military ranking in-game. But thats it. It isn't as in-depth as xbox live's multiplayer ranking/achievements" |
I'm simply responding that I don't give a flying fuck about multiplayer ranking and achievements. I've been gaming for 20+ years and it's only in the last 2 that that shit has come into play. It's a fantastic ploy my MS to get people to buy/rent more games and pay for their online service. But I simply don't give a shit. It's not a product differentiator to me - it's extra crap I don't care about.
I most likely would have bought a 360 if MS hadn't fucked it all up and shipped crappy units. I don't like the russian roulette they did with hardware. The PS3 came along and was more stable so I bought it. I may still buy a 360 if enough exclusive titles that interest me come out to warrant the purchase. But considering I just don't play FPS games on consoles for the most part, I don't see that happening. I'd rather take that $400 and get a 8800 GTS.
BTW "fragging your right" could be the gayest thing I've ever heard.

not to beat a dead horse but I will have to disagree with the crappy units statement. Some failed but a lot did not. And guess what? They lasted several years before failing AND got replaced for free. You make it sound as though buying a 360 means it failed before taking out of the box.
so anyway. The media server software i posted about earlier for Mac works very smoothly with the PS3. You don't even have to 'search for media servers'. The minute I installed the server software on the iMac the PS3 found it before I was done configuring the server. Impressive. Most of my music works also...and as expected the tv shows I downloaded from iTunes don't work. And I have a bunch of other video files that are wmv hd or divx/xvid that i'll just have to stream to the xbox 360

^it was enough to put me off until I came to my senses and realized I didn't need 3 gaming consoles on top of my 2 handhelds.
In my mind, and the way a lot of people/media outlets talk about it, it's just a matter of 'when', not 'if'.
I realize it's probably (mostly) fixed now, but it's not something I want to deal with. Much less pay out the ass for the privilege of dealing with it.
^next firmware update should take care of those XviD/DivX files for ya.

so far it brings me back to the days of ut on ps2 and pc...
if you have ever played ut then you know what type of deal it is...
i will say that i tried both controller and m/kb and mouse and kb are way easier and better; however, you can set it so you only play on servers for mixed, only m/kb, or controller so that evens it out
i recommend so far 12/11/2007 6:08:21 PM |

anyone buy the bowling game in the ps3 arcade? Its a sixaxis game so I was wondering if its anything like the Wii sports bowling. In the info panel it says it simulated real bowling but I didn't think sixaxis had that kind of capabilities. Figured it would give you control like FLOW 12/11/2007 9:53:32 PM |

^^^^^ Sick, thanks for the info. That's awesome that you can filter matches for people that are only using controllers, makes me very happy. I am very close to buying this game. 12/11/2007 11:53:29 PM |
FanatiK All American 4248 Posts user info edit post |
for the bowling game, you hold the controller sideways (the 'skinny' part) with your index and pinky on the triggers. You use the triggers to put spin on the ball and swing the controller like you would a bowling ball. It's actually much deeper than Wii Bowling (more degrees of control) and there's some pretty cool random obstacles they throw at you, challenges to complete, etc.
Oh, and it also has custom soundtracks. Which is nice but also makes me worry that Sony is leaving it up to the devs to implement this feature, rather than making it standard across all games. That would be a huge mistake, IMHO. 12/12/2007 10:34:09 AM |
Golovko All American 27023 Posts user info edit post |
so its not like Wii where your hand motion determines spin etc? If you flick your wrist while following through it will put spin on the ball. 12/12/2007 10:35:44 AM |

In the bowling game, you use the triggers to control spin. While it's not as 'intuitive' as Wii bowling, it allows for truer control of the spin. Wii bowling seems like it only has 2-3 different 'degrees' of spin you can put on it. 12/12/2007 1:26:45 PM |
