didn't know where to put this; grantland article comparing lane kiffin to harrison barnes http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/37177/whats-so-great-about-lane-kiffin
Quote : | "Kiffin is the beneficiary of something like The Peter Principle. To steal the Wikipedia definition, this is "a belief that in an organization where promotion is based on achievement, success, and merit, that organization's members will eventually be promoted beyond their level of ability." That definition isn't precisely accurate, so let me tailor it to the world of sports — when the establishment invests enough energy, hype, and time into a personality, that personality runs a huge risk of being critically overvalued.
For an example, look at Harrison Barnes. Coming out of Ames, Iowa, his recruitment process came with an unprecedented level of publicity, and culminated with a now-infamous Skype session in which he announced that he'd be attending UNC. That kind of buildup is more common now, but it wasn't at the time, and he set himself up as one of the most famous incoming freshmen in NCAA history. So what happened? He was named a 2010 preseason All-American, the first time that honor had ever been bestowed on a freshman. As it turned out, he didn't live up to the honor; not even close. So how did the basketball world respond in 2011? By naming him a 2011 preseason All-American. Again, the promise didn't even approach the reality of the disappointing season that ensued, when several key weaknesses were revealed in his game that would prevent him from ever being truly elite. So what happened? A flurry of articles came out arguing that despite a mediocre college career, Barnes would, for some reason, be a good pro. In June, he was drafted seventh by the Golden State Warriors. The myth of Barnes is alive and well, long after the promise of Barnes has died.
It's almost like the basketball world couldn't reconcile the publicity they'd bestowed on Barnes with the reality that he's just not very good. To draw a political parallel, this was like the U.S. involvement in Vietnam, with the underlying idea that because so much time and money and humanity had been invested, it would be impossible to retreat from the original view. Barnes represents the athletic quagmire, in which an obvious conclusion is obscured by the smoke of our expectations." |

To be fair if the rumor of him stealing during his recruiting trip to Louisville is really the reason they quit recruiting him then that's not a great foundation for success.
He's certainly a more risky recruit than most given some of his character issues and the fact that he's from a notoriously shady hometown. That being said he's worth the risk, we have to absolutely kill recruiting this offseason. 9/18/2012 8:30:39 PM |

Getting a ban for chilidish banter is extreme, but understandable when you're running a business catering to folks with IQ's under 90. I get why IC does this, they're trying to run a successful website and keep customers happy. It's the "this will be over by Friday" stance their moderators took two years ago on the scandal when they knew that was a bold faced lie. They have told bold faced lies about Gio Bernard being "good to go" for two weeks now. The phrase "no comment" or "we're speculating at this point...." are your friend if you're not 100% sure.
There is a multiple page thread on Lance Thomas on their free and premium boards regarding his extra benefits and his eligibility. There is next to nothing on Tami Hansbro compromising her son's eligibility when the UNIVERSITY itself is responsible for the extra benefits that the Chancellor ADMITTED. I get the control of rivalry insults, but the blatant disregard for facts is astounding. 9/18/2012 10:36:04 PM |

Haha. What stuff keeps coming out about State? Rodney Purvis? Not his fault and he's been cleared. CJ Wilson being ineligible? Well, he was punished and serving his suspension. And now this David Amerson thing? From what's been reported, no NCAA rules were broken. The only "rule" broken was Eric Leak apparently violating the dissociation letter from the Athletic Department.
Quote : | "People have told me that lots of their athletes still drive up and hang on Franklin. I told them to be sure and keep their cameras ready.
They said one of them (aggie athletes) accused one of the people in his group of following them around. He told him to call the cops and file a complaint or shut the hell up. The guy started walking away so they followed him all the way back to his car. LOL!" |
So this guy told his friends to follow NC State players around whenever they go to Chapel Hill? lol. And what does he want them to have their cameras ready for? Does he expect handshakes with $100 bills being exchanged? What kind of shady behavior does he expect to snap photos of?

state football players caught red handed with PEDs and drugs--no follow up from N/O just because charges were dropped on a technicality doesnt mean it didnt happen ( and was subsequently made a captain)

Amerson somehow gets eligible during the summer
Purvis gets "held back" ( fails) eighth grade and goes to a scam high school and "graduates" early--yeah was cleared by ncaa but did you look at the high school??
numerous uncr athletes are still in first year college as juniors and seniors
CJ Wilson gets "elgible" with a 3.4 average in 12 (YES TWELVE) hours during summer school--give me a break
there is clustering of athletes in parks and rec at uncr
they have a course for athletes only taught by an AD member that gives out all A's ( yeah you make a phone call to uncr and they say its ok so you drop it)
their "star" quarterback has basically taken nothing but online classes for a year and a half now
Now you have a runner who was disassociated from the school still running/acting as an imtermediary for Amerson and possibly others
I know there is more that I have forgotten and you and the N/O turn a blind eye? And yet you rehash the same UNC stuff each week with a new headline?
help me figure this out?!" |
I don't even know what most of that stuff is in reference to. Amerson becoming eligible? When was he ever ineligible? I have no clue what kind of car CJL drives. And taking online classes is a bad thing? Plus the whole "PED" thing...

Surrounded by rednecks and near some farmland, this little island town is one of the most popular vacation spots for agents, disassociated former football players and agent runners.
For all it gives, Amerson Island doesn't ask for much in return - located near the "City of Oaks" in North Carolina - just a few benefits along the way.
Although it may be frowned upon by most, Amerson Island police chief Toby Yowza says it is not against the law to urinate in public on or around this quaint little hide-away.
In June 2011 the only High School on the island had it's first graduating class - one boy. At Upper Floor High, the student didn't need to send invitations out to his neighbors and friends, they had all heard about it on a web-site.
It really is a great community as long as you wear overalls or a bright orange huntin' jacket. I highly recommend you pay this place a visit and see what it's like to be a true Amersonian.
