Meant to say he never recruited any McDAAs. Damn noobs with their internets.

Neither Fire nor Ice were 1st round NBA picks. Point still stands. From what I've seen so far Les was a much better coach that Sid. Sid has done worse with much better talent.

I'm just defending Les. He was a horrible coach. But no former coach should ever be insulted by being compared to Sid.

Ok I just watched a bunch of John Wall highlight vids on youtube and I forgot how sick this kid is. I think it is quite likely that he'll stay close to home. If that's the case we need to discredit Duke as much as possible. Basically call them out for only being interested in Wall now b/c they missed out on Boynton and that if they liked him so much then he should have been their number one choice especially since he's just down the road. Also talk up how much the State fanbase would appreciate Wall in comparison to other schools.

Power forward Tabb earns another offer

Jacey Zembal
TheWolfpacker.com Editor

Junior power forward Melvin Tabb is learning nearly every game on how he can make an impact on both ends of the court.

Sometimes Tabb knows he can take opposing big men off the dribble and draw fouls. Other games, he crashes the offensive boards for rebounds and put-backs. The 6-foot-7 power forward is also active as a shot-blocker and can run the floor well for his size.

Knowing which skill in his arsenal to use during games, especially, when he isn't the focal point of the offense is what he is learning this season for Raleigh Enloe High, which recently played three games in the GlaxoSmithKline Tournament at Raleigh Broughton High.

"Anything that can help the team get the win, I'm down to do," Tabb said. "It's OK not getting the ball. If they are hitting shots, then I won't complain. If they aren't hitting, then that gives me the chance to score on offensive rebounds. I just try to crash the boards hard and get offensive rebounds. Maybe then, they'll see that I'm working and I'll get some more touches."

The three games had three different outcomes for Tabb and Enloe. He didn't start the first game after visiting family for the holidays, though it was pre-approved. Enloe came out flat and was buried by Cary (N.C.) Panther Creek 61-46. Tabb finally came into the game in the second quarter, but never got anything going, finishing with four points on 1 of 4 shooting and one rebound.

"That was our first loss of the season, so everyone was real tough on themselves," said Tabb, who is averaging 15.1 points per game. "We had something to prove."

The second game proved much different with Tabb crashing the offensive boards and getting his game going in other ways when set plays weren't called for him against Apex. Enloe won 48-40 with Tabb scoring 14 points and six rebounds (five offensive) on 5 of 10 shooting. He played most of the second half with three fouls in battling Apex junior star Weston Murphy, who finished with 21 points. He was able to stay in the game and finished with three fouls.

"I figured he [Murphy] would try and get me out," Tabb said. "He would give me some pump fakes, but I tried to stay on my feet and not go for the blocks that I would typically. I just tried to play smart basketball with him."

Tabb played his best game against Toronto Father Henry Carr Catholic, dominating right away in the first quarter, and again to start the second half. He finished with a team-high 18 points on 7 of 8 shooting, and added 11 rebounds, playing about half the game in the 85-69 victory.

"I'm always getting on him about running, but he's a heck of a player, but I'm always trying to get him to do it every single possession, every single second," said Enloe coach Tommy Moore on Tabb's offensive rebounding ability. "I saw him running [in the Apex game], he got a tip in, and he was actually the trailer on the play. He should have been the last man down near the top of the key, but we missed a shot in transition and he tipped it in. You run like that all the time, we'll be OK."

The breakout performance against Henry Carr gave Tabb confidence for the future. He also earned a spot on the all-tournament squad for the Summit Hospitality Group bracket.

"Whoever is having a breakout game, I feel we should just ride them," Tabb said. "If I'm having a breakout game, then I'll take matters in my own hands. I just want to win."

Colleges have closely followed Tabb, and he's had a steady stream of scholarship offers over the last six months. Clemson offered first, and have been joined by Wake Forest, East Carolina, Baylor and recently this week, South Carolina.

Auburn, Boston College, Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia and some others are showing interest this season.

Tabb, whose mother attended NC State, has also been evaluated by the Wolfpack extensively, but hasn't received an offer yet. He watches NCSU when he can on TV, and attended a few games last year.

"Man, that Marquette game was a tough one," Tabb said. "I watched it, and that actually hurt me. I felt I was on the court right there.
That was a good shot by [Marquette's] Dominic James to win it.

"NC State is a different team this year. They have a real good team and have a real good chance in the ACC once everyone picks it up."

Tabb followed up his GSK Tourney with a 17-point effort in a win over Raleigh Broughton on Tuesday, helping the Eagles to improve to 14-1 on the season.

Enloe returns to action at Raleigh Wakefield on Friday.

We need to offer Tabb. It sounds like he's just waiting for us to offer and you know he knows about State since his mother is an alum.

On Tuesday Night Walton and Centennial won. Zo had 19 and 6 and Ryan had 27 and 8. The two of them face off on Friday night at Centennial.

Corch was a second round pick. Monroe was a second round pick. That was the 91 draft.

Googs was the 6th overall pick. That was in the 92 draft.

Kevin Thomspon was a second round pick in in the 93 draft.

They all played on Robinson's team his first year, when he went to the tourney.

The only good that can come out of Favors already announcing is that we can now focus all of our efforts on Cousins. I thought I read that Memphis is full on scholarships and that even if Tyreke Evans left they would need one more person to leave for them to take another player in the 2009 class.

this guy on Pack Pride Premie said that he actually spoke to Cousins not too long ago and Cousins had a lot of positive things to say about us.

from what i know it all depends on the Mike Davis Situation. I can tell you that our staff was attending one of his games earlier this week.

^^I don't think that Memphis has room for Cousins. They could get away with Wall if Evans leaves, but I don't think they can make room for Cousins without doing some shady BS. I think we have a very good shot with Cousins if he can qualify (hasn't taken the SAT/ACT yet) and I think that if Cousins comes, it will help persuade Wall to come here.

I don't think he is....i thought he was actively looking for another job and wouldn't tell Cousins that he'd be there for sure next year...which is why cousins wouldn't sign.

^^Got me

^sounds good too

Just from what I read about cousins wanting to play for Davis. He wanted UAB to give him a written statement saying that davis was going to be there and then he would sign an LOI. They balked and he opened back up recruiting.

We are showing interest in in-state sophomore PF Jackson Simmons. Monte Towe is recruiting him. Wake Forest is also showing interest, in fact he was their to see Wake beat UNC this past Sunday.

I saw Larry Harris and Monte Towe in the stands at the Favors vs. Cousins matchup wearing red. It was kind of quick so I didn't see Lowe, but I thought he was supposed to be there. Harris had a red sweater that had NC STATE across it in large letters and a state hat on. Towe had a red shirt on as well.

Cousins looks pretty good. He can block shots, play the traditional back to the basket way, and has a face up game. What I like best though is even though Cousins is a big guy, he can dribble and handle the ball without dribbling it off his foot like a lot of big men. That proves useful in trying to run an uptempo offense.

I think another coach, perhaps Sidney, is sitting a seat away in red sweater vest with a white dress shirt underneath. They are sitting mid-court front row across from the TV cameras.

That asshat Paul Biancardi left us off the list for Wall, but included Duke.
