^^^ Why would you agree to be the maid of honor for a wedding you don't really care about?

^ I care about her wedding, just not my own and I don't know much about weddings and how important bridal luncheons are to brides. Also, I told her id be a fail MOH but she insisted and its a bitch move to bot accept.

^^^ its not a bridal shower, its a bridal luncheon and its the day before the wedding and I don't want to drive down there separately. He wouldn't be attending the luncheon. He'll probably be fishing or golfing or doing something else that he hates.

To be honest I have no idea what the difference between a bridal shower and bridal luncheon is

^Yeah, they rented a cottage for the bridal party. I think we just go and eat lunch together, which doesn't sound like a huge deal. I already threw her a bridal shower. meh, maybe ill just ask her. /shrug

Its a 5 hour drive at least, which would be following 10 hours at work plus prep time, which is the bigger issue.

a bridal luncheon is usually thrown/hosted by the bride herself or a close family member of the bride and it is in honor of the bridesmaids and is for them. this is usually when the bride gives her gift to the bride as well if they've decided not to during the rehearsal dinner.

while it coincides with the weekend of the wedding, since the luncheon is for you (technically) you should try to go...but if you absolutely cannot b/c of scheduling and work, it won't be the end of the world.

but the lunch is not for the bride...it's for you.

Question for you all:

If your grandma and aunts are throwing you a bridal luncheon, should you get them a thank-you gift? I thought about giving them a thank you card and an IOU for a bottle of wine from Italy (from our honeymoon), but this really adds up. Any other ideas? Or am I not really obligated to do anything? It's not like I asked for them to plan one, but I really do appreciate it.

Yes, it's proper etiquette to get them a small gift. My bridesmaids are throwing me a shower. I'm going to get a small gift set from Lush and include a thank you note that says, "Hope your next shower is as great as mine!" Dorky but in my price range

some more odd but curious questions

1. what do photographers and DJs do during the dinner? one photographer said obviously they don't take pictures of people eating

2. do I need to invite the minister and musicians to the dinner too and pay for them?

3. do photographers stay through until the whole dinner/reception/dance/evening is over? one photographer i talked to said he usually does not, and thus why he recommends ppl have the dancing and cake cutting BEFORE dinner

I found that odd, but maybe it's not?

Most photographers I talked with require a meal in their contract. Some people give them the same meal as their guests, other people have the caterer make them a sandwich or something. Same with most DJs I talked with.

You don't need to invite musicians unless you want to. Minister depends on if it's YOUR minister or just some guy you hired for the ceremony.

Three depends on the photographer. Some leave early, some will stay until the exit (if you have one). That's something you need to ask the photographers and read over their contracts before signing.

I actually had two photographers tell me that, which got them axed. Usually it was something like, "your contract time is for five hours so do that stuff first because we won't stay late if you don't get to it in time." I understand where they're coming from but since I want getting ready photos as well no way would that sort of arrangement work for my needs.

i was like, let the other person have it. GOOD LUCK shady guy

its possible though.... how far away is your date?

when cody and i were booking the venue (almost a year and half in advance..like 1 yr 4 months) the owner was telling us that there was a lot of interest in that month and we may wanna book asap.

i loled in my head, but ill be damned if the dates around us weren't already booked (they update it on their facebook) and found out through a friend who works there that two couples came in wanting our date shortly after we had booked!

Yeah we got lucky with our pictures - we actually went out two days. The first day as we were driving out to durham the snow starting coming down but we decided to go through with it, and I think we got some pictures that came out good (and some that came out bad because we were frozen). We couldn't stay for very long though since it was so cold, so we went back the following week to get a few more. That second week it actually started snowing again, but not very much.

Joie - Sunday June 12 this year. I think so far only 2 out of 50 photographers have said they weren't available on that date. I've narrowed down the field of 50 to 15. Will narrow down to hopefully 5, then meet in person, and decide!

Crazy!

Lol that's funny it was that guy. I also had some shady conversations with him when I was first looking around. I'm sure he's a good photographer but when I talked with him he seemed very inflexible and not forthcoming with how he works things.

i went to mulberry silks today, it was AWESOME.

i got some lace trim. some sequin-y trim, and a really cool rhintestone string thing.
and like 12 buttons (im going to a very haphazard look )

the appliques were pretty but none really caught my eye....

and i dont even know if we'll end up using all the stuff , but it'll be cool....if not im gonna just let them keep it , kat could probably use it in her other dresses.

thanks wolfpackgrrr for the suggestion

Michael moss is our photographer. He is Booked up. We scheduled him over 1.5 years in advance and actually changed our date because he got booked during the original date.
He has suggested we do things like take some pics of us before the wedding, but they were just suggestions. We said no and he had no rifs about it! All in all, great photographer who takes pride in his work and doesn't skimp on anything.

^^Yeah that place rocks. Back when I was thinking of making my dress that was the first place I looked for supplies.

^ Like I said I'm sure he's great, but the tone our conversations went when I initially contacted him left a bad taste in my mouth. Possible I caught him at a bad time or something.

I"m starting to panic a little bit. I've already had about half the DJs I emailed say they are already booked for our date (May 19th next year). All of them said it's a very demanded day.

I'm kicking myself for not booking alllll the vendors like 6 months ago. And we're also wondering if the DJ is something we need to spend more money than expected on... :\

^i wouldn't think so.

think of it this way-how many weddings have you been to where you walked out talking about how good or how bad the DJ was?

you could even do it yourself via ipod (i have some friends who did that) and it would still be rockin!

I am getting married in Aruba on 9/10 this year...planning is mostly done. just little things now to iron out.

Planning is only as difficult as you make it. Did I correctly read above that someone had narrowed their potential photographers from 50 to 15? JEEZ.

if i told you whats been going on with our planning you would probably flip out ahahah but in the end im happy the way its coming together, and cody is too, although a LOT of people look at us and think "no way"

that being said i ordered the girls gifts today!
i originally wasn;t gonna get them one b/c we're buying them two dresses of their choice, a pair of boots, (maybe a pair of heels depending on if they can't find any of their own to match the dinner dress) and paying for their hair/makeup...but i wanted to surprise them

i'm getting them spider brooches we can all wear!

i just ordered this one:

and i got another one today from the fairgrounds
and i got my from the fairgrounds too

i think they look pretty cool

I've been to a ton of weddings where I've been disappointed in the music. Usually it's a regular wedding band that plays all the cliche wedding songs. Every now and then it's a shitty DJ who just spins the cliche wedding song. I'm rarely satisfied with the music at a wedding. I did go to a wedding in New Jersey that had DJ's from Long Island that were amazing.

The ONLY part I care about at my wedding is music (well..food and drink are also important, but I trust the lady with that along with the other things). I'm not even engaged and I know exactly what I want to do with the music.
