It started sleeting on 85 on my drive home from work, by the time I got down to Henderson it had been going for half an hour. Just started up again, my back porch is covered in sleet.

If I have to go into work late tomorrow, I will not feel bad at all. I was the only one that went in on Tuesday >:[

Raleigh probably won't get cold enough, but there is already some ice in CH and might be some in Durham.

that doesn't express anywhere near the anger I feel towards this winter

I feel that if a single person were responsible for this winter, he/she would unequivocally deserve the death penalty

and like, they would have to die cruel and unusual death

if I could have such a person tied up in my apartment, I really think I'd feel few qualms about pounding on their legs/arms with a hammer

this winter has made me understand the attraction of the classic scapegoat (i.e. when your crops die, blame a local woman as a "witch" and burn her in revenge.) I hate this winter so, so much, and it's been very frustrating to have nobody and nothing to blame it on.

I'm pretty sure BridgetSPK is a witch. I saw her dancing naked in the woods with a goat legged man. Clearly this winter was caused by her. Also, she's the reason NC State basketball has been so unwatchable.

Dammit, I like Bridget...I'd be so disappointed if she were really behind this winter.

Still, if it's her doing, then yep, I'm afraid she must burn. In fact, apparently there's a precedent for burning Bridgets

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridget_Cleary

Let's do it.

Pretty bad in downtown Winston-Salem. Just took a peek out the window mid-sleep. Must have gotten some snow/sleet to fall in the last few hours to make that along with freezing rain to finally stick to the roads. Will be interesting to see if county offices actually close twice in one year (only two other times since 2001, other than holidays).

Just went to work over here in Chapel Hill. Just saw some ice on the hood of cars and a little bit in the trees, but that was it. Otherwise its just fucking cold, windy and miserable. Power blinked a couple times this morning and coworkers who live to the west are SOL right now on making it in.

Several coworkers power is out this AM. Guy on north side of CH near 40 has had power out all morning. Boss that lives up that way said his went out about 4 am for a few minutes. Coworkers who live in Graham are totally fucked. Said power has been out for hours and the roads are a sheet of ice and trees are hanging down badly and full of ice. They said they could hear the transformers blowing up around them and thought it sounded like they were being bombed.

I took a few pics, but it's nothing compared to what local news sites are tweeting/retweeting. We had 1/2" of ice but I think it was closer to 3/4 along the I-85 corridor

my wife's parent's house is covered under a blanket of snow/ice... and the roads weren't treated beforehand so they are covered too.

Terrible conditions just south of Danville, VA. I have seen at least 25 trees across the road or been cut back from driving around this afternoon.

didn't it rain first? that just washes all the salt off the road and wastes taxpayer money on salt.

We started out with sleet/rain to sleet/freezing rain between 5-6pm yesterday. Roads seemed fine till 11pm when I went to bed. But between 11-230am, there must have been a burst of sleet/snow and covered the roads here in Winston. Had sleet/freezing rain the rest of the night until morning, when some snow mixed in. It's all rain now and everything is slowly melting.

No power since around 7 am in Jamestown, NC. Had a ridiculous ice/slush storm. Would have been 2 feet if all snow

Sucks that WRAL and the other major news outlets chose to wait til the 11pm news the night before this storm to call it. Didn't give much time for people to prepare. Meanwhile the amateurs like WXRISK and WXSOUTH had been calling this since last week. These TV mets need to get over the fact that they may miss a forecast, which for WRAL is like 3 times a week anyhow.

^^This is why I've kicked around the idea of starting my own Facebook page in the near future. Not trying to go all out and be in your face/obnoxious like WxRisk is, just wanna start small and give my own opinions about what is to happen (and also be open to questions). I have enough meteorology colleagues/friends that can easily chime in to give their opinions as well.

Sometimes I think meteorologists focus way too much on accurately pinning down storm totals, especially during winter storms. In my opinion, I think the timing of the storm and the change over from sleet/snow/freezing rain/rain, etc. is the most important info one can give to the general public.

Been without power here since 345 yesterday morning. We have had several trees fall, one landed on the house. However we don't think it did too much damage. The roads were treated first, but the roads were not really the main problem. The main problem is power outages and trees down. The roads quickly turned to slush yesterday and it was fine getting out and about. Once power comes back on, I can post pictures. However, the weather blog on my Fox eight news has several pictures that are quite impressive.

theres nothing you can do about ice. No way you can prevent it from doing the damage it is going to do. That's why it is so dangerous and such a nuisance. No amount of preparation would have kept the power on for those without it right now.

Exactly. Only way to prepare for an icestorm is forewarning people what to expect.
