It's pretty sad that Holtz seems to be against some of the time even though he coached here.

Maybe he's so old he forgot that this was his first big job.

Some of the "Herbies" are OK but his ranking of dual threat QBs is a fucking joke, he put Jake Locker and Robert Griffin on there yet left Russell Wilson off.

Willie Young with some real smack talk

Quote :
"Young: Spurrier's calls aren't the key

Submitted by kentysiac on 08/31/2009 - 13:25

After a preseason of guarded comments from N.C. State players and coaches, senior defensive end Willie Young provided some explosive bulletin board material for South Carolina, which visits the Wolfpack in Thursday's 7:03 p.m. season opener.

During a meeting with reporters on campus Monday afternoon, Young was asked if Gamecocks coach Steve Spurrier - who's renowned as one of the most innovative minds in college football - is an offensive genius and whether the way he commands his offense is impressive.

"No," Young said. "No. I think you can be as sophisticated as you want to. Coach (Dana) Bible (N.C. State's offensive coordinator) can be sophisticated. But if you can beat somebody with basic plays, then you can whip them. It all comes down to their individuals against our individuals. And if you have a better individual, that individual can shake and bake, probably, and break the other individual down and make a play. That's just generally speaking.

"He (Spurrier) knows his offense. Don't get me wrong. No doubt. No doubt whatsoever. And I think he's confident. But it's going to come down to individual play."

Young also was asked whether South Carolina quarterback Stephen Garcia's ability to get out of the pocket and run will change anything about the way Young rushes the passer.

"Until he hurts us, I'm not worried about him," Young said. "It's as simple as that. Until he starts to hurt us, he can stand back there and juke and jive all he wants to. But until he hurts us, he has no effect on my pass rush or anything I intend to do.

". . .He's not getting around (defensive end) Shea McKeen over there. And he's definitely not turning anything up the middle between (tackles Leroy) Burgess and (Alan-Michael) Cash. You can take it to the bank."

Finally, Young was asked about Gamecocks tight end Weslye Saunders' comments last week. Saunders said he was going to ask Spurrier for permission to get a 15-yard penalty for extra celebration after scoring a touchdown against the Wolfpack.

"He just talked himself into the biggest MA (missed assignment) possible," Young said. "I'll just put it like that. That leads to nothing but mistakes. I think he's trying to draw attention to himself, if what he's trying to do. Becaus I know, me and my goons, we ain't seeing it."

i'm excited and all, but the closer it gets, the more stressed i get...

i'm coaching my high school's cross country team, and we have a meet thursday at 5 o'clock. in oxford- an hour north of raleigh. luckily it's a home meet, so i have some control over it. the plan is to get it over with by 5:45 and then zoom to raleigh in time for kickoff. and i'm hoping everyone else will get there early enough as to not cause too much traffic which would make me late!

i'm already pissed i'll miss tailgating. i better not miss the kickoff.

here is a recap of the TOB that was on tonight

taken from packpride poster PackMentality87

Quote :
"
- 7:03 Kickoff / ESPN.

- Weather looks great for the game.

- Players are ready to hit someone else.

- SC's offensive staff is different......we might see a few things we don't expect.....
want to prevent the big plays.

- Tony and TOB talk about Drew Whimsett (?sp) and the flag that will be carried in.
Part of Drew's letter to the team was read on the TV show, but a good share of it
was saved exclusively for the team.

- Baker feels like he is now "a better RB" than before due to studying our offense
inside and out. He was originally told one week after the injury that he would never play football again. He had a cartilage transplant (his own), it grew too
much, they had to shave it down.........now he's good.

- Eugene and Baker will share the load.......TOB wants to keep each one fresh for the 4th quarter. Underwood (being the 3rd RB) will probably not play that much, unless someone is hurt.........or the game's out of reach).

- TOB feels very badly for Andre Brown (Giants) and his achille's injury.

- RJ Mattes audio: very excited to be starting at Guard. His dad played DL at UVA
when TOB was UVA's OL coach. His dad then played on offense in the NFL. TOB is
very impressed with his maturity for a RS freshman. He beat out a RS Senior.

- Dowdy is redshirting (unless major injuries).

- CJ Wilson (RS freshman) is most improved player from last year (from scout team).
He went out and won the job. But he's young.........

- TOB talks about NC State being on the cutting edge of technology........ "If you
want a job after college, this is the place to be." Hmmmm.....a subtle jab at a
certain nearby university?

- Jeff Ruiz wins punting job. Jeff was a little more consistent than Ward (true fresh-
man).

- Bill Cowher holds the record for most tackles in a season (195).

- Owen Spencer holds the record for most yards/catch (average) - all-time at State.

- TOB has Bill Cowher come talk to the team before one game each year.

- No major rule changes this year. But helmet-to-helmet contact is going to be
closely watched and game suspensions may come from the ACC office. An
example would be a DB/safety blasting a WR coming over the middle. TOB feels
the celebration penalty has not been consistently enforced the the ACC and he
hopes it will be this year.

- No live wolves (yes, it was asked......LOL). TOB says the field is great and will be
cut short since we are FAST.

- We will not have the State Logo on the center of the field......the red paint "cloggs" the drainage (yes, really). Logos will be on each of the 40's.

- TOB watched the SD/Atlanta game with Rivers and Ryan. He plans on giving Ryan
a hard time about being the best-looking QB in the NFL per some poll of women?

- Our coaching staff has looked into the background of the new SC coaches (for
example, the new RB coach was at Illinois, so they looked at Illinois tapes).

- Garcia.......TOB hopes to "confuse" him with different looks.

"

sounds like it will be painted red

COTDAMN Sept 3rd cant get here soon enough

I found an article to get u even more psyched up...even though its a blogging site I agree with many points in the post: GO PACK!

"The Wolfpack Will Prevail in ACC, SEC Showdown vs. South Carolina

by ACC SEC Blog (Columnist) Written on August 31, 2009
ACC SEC Blog

NC State vs South Carolina
Thursday, Sept. 3 - Raleigh, N.C.
Line: NCST -4

The college football season kicks off with an ACC vs. SEC matchup at Carter-Finley Stadium as the Wolfpack of NC State look for redemption against the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Last season, South Carolina thumped the Wolfpack 34-0 in Columbia aided by 171 yards on the ground, their highest total against an FBS opponent all year.

NC State Offense vs. South Carolina Defense

NC State returns ACC Freshman of the year Russell Wilson at QB.

Wilson was knocked out of the game last year when the Wolfpack were still in contention. His pinpoint accuracy is very unusual for a young player, and he has wheels to make plays with his feet.

But expect the sophomore to stay in the pocket more this year because those hits he took on the run contributed to his numerous injuries last year. Redshirt freshman Mike Glennon is backing up Wilson this year and drew rave reviews in the spring.

The Wolfpack return the core of their offensive line that improved as the year went on. With continued improvement, this unit could be one of the best in the ACC.

Last year, NC State was breaking in several lineman that had been switched over from the defensive side of the ball. In their last six regular season games, State ran the ball for 149 yards or more in each game.

Wilson's top targets look to be receivers Owen Spencer and Jarvis Williams who combined for over 1,000 yards last season.

But I'm guessing State's main mode of transportation in this game will be on the ground with Toney Baker and Jamelle Eugene. Baker is coming off a two-year absence, but has shown explosiveness in his 12 career starts.

Looking to stop the Wolfpack is a South Carolina defense that smothered NC State in the opener last year allowing just 138 total yards. Coming off the edge will be two really good pass rushers in Eric Norwood and Cliff Matthews.

The Gamecocks allowed 133 yards per game on the ground last season which was about middle of the pack for the SEC, but they allowed an average of 237 over their final three.

South Carolina's secondary is replacing 100 career starts. The back four will need the front four to put some pressure on NC State's QBs.

South Carolina Offense vs. NC State Defense

Stephen Garcia is the starting QB for South Carolina, but you never know how short Steve Spurrier's hook is.

The highly touted prospect has yet to deliver on a consistent basis, but Gamecocks fans are hopeful a quiet off-season means the sophomore is focused and ready to go.

South Carolina has a new offensive line coach this year and needs to improve on their rush offense which gained under 100 yards per game last season. It is a bit of a misnomer that Steve Spurrier does not like to run the ball, he just hasn't had the horses to do it recently.

Expect Brian Maddox, Kenny Miles, Jarvis Miles, and Bryce Sherman to see action at running back replacing Mike Davis. The Gamecocks are replacing their top two receivers from last year.

Defensively, the Wolfpack return the core of their front seven, but did lose star LB Nate Irving for the season. Last year, State went from over 180 yards per game allowed on the ground to 140.

The Gamecocks are more apt to throw than run, so it will be important for State to get pressure on the QB. State finished last in the ACC in pass defense allowing nearly 250 yards per game through the air.

If South Carolina gets their running game going, it would really help their passing game.

Coaching...

I think Tom O'Brien is one of the underrated coaches in the ACC.

He has consistently been able to deliver results above where his recruiting classes are ranked. His trademark is solid play on the offensive and defensive lines, and sound decision making leading to minimal turnovers. In other words, his teams are not going to beat themselves. Also, O'Brien has kept his staff intact since arriving in Raleigh.

Spurrier is known to be a very strong tactician when he has time to prepare.

South Carolina has won all four openers under Spurrier by at least nine points. If the Gamecocks execute his game plan, then they have a very good chance to pull off the upset. Six new assistant coaches are in their first year so it will be interesting to see how the alignments and substitution patters work on both sides of the ball.

Prediction...

I expect State to try and establish the run early with Toney Baker and Jamelle Eugene. O'Brien has said Glennon will play in this game so it will be interesting to see how he manages his playing time.

I see South Carolina blitzing a lot to get Wilson out of the pocket and to pressure the less athletic Glennon. Also, with new starters in the secondary, the Gamecocks will want their defensive backs in coverage as short as possible.

When South Carolina has the ball, I expect them to try and establish the run game early. But if it does not work, then Spurrier will go to the air vertically.

The one thing that could get Garcia pulled is turnovers. If the Gamecocks get the running game going, then they could really put the NC State defense on their heels.

I think South Carolina has some match up advantages and will make this one very close on the road. But I don't think its enough to overcome a much improved NC State team from a year ago.
