Even if we lost to a great team, much less a rival, with a great fan atmosphere, would that make the recruit think that he is the missing piece of the puzzle that this team needs, further motivating him to commit? If it were me, I'd be thinking, "this team may not be in great shape now, but I know I'll play immediately and help out."

lol some dude on the georgia hs forum said zo brown's the best in the state and will be one and done. while i'm sure he has no idea what he's talking about, it was a little bittersweet to read. 1/21/2009 9:13:19 PM |

^ from watching Zo play and talking with people, there is no way he's going to be one and done. His shot is not NBA ready nor is he strong enough just yet.

He may be the best player in the state but he will probably need at least 2 years in college. Plus it sounds like he wants to play with Harrow, which is getting me excited in the pants [no homo].
Great interview with Harrow. That kid is going to be sick with about 20 more pounds on him. 1/21/2009 10:49:44 PM |

I know this has been talked about but didn't feel like going through 56 pages.......but how is Howell suppose to be? I mean he is a 4 star recruit and #19 PF in the nation according to scout.com. I just haven't read too much about him up here a lot of talk about harrow, brown and leslie. 1/21/2009 11:25:42 PM |

^body built for college already. Has good handles for a 6'8 Power Forward. I think his game is like Tracy Smith's, except with more range(think Ben McCauley range). He'll contribute next year just because our # of bigs will be low (Horner, Smith and Costner maybe) 1/21/2009 11:31:25 PM |

I think he's been hurt so thats why there hasnt been that much info on him.
Not quite sure who he plays like but he is a baller though. Maybe someone else can chime in for a comparison

Howell has a good face up game, but can also work it inside. The only remotely negative thing I've heard is that he'll need a little polishing on his footwork on his post moves. He's not bad, but he doesn't have the kind of footwork Ben McCauley had when he got here as a freshman. 1/22/2009 12:04:34 AM |

We could use a true "big man". Howell's listed at 6'7", Smith at 6'8", and Horner at 6'9". And Horner is no "big man". Of course, Trevor Booker is only 6'7", but he has a weight advantage.

Assuming Costner is not coming back next year, we're looking at Tracy and Horner as potentially the only big men down low, so we're gonna need Howell bigtime, especially since Horner doesn't really count. UNLESS Kendall Smith decides he's gonna step up his game and earn a scholarship - he's 6'9 - 225. 1/22/2009 9:59:25 AM |

You were wondering how Howell has been doing this season. I'm pretty sure he only missed one game due to injury (maybe two). Here are his season stats to date that we have been able to track down.

Howell might not be one-and-done straight to the pros, but if Horner starts in front of him he might be one-and-done with NC State. I know if I had to sit on the bench behind someone as worthless Horner then I would transfer... I'm just sayin. 1/22/2009 11:59:09 AM |

none of our '09 recruits (so far) are going to be one-and-dones, regardless if they start or not. I doubt Howell is going to come in expecting to be a starter from the get-go. 1/22/2009 12:21:25 PM |

As far as Richard Howell goes, he was ranked about like CJ leslie...one of the best players in his class during his sophmore year I think...then he got hurt with a pretty bad back injury. They said he may never be the same but he has come back really strong from the injury and has since shot back up the rankings to a top 50 player.
I think the idea is that he's still a good basketball player with a ton of potential since he is healing nicely from his back injury. 1/23/2009 10:49:39 AM |

Scott Wood crossed the 1,000 point mark in his career at Marion as he had 33 points in Marion's victory over Anderson last night.

Star recruit warns others about Europe
Perhaps white sails will one day appear on the horizon behind Brandon Jennings, a flotilla of high school basketball stars trailing him to Europe eager for a payday. But Jennings does not want anyone to get shipwrecked overseas just because he made the trip.
He issued that warning last week from Italy, where he is playing for Lottomatica Virtus Roma, a top professional team. He fears that top high school players may be seduced by visions of instant riches, fame and success in Spain, France, Italy, Greece or some other destination.
"I've gotten paid on time once this year," Jennings said in an e-mail message. "They treat me like I'm a little kid. They don't see me as a man. If you get on a good team, you might not play a lot. Some nights you'll play a lot; some nights you won't play at all. That's just how it is." 1/25/2009 10:28:10 AM |

VERY interesting article on Wall's recruitment. Honestly, while it might be questionably ethical, I have no problem with what Baylor did. They are breaking no rules.
That said, this is a bit different than the Kansas and Arizona State hirings, as both of those guys were pretty decorated high school coaches. This guy was ONLY an AAU coach...
(so far, in Wall's recruitment, both Kansas and Duke have broken NCAA rules and Baylor has made an ethically questionable hiring)
