So I think I'm going to get the Canon XSi, anyone have anything good or bad to say about it, or have another similar camera to recommend?

well there was a bag with a 70-200 f/4L with my name on it friday night... seems as my wife decided to give me plenty of time to get used to it before our trip this fall. I can't wait to start using it

no for an even tougher decision... 50 f/1.4 or 1.4x teleconverter for the 70-200....

also anybody have any suggestions for a monopod?

How much you looking to spend?

I'd probably go with something like a Bogen 681. You can get it as a kit with the 3229 head, which is a quick release head that should be perfect size for your average dslr.

no more than $100... I have looked at the Bogens and they seem to be the most popular out there.

I've been doing some band shooting, I should upload some of those

lighting makes it difficult to get good shots sans flash, but it's a fun challenge

Is this your first dSLR? If so, I'd probably buy the XTi and use the money you save over the XSi to buy a good fast lens. On the other hand, I'm probably upgrading my XT to the XSi over the 40D. This is mostly because I want a very lightweight dSLR to take with me when I'm rock climbing or in the mountains.

Question: How does Wolf Camera justify charging $12.99 for 11x14 prints. When places like Adorama can do them for $3. I've used both for the same picture in matte and they look and feel almost exactly the same. Shipping is $7, but if you get more than a few prints it more than makes up for the shipping cost.

just throwin' that out there.

convenience of being in person I suppose. and they are in the mall and all over the place. Its like how stuff costs more at the convenience store than at the grocery store.

I just got my 55-250is lens and will be out all day tomorrow taking pictures

Apologies for this post -- Im sure it has been answered somewhere but search didnt help out

Im looking to pick up a DSLR on the relative cheap. Ebay has some deals for a Digital Rebel or D40, 1gb card, 18-55 stock lens, basic stuff, etc. They go for around 400-450 depending on whether you get a one year warranty or a bag.

Is this a good route to go? In terms of ebay, camera and price? Feel free to reply or PM, thanks in advance

Do you plan on purchasing more lenses in the future? That's the only thing that bothers me about the d40, you have to buy lens with internal focusing motors.

I know canon has internal motors available. I mean the d40 will only auto focus with lenses that are F mount and have internal motors. The XT that the d40 was compared to will auto focus any EF or EF-S lens.

How do you take such good pics? Do you mess with them before posting them on tdub?

I've been playing with an slr recently knowing NOTHING about taking them except I tend to find cool angles and things pleasing to the eye. Are there logistics? Any advice? Is it really all photoshop?

^ Start paying attention to light and framing (composition). Those two things cover the majority of what makes a photo good.

^The cat picture is nice, the fact that you had the lens wide open blurred the background and put focus on the cat's face. The background in the cat picture doesn't show any sharpness or detract focus from the subject.

The dog however, has a little too much going on in the background.

^go for a d40, you can find the package, with lens for around $400

and lenses will hold their value (as long as they are cared for) for a damn long time...of course you have digital and nondigital lenses so that may make a difference in what you are looking for...but ya know

wow kiwi, nice. that second flower picture is amazing. what surface was it on?

and statefan24, the cat picture is probably "better" as far as "pleasing to the eye" goes, but in terms of interest I like the dog. The framing could use some work and the flash washed it out a little, but you caught a curious expression in his face. I also like the color juxtaposition from a midnight bluish to dog-white or whatever you want to call it. Anyway, for what it's worth, I spent more time looking at the dog than the cat
