If you have the game already purchased, I don't understand what the big deal is or what all you are downloading? Are you talking about downloading the patches? You have to have those to be able to watch the current replays.
You can always watch streams online on youtube and such too like Alk has posted below.
Played a few last night with Zags and we were up to top 10 in our masters league. Had a few pretty good long games, one vs. 2 Terran where we ended up fighting over the last available resources and winning. Also had the best timed baneling bust in another game which is always fun when those types of strategies work. 8/11/2011 4:02:47 PM |

The baneling bust was hilarious. We were playing ZZ vs PT, we had played one previously and got demolished by a really abusive hellion/phoenix build so we decided to just try and end it early this time around. I skipped speed and went for a fast 8 blings, titans went for just mass slings. He ran a sling up to scout and it happened to run just under his factory that the guy was swapping with the rax for the reactor. The guy even typed in "What lucky timing" or something as we got the free scout, 5 seconds later the blings poured in and took out the reactor and depot at the same time and it was an insta GG.
The long TT vs ZZ was really fun too - the terrans were dropping all over and killed my gold like 3x. The map we were on had easy 2nd/3rds but past that pretty hard to hold a base. Its the 2v2 map that is split into 3 sections. We were basically fighting for the third base non stop to the point where we had two bases in the main and they had a planetary at the natural.
My macro hasn't slipped too badly considering I haven't played in a while, but I'm going to bed bad soon considering I'm about to start taking 17.5 hours next semester and work full time... yuck. 8/11/2011 4:52:56 PM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
That sucks. Going to have to get some games in before that starts and you have no time at all. Not sure how you can even take that many hours and work full time, and keep our SC2 skills up. I say quit the job, SC2 is way more important than food, or house payments.
Not sure if anyone wants to see replays of the new zerg build I've been using but if so let me know if any zergs need a new style to try vs. toss and terran. It has been working great, nothing super groundbreaking but it is really safe, and strong through the mid and late game. Relies on getting infestors out pretty early so they can build up a lot of energy, getting really fast meele/carapace upgrades, and ultras. Neural parasite always works amazingly well with ling/ultra because your infestors stay alive behind the wall of units unlike when they are with roaches and easy to target. I use to think that ability was worthless and now it is making late game vs. heavy mech or colossi really easy. Something to try if anyone is sick of ling/bling/muta vs. terran and trying to use roach/hydra/corrupter vs. toss. 8/11/2011 5:16:30 PM |
ALkatraz All American 11299 Posts user info edit post |
^I saw this on reddit, if you're neural-ing a thor or colossus, right before the neural runs out, select that unit and type /dance. It will dance for another 1 or 2 seconds without attacking. 8/11/2011 6:05:42 PM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
lol that's pretty funny.
another similar thing you can do is neural vikings, and right before it runs out you can land them and then if the person needs them for anti air they will have to lift them back up which takes time. Works good if you have a brood/ling/infestor type army and not a lot of anti air.
It really is useful but you just have to be able to keep the infestors alive. I wish they were a bit smaller like ghosts or templars so they weren't so easy to target. They are like giant walking turds. 8/11/2011 8:53:34 PM |

It would be sort of weird to organize a meet up at a bar when the event is in town and only costs $25. I'm going to try to go and I'll likely be going alone as well. I've never been to this type of event before, but I figure it can't be too hard to find people to talk to and hang out with considering you're all there to nerd out and watch video games. 8/12/2011 11:24:14 AM |

I just figure the demographic size and cost of attendance are low enough that most of the people in the area interested in watching are probably just going to go to the event. Then Azaka and I played a few zvz 1's, which was good to practice but that matchup really sucks and is such a roll of the dice at times especially on 4 player maps where it is hard to scout early. 8/15/2011 11:23:10 AM |

I've gotten to the point where I almost want to go banelings before ling speed.8/15/2011 2:21:47 PM |
titans78 All American 4038 Posts user info edit post |
At that point though you are really using those banelings purely as defense, and then you might as well just go roach and block your ramp and you'll be pretty much safe against anything that comes early game, lings or baneling. I think you have to get that ling speed as fast as possible even if you go baneling or get into a baneling war because your speed lings can micro the banelings.
The safest thing I've found right now is to go 14 pool/14 gas, and make 6 lings immediately. This will hold off a 10 pool, can barely hold a 7 pool w/ drones, and get you speed pretty quick. I'll then drop a baneling nest once I get 50 more gas and scout. If I see one base no roach warren I keep the baneling. If I see one base roach, or an expansion, I cancel the baneling nest, expand and either drop an evo chamber for +1 meele attack for a speed ling timing, or a roach warren to go into roach infestor. I hate roach infestor though cause my zvz infestor play is terrible.
It just sucks when your like "lings or drones...ok I'll make 8 drones..." then your OL sees 24 speedlings coming to your base and you have no larva and its like ok well fuck thats game. 8/15/2011 3:36:09 PM |

SAN FRANCISCO—One Sunday afternoon last month, a hundred boisterous patrons crowded into Mad Dog in the Fog, a British sports bar here, to watch a live broadcast.
Internet e-sports like Starcraft2 have big-name pro players, announcers who broadcast matches, and millions of fans who'd rather watch the action online or in bars than play themselves. WSJ's Amir Efrati reports.
Half the flat-screen TVs were tuned to a blood-filled match between two Korean competitors, "MC" and "Puma." The crowd erupted in chants of "M-C! M-C!" when the favorite started a comeback.
The pub is known for showing European soccer and other sports, but Puma and MC aren't athletes. They are 20-year-old professional videogame players who were leading computerized armies of humans and aliens in a science-fiction war game called "Starcraft II" from a Los Angeles convention center. The Koreans were fighting over a tournament prize of $50,000.
This summer, "Starcraft II" has become the newest barroom spectator sport. Fans organize so-called Barcraft events, taking over pubs and bistros from Honolulu to Florida and switching big-screen TV sets to Internet broadcasts of professional game matches happening often thousands of miles away.
As they root for their on-screen superstars, "Starcraft" enthusiasts can sow confusion among regular patrons. Longtime Mad Dog customers were taken aback by the young men fist-pumping while digital swarms of an insect-like race called "Zerg" battled the humanoid "Protoss" on the bar's TVs.
"I thought I'd come here for a quiet beer after a crazy day at work," said Michael McMahan, a 59-year-old carpenter who is a 17-year veteran of the bar, over the sound of noisy fans as he sipped on a draught pint.
But for sports-bar owners, "Starcraft" viewers represent a key new source of revenue from a demographic—self-described geeks—they hadn't attracted before.
"It was unbelievable," said Jim Biddle, a manager of Bistro 153 in Beaverton, Ore., which hosted its first Barcraft in July. The 50 gamers in attendance "doubled what I'd normally take in on a normal Sunday night."
For "Starcraft" fans, watching in bars fulfills their desire to share the love of a game that many watched at home alone before. During a Barcraft at San Francisco's Mad Dog in July, Justin Ng, a bespectacled 29-year-old software engineer, often rose to his feet during pivotal clashes of a match. [BARCRAFT-Ahed]
"This feels like the World Cup," he said. "You experience the energy and screams of everyone around you when a player makes an amazing play."
Millions of Internet users already tune in each month on their PCs to watch live "eSports" events featuring big-name stars like MC, who is Jang Min Chul in real life, or replays of recent matches.
In the U.S., fervor for "Starcraft II" is spilling into public view for the first time, as many players now prefer to watch the pros. In mid-July, during the first North American Star League tournament in Los Angeles, 85,000 online viewers watched Puma defeat MC in the live championship match on Twitch.tv, said Emmett Shear, who runs the recently-launched site.
The "Starcraft" franchise is more popular in Korea, where two cable TV stations, MBC Game and Ongamenet, provide dedicated coverage. The cable channels and Web networks broadcast other war games such as "Halo," "Counter-Strike," and "Call of Duty." But "Starcraft II" is often the biggest draw.
The pros, mostly in their teens and 20s, get prize money and endorsements. Professional leagues in the U.S. and Korea and have sprouted since "Starcraft II" launched last year. Pro-match broadcasts often include breathless play-by-play announcers who cover each move like a wrestling match. (A typical commentary: "It's a drone genocide! Flaming drone carcasses all over the place!")
Barcraft goers credit a Seattle bar, Chao Bistro, for launching the Barcraft fad this year. Glen Bowers, a 35-year-old Chao patron and "Starcraft" fan, suggested to owner Hyung Chung that he show professional "Starcraft" matches. Seeing that customers were ignoring Mariners baseball broadcasts on the bar's TVs, Mr. Chung, a videogame fan, OK'ed the experiment.
In mid-May Mr. Bowers configured Chao's five TVs to show Internet feeds and posted an online notice to "Starcraft" devotees. About 150 people showed up two days later. Since then, Mr. Bowers has organized twice-a-week viewings; attendance has averaged between 40 and 50 people, including employees of Amazon.com Inc. and Microsoft Corp., he said.
The trend ended up spreading to more than a dozen Barcrafts across the country, including joints in Raleigh, N.C., and Boston.
The "Starcraft II" game lends itself to sports bars because it "was built from the ground up as a spectator sport," said Bob Colayco, a publicist for the game's publisher, Activision Blizzard Inc. Websites like Twitch.tv helped "Starcraft's" spectator-sport appeal by letting players "stream" live games.
Two University of Washington graduate students recently published a research paper seeking to scientifically pinpoint "Starcraft's" appeal as a spectator sport. The paper posits that "information asymmetry," in which one party has more information than the other, is the "fundamental source of entertainment." Read More
For instance, spectators can see the activities of both players and know when one player is preparing an attack. Such asymmetry leads to "situations that result in suspense," said the paper, including watching one player's "invisible Dark Templar lying in wait for their opponent's vulnerable workers."
The appeal is lost on some patrons. During a Barcraft in July at Public Tenley, a Washington, D.C., sports bar where seat cushions are made from the same leather used in basketballs and footballs, manager Deric Ortiz said he changed one of 26 monitors to a baseball game after a customer pleaded with him to switch the screen near him to show "anything but this videogame."" |

1.4 up on PTR. Some major changes in store... should help zerg out quite a bit vs terran as it makes us even safer early game. Patch notes below.... but before that, I bring to you an epic ZZ vs TT from titans78 and I. Playing on discord, the 2v2 map where you both start on an upper shared main (and 2nds are hard to get, only one nat!). We had just gotten beat pretty easily by a TP team on the same map. It is a rough map for zerg for the most part. We decided to go for an early bling bust which we have been using effectively lately. Except titans78 starts the game off by being AFK the first 20 seconds. Lets just say - it went well. Watch for the epic 2 banelings vs 25 scvs on teal's side.

General Unit vision up ramps has been reduced by 1.
PROTOSS Immortal Attack range increased from 5 to 6.
Mothership Acceleration increased from 0.3 to 1.375. The Mothership’s Cloaking Field no longer cloaks all units instantaneously, but rather adds units to the cloak field over time (maximum of 25 per second). This should alleviate “Mothership Lag” issue when a Mothership comes online.
Stalker Blink research time increased from 110 to 140.
Warp Prism Shields increased from 40 to 100.
TERRAN Barracks Build time increased from 60 to 65.
Hellion Infernal Pre-Igniter damage upgrade decreased from 10 to 5.
