And I'm telling you that in my case, virtual keyboard+autocorrect is just as fast if not faster than typing with a full-size physical keyboard with no autocorrect. Maybe I am just not a very accurate touch typist, but it feels like with the virtual keybord there is much less motion envolved hen going from key to key, and you can afford to be sloppy. Tactile experience is not the same, but it may be a matter of getting used to. 10/5/2012 11:23:31 AM |

Not what we're talking about.

Exactly. No matter what device you're on big or small a physical full size keyboard is always the fastest way to type.

You must be a really really slow typer. I consider myself a rather fast typer. I average 100+ and can hit 120 wpm pretty easily on the apple blue tooth keyboard. I'm also really good at typing on the iPad keyboard but doubt I hit over 50-60WPM. I bet your average iPad typer rarely breaks 30-40 if that.
That did look cool. Too bad touch technology response time is so horrible drawing on a tablet won't be like drawing on a physical surface for years to come.
I always refer people to this video to understand how horrible touch technology is today:

Yes I must admit I am not a very fast or accurate typer. I never timed myselt, but i'll do a couple tests this weekend between virtual keybaord and physical kebyoard out of curiosity.
Input delay on tablets is still there, but it has been improving really rapibdly with each generation of software/hardware. It should certainly be no worse than input delay on Wacom tablets. It will never feel exaclty like paper for obvious reasons, but on the other hand you can go from rag to canvas with a flick of a finger. e-Readers still don't feel like real paper, but that does not make them worse, it just makes them different. 10/5/2012 1:11:49 PM |

I have a stylus for my iPad 3 and input lag is horrible. Trying to draw something is a pain. Eventually they'll get input lag down low enough where the experience feels like you're writing on a physical surface like paper.
E-reader/e-ink is for reading not writing so screen refresh isn't a huge deal. E-ink display just looks way better than LCD displays. Especially outside. 10/5/2012 1:20:18 PM |

i will probably see what the market is for the first-gen third-gen ipad (that sounds ridiculous) and if I can buy a new one for ~$100-200 price diff of the market value of my current one id probably sell mine and get the newer one. just for the convenience of being able to carry around one charger. plus with imatch i really only need a 16GB anymore, so i could probably narrow that margin if there is a market for the first iteration of the 3.

I aint even . I don't see the huge enhancements, my ipad 3's screen is just as good as my iphone 5's, I haven't noticed any sort of lag for the faster proc to matter, and I don't really care that much about the connector or slightly better camera. 10/23/2012 2:17:00 PM |

It's an iPad 3S....wait 6 more months for the full refresh that looks more like the iPhone 5 and iPad mini design.
I guess we will be seeing 2 iPads a year now....that is insane. 10/23/2012 2:19:03 PM |

someone on another forum mentioned they just want to shift the iPad refresh to the fall and had to cut a cycle short while still staying competitive for the next year

HaLo All American 14255 Posts user info edit post |
I actually don't think so. I think the iPads will start seeing two models a year. There is so much innovation in the market within 12 months that apple actually probably needs to refresh every 6 in order to stay competitive and relevant. Note also that the 4th gen (the one announced today) is the same chassis and screen. 10/23/2012 4:26:01 PM |

Quote : | "Kitchin LJ then asked how long it would require to take down the existing statement to which the response was 24 hours. Kitchin LJasked: if Apple could take down the offending statement in 24 hours, why could a new one not go up in the same time?
The response from the now flaming Beloff was that, while he appreciated that this was surprising, he was assured by his clients that there were technical reasons. At that point sizeable rocket spouting sparks and flames emanated from the general direction of Sir Robin Jacob. He told Mr Beloff that he could not “believe the instructions which [Mr Beloff] had been given", that Mr Beloff’s instructions “were not good enough” and that if that point was to be pursued he (Sir Robin) would require “an affidavit from the Head of Apple setting out in full detail” why it would take 14 days for Apple (with considerable emphasis on the word "Apple") to do this." |
Those crazy Brits.

They can afford to be lazy this revision because no one is really bringing the heat.
Once jellybean and the next one start to ship en masse, Apple will be in a tough spot.
iOS is do for a major revision, or apple is going to go the way of blackberry.

iOS and OSX have never been the big selling points of Apple products to me. It's the quality of the hardware. I got an iPod touch in 2008, I got a Droid X in 2010, I've used them about the same, yet today the Droid X is falling apart and the battery can't keep a charge longer than half an hour, the iPod touch however has nearly perfect battery life and is fine besides some scuffs. My Macbook is 5 years old, it still works as good as the day I bought it. I can't say that about any other laptop I've owned. I've had to restart my netgear/belkin/linksys/etc routers monthly, I've never had to restart my Airport. I really don't care enough about anything apple to be a fanboy, but I can't stand poor quality in something I have a passion for (electronics). So iOS might be missing some stuff, but I'll stick with them until they stop blowing their competitors out of the water in hardware quality, and I'll keep paying twice as much until they stop lasting twice as long.11/24/2012 11:51:48 PM |
