Louis Young recommits to Stanford. From ESPN Insider:
"Touted DB Louis Young recommits to Stanford
Louis Young, a defensive back from Our Lady of Good Counsel (Wheaton, Md.), has re-pledged to Stanford for the Class of 2010.
The 6-foot-0, 190-pound standout had re-opened his recruitment in April.
Young also considered offers from Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Illinois. Among many others were Boston College, UConn, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Syracuse and Virginia." 5/18/2009 9:56:06 AM |

A potential package deal could be Zach Zwinak, Scout's #1 FB, and Robby Havenstein, Scout's #28 OT. Both come from Liganore HS in Frederick, MD, and both have offers from the Pack. Both have major offers and maybe hard to get. Zwinak's father played football at VT and his mother ran track at UNC. Zwinak is 6-2 225 and runs the 40 in 4.5 seconds. Havenstein is a massive 6-7 345.
Zwinak
Quote : | "Zwinak runs and blocks like a bull in a china shop, he destroys whatever is in his path. He hits the hole quick and is very light on his feet for such a big back, he cuts just as well as most small backs. Once he hits the seem he has very good breakaway speed and switches the ball to the outside arm. He is a devastating lead blocker. Would like to see him run a little lower through the the line." |
-Bob Lichtenfels/Scout.com
Quote : | "Zwinak carried the ball 133 times for 1447 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior. On defense he made 53 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, sacked the quarterback five times, had three interceptions and forced three fumbles. He was named Player of the Year by both the Frederick News Post and the Gazette and also earned first-team All-Area, All-Conference and All-State honors at running back. He was named second-team All-Met at running back as well.
He bench presses 330 pounds, hang cleans 360 pounds, squats 535 pounds, has a 34-inch vertical leap and runs a 4.52 short shuttle." |
Quote : | "Head Coach Rick Conner says:
Zach is an outstanding college football prospect. He's big, fast, powerful and he loves the game. Zach started on both sides of the ball the last two years as a running back and linebacker, a tribute to his natural ability. What separates Zach from others is his athletic agility combined with his size and speed. He’s very versatile and can fill many roles. Zach made a great jump in performance from last year to his junior year. He put himself at the top of the list in Maryland and has become a national recruit. He can dominate a game on either offense or defense. Offensively, he can wear you down with his power or he can score on one play with his break-away speed from anywhere on the field. Zach is very familiar with college athletics as both his parents were scholarship athletes. (His mother ran track for North Carolina and his father played nose guard for Virginia Tech.)" |
Havenstein
Quote : | "Havenstein was named first-team All-Conference, All-Area, All-Met and All State as a junior.
He bench presses 320 pounds, squats 460 pounds and hang cleans 320 pounds. He reports a 3.85 core GPA and has been on the Honor Roll since the 9th grade." |
Quote : | "Head Coach Rick Conner says:
“Robby is the most complete linemen I’ve coached in my 23 year career. He has it all, size, power, agility, leadership and intelligence. For a young man in only his third season of football, Rob made all of the blocks. Now as a junior he has become one of the top linemen in Maryland and on the east coast. He’s great on pass protection, a wall when down blocking, gets to the next level at linebacker, and pulls with authority. You name it, Rob can do it. Simply put, Robby is a coach’s dream. We ran for 4000 yards 56 rushing TD’s and most of it behind #70.”" |

So apparently Rijo Walker was told that while he does have an offer, it's conditional on whether we take a CB this year or not. He's one of if not the top CB on our board, and we would take him if he wanted to come. Apparently the coaches were up front and told him when he visited that they liked him, but didn't know if they needed a CB in this class and didn't want him to be settled on their program. Rijo said he appreciated the honesty. He also has offers from South Carolina and ECU. I think he'd be a decent pickup and continue our efforts to start a pipeline into the Tidewater region of Virginia. He attends Bethel HS.
Evan Hailes is another player from the Tidewater region that we have offered. Here's a few of the players from the Tidewater region that we offered last year:
Jerod Askew - Oscar Smith HS - MLB (#6) - Tennessee Mike Privott - Lake Taylor HS - MLB (#35) - Louisville Jontel Evans - Bethel HS - RB (#142) - Virginia Sterling Phifer - Landstown HS - RB (#180) - Boston College Laroy Reynolds - Maury HS - WR (#204) - Virginia James Gayle - Bethel HS - DE - Virginia Tech

He said, "They are my number one school right now. It's close to home and its a good place to be. My mom really liked it went she was up there with me. They were the first school to offer as well. I really like the coaching staff and they make me feel welcomed. I stay in touch with (offensive tackle) Robert Crisp as well."
Hunter added, "Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, and LSU would fill out the rest of my top five." The Gators have not offered but South Carolina, East Carolina, Oregon, Purdue, Wake Forest, Kentucky, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Syracuse have.
The Cary junior also shared what he's looking for, "My degree will be very important. As will the facilities, the school in general, and I will have to talk with my mom about it all. I'm going to make my decision on the day of the last game of my season."" |

Well TE Alex Welch can be taken off of the board. He committed to Notre Dame today. Why do kids continue to go there when it's obvious that they suck. By that I mean coaching wise. They obviously get talent, but the coaching staff is just horrendous, and I unlike most actually want Notre Dame to be good. 5/25/2009 10:25:08 PM |

From Daute Carr
Quote : | "N.C. State: "It's a really nice built campus," Daunte told CardinalReport. "Before I went there, I thought it was an old rundown school, but when I stepped foot on the campus, I was blown away. Also, NC State is very close to home, it's only a couple hours away. They are known for their engineering, and since I want to study biomedical engineering, that's important to me.
I also learned that they share medical disciplines with UNC-Chapel Hill, and if I were to change my course of study to sports medicine, NC State would be very appealing. They have the best of both worlds."" |

old, rundown school? why would anyone that's never been to our campus think that? is it b/c some moron at the Princeton Review said we had an ugly campus? i love our campus especially the Brickyard and the Court of North Carolina. i mean really have you ever been to any of the colleges up North, especially in urban areas? there is no campus to speak of in some cases. they are just some regular buildings that are thrown in with the surrounding buildings of the city. I will say that Harvard has a nice campus, despite it being smack dab in the middle of Cambridge, but BU's campus seemed all over the place, and so did Tufts. 5/29/2009 9:43:37 AM |

Our campus is nowhere near the #7 ugliest in the USA. Heck I could go up to the Boston metro and probably find 7 that are uglier than ours. Centennial Campus is beautiful, and we do have a ton of trees on campus, as well as some nice looking buildings. I like the quirkiness of some of the structures too. It's not all Victorian architecture, which can get boring if it's everywhere. I like the Wolf Ears thing next to the Brickyard, and the off the wall brick formations. I love the Free Expression Tunnel too. I think it's little things like that and the gum wall that give the campus character that can't be found anywhere else.
Some more of the quirkiness that you find on NC State's campus. This is the result of mixing artists and engineers.
Who says we don't have trees. Dunn Ave.

i honestly didnt give a damn about what the campus looked like.
my decision was based on the following (in order)
1) Academics & Facilities (College of Engineering) 2) Athletics (ACC program) 3) $$$ (half the price of Clemson out of state tuition) 4) Music Scene (i play drums & frequent tons of local shows) 5) proximity to home/family (family in Charlotte & Cary)
To be honest, i some weird way, i kinda like the old-rundown dirtiness of Hillsborough Street. it has character.
i love dive bars, and not places like "Top-O" or "La Rez" or whatever bow tie wearing abbreviated bars are in Chapel Hill. There's NHL, a really nice downtown, big time college athletics, awesome science, history and art museums, and so much more to Raleigh that i just love.
Shoot us for having brick...big whoop. I'll take it anyday.
and PS: any patron of the GOAT is a friend of mine.

Yeah fuck all the haters. It's not Pepperdine, but it's not a shithole either.
Seriously, I challenge anyone of these people who say we have an ugly campus to walk up Pullen Road from the Quad to the Courtyard of Carolinas -- or go through the Triad and make a stop in front of Leazar Hall. If anybody still thinks we have an unsightly campus after that, they're either blind or biased as fuck.
I think the improvements to Hillsborough Street will go a LONG way toward making or campus more aesthically pleasing. I think people often think Hillsborough St = the rest of NC State. That's a shame.
