i plan on taking at least 1k to vegas in december.

usually when i go to ac, ill take 600-1500, depending on what stakes im playing.

10/20, usually take 1500,
7.5/15 pink chip game, ill take ~1300ish
if you are going with 2/4 limit or 4/8 limit, you could probably get by with like $200 in cash for the 2/4, and about 400 for the 4/8. i mean, thats 50 big bets, and even on a nice downswing you should still have many hours of play with 50 bets in limit.

1/2 nl you can get by with only taking like 500, short buying for like 150 in those games isnt a big deal.

this is just playing stakes.

try and win your food and party money =)

^^ yeah, sun cruz is only 3/6. there is a crowd of regulars that play often. their style of play will drive you crazy. there is one girl who goes there from charlotte to sunday thru tuesday. i can't remember her name, but she's in her late 20s, blond and has braces. and wouldn't you know it, she's a stripper...not an attractive one either. anyhow, i just really wanted to bust that heifer, but i had the shittiest run of cards i've ever experienced in three hour span and wasn't able to do anything about it. i know my limit games isn't stellar, but she raised many times from early position with such odd hands.... J7, Q5, K6...not even suited. i understand that you've got better pot odds on drawing or whatever you call it, but that girl took it to an entire new level.
and she was an obnoxious bitch to top it all off.

we were heads up after a LONG sng... He was SUPER conservative and this was the last hand.. I was calling everything against him and raising random times... I just tried to mix it up a little and the shitty engine on pokerstars helped me out A LOT...

does anyone who plays on pokerstars notice a ton of bad beats.. I've never played anywhere else nearly as many hands as I've played here so I don't know what to compare it to.. Where is a good place to play so cheap 1 table tournys?

So I made my cardinal rule violation three times (well really two, but lets say three for sake of this little experiment) last night.

Ok, lets play a little game here.

its call spot where i f'd up.

3 handed 1/2 nl.

me ~200
villian ~210 had been calling raises with very very questionable holdings, but was hitting hands like crazy. Had actually been way up, but then busted, then back up hard from his rebuy.
dealer ~350

AJo in the sb.
dealer folds.
I raise to $8
BB calls.

flop comes J 6 3, suits unimportant.

i check, bb bets out $15.
I reriase 40 on top to $55.
BB calls.
turn is an 8.
I check,
BB bets out $25.
I reraise all in for ~140 for a raise of $125.

What stands out at you as questionable here?

I really don't see anything wrong with the play. If he drew out on you, so be it, but as far as I'm concerned you bet it well.

Grandmaster ...
you have to sign up the second you step on the boat...i didn't realize that my first time going, so i had to wait for someone to quit the table. we went during a morning cruise and they only had two tables going.
there was only about an hour and a half left of play time (they make you stop 45 minutes before you dock), and i sat down with $200. i had the WORST cards i have ever seen. i didn't play but two hands that weren't in the blind, and i probably folded three or four hands when raised in the blinds. i played probably 10 rounds of the blinds, putting me down 90 when i played my last hand. i called blind and raised on every bet. i ended up winning against three others with 9s full of Ks. the pot was just under $100, so i ended up down about $40, but i drank two liquor drinks each time the cocktail waitress came by, so that almost made up for it. i was tanked.

I'd say check-raising the turn all in on jacks is pretty sketchy, hard to lead out with a bet smaller than 65 bc the pot is so big, but i feel that's better than the check-raise, that at least gives you a chance to make a read if the bb raises your bet

I was confident i was well ahead on the flop, Im glad we agree on my line here.

Quote :
"I'd say check-raising the turn all in on jacks is pretty sketchy"

In retrospect, it was. It also probably would have ended up the same way.

Quote :
"hard to lead out with a bet smaller than 65 bc the pot is so big"

This is why. If im committing half my stack on the flop/turn, then more than likely its getting thrown in on the river. Im only making those bets thinking I'm ahead.

My whole cardinal rule is that its not always right to think people play as i would consider logical. I really messed that up a few times last night, and in three hands blew huge stacks. (really frustrating after busting like 2 stacks and rebuilding back into the black). Making plays on weak players is a dumb move. Esp. after it has happened twice against the same guy.

My whole line here put him on a weaker jack. That was about the only thing I had put him on. When he bet out the turn, a flash in my head came up two pair, but i had just about made up my mind to make this move.

While i was taking a shower this morning, I came up with something. For him to call the checkraise, he has to have a decent holding right? If he has a set, hes going back at me for the rest of my stack there. If he has two pair he'll probably do the same in a three handed game. Of course, this is assuming my line of thinking. I cant automatically assume this however. KJ?

what is the bet on the turn telling me? At the time the 8 looked like a total brick. however, afer a large check-raise leading out with a minimal bet on the 8 seems to have actually improved the hand. Why else would he bet out there unless he put me on somthing like AK trying to spike a free card play? This should have slowed me down.

I think???

anyone else?

He calls the all-in and says two pair. He flips over 6,8o for the turned two pair. So the 8 did improve his hand. I really hate a check-raise play, but this just screamed of a hand in which to take down a big pot.

I mean, am I way off here, or is slowing down with the 8 wayyyyyy to weak/tight?

Remember, in shorthanded hold'em, the most active and aggressive usually wins.

Sorry about having not finished the hand on the previous page, I'll finish that up tonight after dinner.

^ I don't think your play was that bad, you just got outdrawn. As a rule I rarely checkraise twice on one hand without a very good reason, it's like running a flee flicker two plays in a row.

About your only warning sign is the bet on the turn. He knows you check-raised on the flop, so he SHOULD only bet with a good hand on the turn. Granted he's a bad player and might bet hoping you were on a bluff, but it's unlikely unless you've pinned down his betting strategy (or lack thereof). He could easily have been betting a big hand and the $25 turn is simply a value bet. It certainly would fit his betting pattern, since you likely made a hand.

I hate when bad players outdraw me like that b/c it's always tough to make those laydowns (when you had 'em dead to rights on the flop/turn). Eh well, this is why I don't play cash games very often....

Sometimes you just lose a hand. Regardless of whther you play it right and bet it right, sometimes you just plain lose. There's nothing you can do to prevent it. It sucks, but even the best players lose hands. The really sad thing is you lose hands to very poor players because they have no concept of how to play a hand. The hard times come when you lose 3 or 4 big hands in a row that you had no business losing. As a matter of fact, the only really big hands I lose are to bad players, because good players are more predictable.

I say you played the hand like a champ and just ran into a little bad luck. You're a great player and you'll recover.

Sometimes you just lose...

Maybe this will make everyone put things in perspective. Playing 2/5 NL yesterday at the Wynn, I'm being extremely aggressive (I don't play that many NL ring games anymore, so I like to mix it up when I sit down at small stakes). Anyway, I'm dragging like 1/3 of the pots or so, but most are small, so I'm just barely up on my $400 buy in. I get AA utg, and I'd been straddling every time utg, but for some reason I forgot to this hand. So I through out a $10 bet and pretended to straddle... even though everyone knew I had already looked. I was 90% sure I'd get reraised by someone.

Well, this girl (a LV native and very good player, but usually tight) raises to $30. So when it gets to me, I make it $75, hoping she'll think I'm putting a play on her... I know she's not folding for that. So she calls. The flop comes an ugly 89T with two spades, but I know the way I've been playing, I'll get action from her if she has any hand whatsoever. And although that's an ugly flop for AA, heads up, with a big pot already out there, you gotta go with the rockets.

So I bet out $100, which of course she immediately reraises all in (I had about $450 before the hand, and she had me covered). I call, and flip over my AA... she doesn't show yet. A beautiful ace spikes on the turn, and an ugly 6 on the river. She says "straight," and flips over 27 of spades.

The funniest thing is that I can't fault her play one bit at any point in the hand. The reraise was b/c she put me on shit, and she clearly wanted to show the table her 27 after getting me off of my most likely "weak" hand. Then calling my reraise preflop, although the pot and implied odds were questionable there, she knew if she hit big she would get my stack. Then when she hits a flush draw and open ended straight draw on the flop, she's favored against basically everything but a set. She was actually 50.2 to 49.8% over my AA on the flop.

So sometimes it doesn't matter what you do, 27 will beat AA, and I can't even fault the player for it.

does anyone have trouble mixing games? for instance, I am really into PL Oh right now, but people i played with tonight only wanted to play hold'em. I caught myself playing with an omaha frame of mind. Does this happen to other people, it really pisses me off that people don't play omaha as much as holdem, it is such a cooler game

^, yeah my friends are the same way, my old poker group was fine with alternating games but my new group at school favors hold em only, whereas I like playing any game, specifically PL omaha. We did have a fun night the other day, dealers choice, had some crazy completely random games that were played just for fun, blind mans pineapple, have to discard a card without looking. That made for some quality hands.

It appears as if he won the tournament.

GG Jon. Did you win it straight up, or catch a deal?

I dont know if Justin told you or not, but we are comming to LV in December, we should meet up sometime. We are actually staying DT merely for the ridiuclously cheap rates.

Im not concerned about the loss of the hand really, I just wanted some back up on the fact of if I had the right line on the hand. I also was wondering if anyone would have done anything different, and thanks guys for your opinions.
