How long until you can get an SD card with every game on the VC? 1/30/2007 9:23:41 AM |

the VC games are actually really well protected. I've toyed around with some dumps of VC games, but they are encrypted using your system ID.
so I guess that means you can play the full-fledged titles illegally, but not the $4/pop 20 year old games. go figure. 1/30/2007 9:49:36 AM |

sure it is, but in all honesty the majority of my time spent using this system will be to play wii games, very little on the virtual console. i have a working nes, snes, and n64. no gamecube but i don't feel i'm missing much.

ah, see the last system i bought was a genesis, so i bought more then just a wii, i bought a bunch of systems i only played at friends houses until now.
to be honest, im probably just as excited, if not more, about the VC then the wii itself.

the VC is cool and all, but the prices are pretty out of control. And by pretty I mean insanely. You can pick up a physical copy of the game for cheaper than you can d/l it on the VC. That ain't right.
I do enjoy the fact that this is Gamecube compatible, since I missed out on that system + its (few) really good games (the ones made by nintendo, basically.) 1/30/2007 10:51:41 AM |

should pick up a 360 too, they've got some awesome older titles on it. sonic, contra, pacman, soon to be castlevania:sotn, and the like.1/30/2007 10:58:05 AM |

agreed, but to be honest, im not really a big fan of current video games. i like the wii because its physically interactive and the types of games it has are more what im interested in. i really have no desire to play any 360 or ps3 games, so buying a 360 would be a waste.

4^ I'd disagree with that assessment. When you talk about buying those games insanely cheap, you are talking about buying them used. A lot of old cartridge games that I have bought in the past have required a lot of fiddling to get to work.
These games are brand new and guaranteed to work. You cannot lose these games. NES games for $5 that haven't been at the bottom of some kids locker is a helluva deal.

I just wish they were priced to where I could be bored one day, load up the shop, pick an old NES/Genesis game I'd never tried and say "what the hell" and d/l it. I'm not going to take that risk for a $5/$8 pixelated, stale turd. 1/30/2007 11:07:23 AM |
ElGimpy All American 3111 Posts user info edit post |
I don't think the VC console games are TOO out of control. I mean 5 bucks is definitely a little much for an old NES game, but it's not crazy.
The argument I keep having in my head is whether I'm actually going to play it more than once...and if so, where does it all stop. I could easily name at least 15 or 20 old games that I'd be interested in getting...but that'll probably be around $100. Is it worth $5 just so I can warp to world 3, get Crown F lives, warp to world 8, beat the game, and then not play Super Mario Brothers again for a year? 1/30/2007 11:11:35 AM |
sober46an3 All American 47925 Posts user info edit post |
^^i guess it depends on your perspective. i see it the exact opposite...if im bored one day, id be happy to drop $5-$10 on an old game that i remember playing (or that im curious about). even if i end up hating it, im only out $10 at most. thats a deal in my book.
but the again, i enjoy the "pixelated stale turd" games more then the stuff that is coming out now.

ya I'm with sober.. the last system I got was a 64, and it was lost at a friends somehow heh. these games are great for me
I got mario 1 and ice hockey for nes and I play the shit out fo them if I'm bored, or just wanna dick around without the motion controls. I'd get mario kart if I hadn't bought a 64 for 20$ this christmas solely to play mario kart with my fiance again.
I think the vc is an awesome idea. and I rpboably wont dick with the mod chip much, as a friend of mine said ... who gives a shit if the wii plays dvd's ? the other 15 electronics you've had to buy over the last two years play dvd's as well. 1/30/2007 11:53:54 AM |

I just want to know what kind of shitty ass emulators you people have been using. Playing an emulated game on your pc/xbox/psp/whatever is actually better than the VC in almost every conceivable way. 1/30/2007 12:22:29 PM |

Online multiplayer Support for multiple restore/suspend points/save state Built in game genie codes

besides the ones that jbtilley mentioned(which are probably the big 3) there's also the ability to speed up emulation so you can go through cutscenes and other parts with no interaction. Also the ability to be able to choose from thousands of games (including hacked roms and homebrewed unofficial sequels and edits, which are quite often very fun) and not just the handful of ones nintendo wants you to pick from. And I like the fact that I can run emulators on my PSP for old school gaming on the go, and then transfer the saves to the xbox/pc/ps2 and continue on the big screen.] 1/30/2007 1:18:42 PM |

I love my PSP for that exact reason.
and it can play psx games flawlessly too, now.
great little device. This old-school gaming action is much better suited to quick playing sessions on the go, imho.

yeah, "emulator" wasnt the best choice of words, but i think you know what i was getting at.
but for me, all i want is something basic, reliable, and easy...i dont think it gets much easier then VC. i dont care about anything fancy...i just want to play the games that i used to play when i was a kid.

Another reason I like the VC is because it is very similar to playing on a console. I hate Game Genie crap. Save states were VERY useful, but more often than not I was tempted to abuse them and cheat. I've tried to play an emulated game without the savestates . . . but that damn button is right there.
VC is the closest thing you are going to get to playing the game without the actual console and cartridge. There really is a big difference in atmosphere and satifaction between playing a game on an computer and playing a game on a console. I guess this rule doesn't apply so much to XBox emulator's, but still.
And the multiplayer games like Bomberman are so much better with everyone in the room.
Really, there is only one thing that pisses me off about VC right now. Why did they have to release "SF2: World Champion" before they released "SF2: Turbo" . You know they are gonna release the better one later . 1/30/2007 3:38:13 PM |

i don't really understand why anyone is arguing over emulators on game consoles. if you are buying a wii, xbox360, ps3, psp, whatever just because of its emulation properties, then you're an idiot.
the whole thing is irrelevant.

Honestly just pay like $5-$10 for a usb controller once and you can play thousands of emulator games from multiple different consoles for free on a pc. You don't really even need tv out if your monitor is good/big enough. And nintendo 64 emulators on pc have graphics enhancements, there's nothing like playing Goldeneye with fullscreen antialiasing and high display resolution. 1/30/2007 8:42:17 PM |
