lol, some tool from BA sent me a BM telling me that I should be respectful and change my avatar. His avatar and my avatar are very similar, but distinguishable. I've also been a member for a lot longer and am more active on the boards.

i'm not even going to give him the courtesy of a reply, but i'm tempted just to send back "lol, ok".

I've been wanting to try this beer for a long time but either kept forgetting about it or it's not on the shelves when I go in. But picked up a growler and a mini-growler today and found this bottle on display.

Anyways....holy desert beer! Was going to eat some ice cream with this tonight, but definitely unnecessary. Sweet caramel/toffee all over the place. Thought it was too much on the first couple sips...but now I'm getting use to it and highly enjoying it. I love deserts and I love stouts...so this is definitely in my ball-park...although it seems to be more desert than stout.

Will be my go-to desert beer from here on out.

someone brought my girlfriend another bottle of Frangelic Mountain Brown. usually I would be ecstatic for more Founders beer, but this one was a complete "meh" for me. Coffee usually doesn't age well, but this is artificial hazelnut, so I may stick it away for a few months and see how it does.

and my Red Oak resupply came in. I'm not a huge fan of Red Oak Brewery and some of their practices when it comes to off-premise accounts and what they make some of these small business owners go through, but I will take a free case of Red Oak bottles every couple weeks, thank you.

I love the Choklat as well, but I think the Brulee Stout was much sweeter and much more of a desert beer. Southern Tier definitely knows how to make a good stout.

I'm running a Starr Hill tasting at Tyler's Bottle Shop tomorrow, plus buy a pint of our Dark Starr Dry Irish Stout and keep the glass.
I'll also be working our booth at the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ fest next weekend.
Come out and see me.

On Tuesday I took (2) 1-hour breaks to go get beer. Went to 4 different stores to pick up my 1-bottle of Oud Floris at each. Probably taking off an hour early today to go taste beer at one of those stores and pick up some Firestone DDBA & Pliny

When I'm broke and homeless my sign will most definitely read, "will work for craft beer."

ended up with 1 boxer's, 1 drinkin', and no flanders fred. followed a friend to the store, we bought the last two boxer's.

more boxer's to be released at different location today. probably wont make the drive up for it. i think there's going to be a shitton of drinkin in the sunbelt just hanging around.

The Creme Brulee stout is a great dessert beer, but I don't know if i'd enjoy the whole 22oz bottle by myself. half of that is the perfect amount.

found out my gf went through my "cellar" and gave away three of my beers last week and never told me.

one of her best friends (a guy) who is trying to get into craft beer (outside of grocery store selections)

she gave away a Uinta Birthday Suit, Smuttynose Really Old Brown Dog, and Westbrook Gose.

I was pretty mad about the Gose because it's so rare and popular now, so she texted him asking if he'd drank it yet and get this he said "yeah, it was too sour so i poured the rest out"

i was close to raging, even more than I already had.

besides the obvious point, that's kind of a weird selection to give to getting someone into craft beers.

btw, my wife HATED the westbrook gose. i loved it. she said "it smells like an old mans feet that were soaked in three week old piss".

i have no idea where she came up with that, but i lol'd and was happy to keep the bottle to myself.

me and my wallet are happy that she hasn't fallen into the sour addiction that i have.

she even hated the random cantillon i happened upon and russian river sours.

found a couple of 2011 saison bretts yesterday too.

yeah, they weren't in boxes like some of my others so i guess she just went through what she could see and her other reason being "ones i knew i could easily replace". Birthday Suit i wasn't impressed with upon release, but a few friends said the bottles really perked up with a few months on them so I had recently picked up another one. and Really Old Brown Dog, well I have a boner for almost anything Smuttynose. hopefully i can still find a few of those.

Picked up 2 of these and a glass, pretty expensive week with Lost Abbey Angel's Share Bourbon and Avery Oud Floris hitting all in the same week.

Sierra Nevada Beer Camp looks like it might be <2 weeks away as well.

impulse buy at the store a while ago, either there was something wrong with my bottle or this shit was terrible. ok reviews too, makes me wonder.

i almost never do it, but it was a drain pour. i don't like my drains enough to give them beer, but goddamn.

didn't get a chance to swing by the beer store in West Virginia to look for the local bottles, but I had a few Mountain State Brewery drafts at the pub after a full day outdoors. The Almost Heaven Amber had some great caramel flavors and was really refreshing.

I'm glad I took a case of Red Oak because the only other option out at our cabins was Coors Light

I went to a french/Canadian specialty shop and picked up a number of bottles.

this is my favorite label:

i only got one bottle of this, but it's offered in a 6er. I have to make sure it's good first.

I haven't tried anything by this brewery yet, but ratebeer gives virtually everything they make a 90-100 score. This is a 10% IPA with simcoe, amarillo and saaz. Should be delish and I'm impatient to crack it open, but I have to wait til someone who likes beer comes over to open this giant winebottle.

I'd vote for something wrong with your bottle. I had a bottle of the same last year and, while it didn't blow me away, I found it to be decent to good.

Laughing Dog is one of those breweries i've just always passed over for no real reason. Them, Flying Fish, and Diamond Knot are three right off the top of my head that I see and pass right over.

Beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer, beer and more beer.

Just got my tickets for GABF for Friday night session and Sat. members-only session. gs7 is flying out for it, should be grand, always is.

Great list, even more breweries this year! (566!)

awesome, love the color. really trying to get my hands on RR goodies sometime soon.

what is in your decanter?

i picked up a few random things yesterday. nothing special. It's been awhile since I drank any Trappists beers so i picked up Rochefort 6, 8, 10 and plan to do a side by side tasting with those soon. Then i'll move on through the others. Kinda got the idea in my head after doing a full St. Bernardus (not true Trappist, i know) flight on Belgian Independence Day.

little did the wife know than when i put the red wine decanter on the registry, i had zero intention of ever using it for wine

if left long enough, probably an adverse effect actually. (not usually a problem due to speed at which i go through the decanter).

but i go through more bourbon than anything, and like to keep it handy.

plan to get a wet bar eventually, and get rid of the second dining table in the "breakfast nook" area. or put it in the dining room, who knows yet.

our liquor and wine/old fashioned/tulip glasses take up too much cabinet and pantry space.

plus it looks sweet.

it's a really nice crystal though, and im terrified of shattering it one of these days.

so it appears the end is near for rare beer sales on eBay. There is a lol-worthy discussion about it on BA right now. I've never ordered beer on eBay, but i'm glad to see the inflated pricing and things like that hopefully coming to an end.

Buying rare beer for consumption on eBay IS illegal and since 90% of the sellers were literally people that would go buy hoards of craft beer on KBS day or Dark Lord Day with full intention of reselling, I'm happy it's being shut down.

HOWEVER, there are vintages of beer that in MY mind would qualify as a collectible, as in, not available in retail stores, online, nor at the brewery that SHOULD be allowed to be sold for the collectible nature of the item, if you were buying it for the bottle not the contents.

Anyhow, glad it's gone and the BA/RB community (particularly Hill Farmstead, Cantillon, Russian River & Alpine) can stop getting their panties in a wad and just brew a ton of good beer.

All-in-all this came out of great beer supply being low and demand at an all-time high. If anyone is to blame it's breweries for not expanding. People complain about growing too fast, yet look at The Bruery, they have an exceptional business model and in their 4th year are able to distribute beer all over.

The biggest pet peeve of mine though is the BA/RB community getting on eBay when they themselves are illegally shipping across state lines without license themselves, a bit hypocritical if you ask me. If you trade beer, you have no right to criticise those buying collectibles on eBay, there's really no difference.

This guy sums it up pretty well on how I feel:

GABF sold out 49,000 tickets in 45 minutes. A bunch of people including all my friends had no luck getting tickets at 10:00am which means all tickets were pretty much accounted for in people's carts instantaneously.

GABF is getting a lot of flack for using Ticketmaster this year.
