Just watched the Bush-Perot-Clinton townhall debate from 1992. Interesting how almost all the same issues were being discussed (health care, education, international trade, national debt, etc) 10/7/2008 8:18:49 PM |

yeah we have, among a certain percent of the population, the same problems as we had back then
the cool thing about that year is that they actually allowed a 3rd party to participate 10/7/2008 8:26:33 PM |

three reporters that refuse to go on record??? Or is there a reason their names are not included and no references to news articles are linked? But hey, it's the rolling stone magazine. Surely they wouldn't write partisan attack pieces without good evidence.

Quote : | "GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.
McCain's ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago.
The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.
The council's founder, retired Army Maj. Gen. John Singlaub, said McCain became associated with the organization in the early 1980s as McCain was launching his political career in Arizona. Singlaub said McCain was a supporter but not an active member in the group. " |

Does anyone here really think that a Obama presidency combined with a democratic congress is going to pass any kind of middle class tax decrease?
Clinton promised the same thing. He and the democratic majority stuck us with a huge tax increase instead. 10/7/2008 11:24:20 PM |

yea it scientifically shows that the only poll that counts is not until nov
ask tom bradley, douglas wilder, david dinkins, harold washington, jesse jackson, harvy gantt, sylvester turner how scientific these polls are
telephone polling to voters at home is a different ballgame than the actual voting booth. personal biases and predispositions are not polled, and those factors have proven to play a critical role in voting behavior that is impossible to account for
dont underestimate the +/- margin and last minute swings in popularity.
too many factors play into voting behavior and substantial polling errors are far from uncommon to start putting this one in the bag. Considering the only accurate judge in over 2 decades has been the candidate who sells the most Halloween masks has won every time. 10/7/2008 11:27:44 PM |

I'd be concerned about the Bradley effect if there had been any evidence of it in the primaries. Sure, racism definitely cost Obama some delegates, but it was mostly reflected in the poll numbers. If anything Obama outperformed his poll numbers throughout the primaries. He's got something like an 8% cushion in the national polls right now. That's absolutely huge in October.

"U.S. intelligence warns Iraq war could explode again"
"The findings seem to cast doubts on McCain's frequent assertions that the United States is "on a path to victory" in Iraq by underscoring the deep uncertainties of the situation despite the 30,000-strong U.S. troop surge for which he was the leading congressional advocate.
For Obama, the report raises questions about whether he could fulfill his pledge to withdraw most of the remaining 152,000 U.S. troops within 16 months of taking office so that more U.S. forces could be sent to battle the growing Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan."
I've said 'Yes, the surge has seemed to have worked... for now.' If it doesn't create lasting stability, what is the point?
Did it actually accomplish anything? Things like this make me wonder: http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/ucla-study-of-satellite-imagery-62852.aspx?link_page_rss=62852 10/7/2008 11:53:18 PM |

Well that seems to be a key strategy for Obama- to tie McCain with Bush at every opportunity.
But OK, let's forget that and look into the probable future of a Obama/democrat congress. Do you honestly think they will ever pass a tax cut..for anyone?10/8/2008 1:59:10 AM |

Keep in mind that during most of the Clinton era, you had a democrat in the White House and a republican majority in Congress keeping his feet to the fire. That formula seemed to work.
After two years of a democrat majority in Congress, Obama will no longer be able to blame things on Bush. If the economy still sucks, and we're still in Iraq, we may end up with another political environment similar to the Clinton era.10/8/2008 10:43:53 AM |

Even if Sara Palin starts calling Obama the N word and fired up the republican base, no fucking way McCain and Palin win.
McCain still ignored the middle class and lost another debate last night, the gap is only getting wider - and the recent personal attacks are just driving the independents away. It's like that campaign is busy nailing jello to the wall or something 10/8/2008 10:59:36 AM |

when people try to explain why they support obama, it sounds like theyre copying something from a gay man's singles ad
"Obama's strenghts: domestic male who works from home, compassionate to environment and avid gardener, empathetic to the elderly and homeless, keeps the neighborhood clean, volunteers at the animal shelter, strives to keep healthy, enjoys speaking at retirement homes, riding bikes, separating recyclables, and lives everyday to help ensure tomorrow will be just as sunny. seeking hardworking middle class american employer, preferably Caucasian, who doesnt mind donating 60% of their annual income to help me continue to beautify the neighborhood" 10/8/2008 3:18:38 PM |
