It's only in the direction of the lasers. The cone may be bigger than the angle of the lasers, I'm not sure, but it isn't a 360 explosion. At the 7:30 mark of this video some redneck gives a decent explanation on how to use them:

I have a 0.93 and I play objective games 95% of the time, and if you are really going after the objective there i now way you are going to have a high KD, however if all you play is TDM or FFA and you have less than 1.4 you might not be so great since all you have to do is camp for a kill then run and gun and hope to get a kill or two (or more) before you die, rinse and repeat every respawn. You can easily have a 2.0 KD with this method.

Even in an objective game, going for the objective point without being fairly sure most/all nearby enemies are dead is generally bad gameplay.

Yeah it is, but you are never for sure. Like in domination for example, I never run straight to and sit on a flag that has been claimed by the enemy, and I across it and and keep booking it to a safe spot and see has anyone come out or can I see any movement, if not I might try to take the flag. However, even with other teammates with you, you are still vulnerable.

yeah you can wait for the semtex to hit your riot shield, then hit RB to activate the blast shield and you will survive it...maybe not with Danger Close but you'll survive a regular semtex

before the last patch that fixed the 1887's I was in a lobby and two guys were talking and they said "I'll go riot shield you got shotguns" the riot shield guy crouched and the shot gun guy was behind them and they were cleaning house.

I personally think that the fmj attachment should pierce the riot shields becuase with all of the other possible attachments in the game I find myself rarely using it.

I find myself thinking the same thing, and it's not because I think I'm incredible at this game or anything. Maybe I just haven't run into any of you guys who are supposedly super great with the riot shield, but I don't think I've ever had a problem killing someone who was using one of them. I usually just run straight at them guns blazing then maybe eat one shield bash as I knife them in the side. The only time they're a problem is when they're playing moving cover for someone with a gun, which is obviously the best way to use the thing.

I usually keep the shield facing the person coming at me, obviously while ducking to protect my feet...I'll rack up some points, and if my teammates don't kill them, the enemy will usually temporarily be like "fuck this dude" and its at that point where I quickly switch to my machine pistol or shotgun or whatever and kill them

I can use a riot shield and keep a K ratio above 1 easily if I play objective based games. having a riot shield on your back makes setting explosives possible even if you haven't eliminated all of the enemy strongholds.

Whenever someone comes at my with with a riot shield I get out the AA-12, charge straight at them until I'm just a few feet away then start circling them while keeping just far enough away that I can't be hit with the thing, if they start spinning around to keep the shield facing me (90% of the time they don't it's just as simple as move around to their side and shoot them) then I switch the direction that I'm circling......it usually only takes 1-2 seconds of this little dance before I get an opening and pop them with the AA-12, I've never been killed by one

For whatever reason I can't get multiplayer to work on my PS3. Just got the game @ Christmas, played through Campaign, did a few Spec Ops, but when I try to play multiplayer, it just stays at the "online status" screen.


Any ideas?

For TDM or FFA sure. I think the standard should be lower in objective based gametypes. Since if you are afterall working towards the objective you will have a lower k:d then someone just running around trying to scalp kills.

On that note I hate people who just camp or treat objective maps as TDM. Sure for strategy I will camp/snipe in defense of a rally point, or give cover fire for my team trying to get the HQ. All to often i find people making no attempt to accomplishing anything otherthen running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

On that note I wish on the leaderboard you could view K/D for individual game types. Mine would probably be about 1.75 for tdm. I think my overall is 1.24 but i am still coming up the learning curve for building a good gameplay strategy for domination, HQ, and the other objective based games i play.

Too many people jerk off to their K/D ratio.

So many people camp and play objectives just to camp kills its not funny.

Many times objective games are not fun at all because no one goes for the point at all.

In some people's defense, they can win the game or at least turn it around in objective games by camping. I would much rather have a guy on my team that camps and somewhat consistently gets tactical nukes or if they consistently get harriers, pave lows, chopper gunners, ac 130s, etc... My team has been pinned down before and we were losing the entire match so I camped and got a chopper gunner and we came back to win 200-198. Killstreaks can turn a match around in an instant. /rant

I do think that the higher kill streak items promote camping in the game...I liked the first modern warfare because it seemed more difficult. You didn't have newbs running around with dual shotties that could kill you from across the map. To get a 25 killstreak in the first modern warfare you were playing fan-fucking-tastic, but I can get 25 kill streaks in the new one almost every other game.

im sucking a lot in this game. im lvl 45 (as Bitburg_Hammer, on PS3) and i can't shoot for shit. the most fun i have in this game is going with all the running and melee perks and knifing everything that moves. finally got a 10 killstreak tonight. by far the best ive ever done.

^^ Try more accurate/fully automatic guns, like the M4 or Scar. I use Scar with whatever attachment with sleight of hand, stopping power, and steady aim.

I also think the maps on MW1 were way better. Maybe they will re-release a couple of the maps from it in a map pack for MW2...that would actually kickass. Also, why is the Dragnov (sp?) in the campaign but not in the online play? I never really played with it much in MW1, but always thought this was strange.
