The only one of those coaches I would consider would be Nolan.

I would have no issue with Jeff Daniels being handed the job.

Also, ruutu suffers from erik-colitis. He fucking falls every time he has the puck. Its pretty ridiculous, considering he gets paid millions to skate, pass and shoot. I saw him ruin, or give up, scoring scoring chances, because he was sitting on his ass.

I think B. Melrose could be interesting, and result in some passionate play. I think it's too soon for Franny to step up, but if he does, I hope Brindy takes a larger role.

Yeah, I thought Francis on the pp would be brilliant. Either these guys can't execute what he draws up, or he sucks. I'm going with the former, I think. Based off poorly timed shots and not being able to contain pucks on the boards

^5The Mullet is a fucking joke. No way in hell he gets another head coaching job again. Ever.

No way JR doesn't hire from inside. Personally, I'm surprised we brought Mo back and didnt give the job to Tom Rowe in the first place. Maybe they thought Rowe needed a bit more experience.

Now that I'm a little high/drunk/etc.... also keep in mind I know jack shit about hockey...

This season was both an amazing success and a huge disappointment. Going into the season, I thought this would be another high draft pick team, was prepared for it, and was simply prepared to have fun with it and roll with the punches. It was obvious by December that this was not one of those teams. This is where the success part pretty well ends.

After the ASG, this team was complete garbage for the better part of a month, if not longer. It seemed to get better for a bit, and they pulled a few wins together, but honestly, from pre-ASG until about a dozen games ago this team played like they did-not-want-to-be-there.

The N&O article by DeCock was spot on in saying that this is an extremely costly exit tonight. Once December rolled around with us not in the cellar, with the tons of publicity and the moves at the deadline that were made, we HAD to at least get in this season.

Now that I'm no longer blaming tonight myself, I'd say to anyone else that's as disappointed and crushed as I am right now to look back about 6-8 weeks ago and realize that we lost this playoff berth then, and couldn't muster the energy to finish it out.

[/rant]

See ya'll next year.

I just skipped to the last post, didnt read it... but did anyone else give up when FagMo kept Cam on the bench on that draw?

I thought I hated Cole (whom won me back this year)... but PissMo has got to go. He lost us this year... Chicago with Peters and tonight... 95 points

^^ The Canes finished far above where they were supposed to finish.

As for your Peters blast, what do you want? Cam to play 75 games a year?

The Canes had a helluva a season.

We played Atlanta 4 nights later... could've given Cam a 7 day break and played Peters that night.

I understand we finished much better than predicted, but Maurice made several errors this season that could have put us above an 8 place finish.

I wasn't blasting Peters, I was blasting Maurice.

So you are going to ignore the fact that as a team, the Hurricanes overachieved and did more than they ever were supposed to just so you can blast PaulMo. It is irrational, just like your belief the Chicago game cost the season.

I didn't blame it all on the Chicago loss, I did say you could point to that as one of the reasons.

And I do not think we over achieved. Our team is pretty legit. So regarding what I said earlier about this, I take it back. The Canes are a good hockey club.

Bowman, is the only one, I think. The ahl has a "clear day" roster, where at a certain point there's a freeze. There's a few situations where guys can go back and forth, but players not on the clear day roster may not play (to avoid us ending skinner down to run show)

Iirc, you can find clear day rosters on theahl.com

This season was blown after the Buffalo game where we on in OT. The Chicago loss was one I was ok with, Ward needed a break before the stretch run. We blew it when we got 1 of a possible 6 points from ATL, CBJ and TOR in mid-March. That's where BUF and NYR built their lead on us, and it was our easiest stretch of the playoff push.

I wouldn't mind seeing Daniels get a shot to coach the 'Canes. He was an assistant on the '06 team, the Checkers/River Rats have been really solid under him and this year they lead the AHL in PP goals.

Resign Cole, Jussi, Sutter (I think he's an RFA) and Joslin. Let LaRose walk unless he wants to make a 4th liner's salary and play on the 4th line and let Pitkanen walk. We need a winger to go with Staal (and have needed one for 5 years), a back up goalie and to let Boychuck and Dalpe start off the year with the team and give them a real shot in a top 9 role. We're gonna have money to spend this offseason and with Staal and Ward in their prime, I don't want to waste more time - I hope PK finally spends some.

^^ i disagree with letting larose walk. hard to come by his work ethic anywhere. entirely worth the money imo.

i also don't know why you'd let peters go. he's a good backup. he played about the same as leighton did and look what leighton did with philly last year.

let's not forget also that ward was a backup until gerber got sick. peters needs more development of course but i see more of a problem with our lack of aggressive play and more importantly, the fact that since 2006 we've played very inconsistently in nov, dec and jan before picking back up and making a run for the playoffs. we need stamina and discipline.

Any journeyman goalie in this league can get hot for a month. The all-time shutout streak leader is Brian fucking Boucher, for fuck's sake. There's a reason Leighton has been dumped by every team he's ever played for, including Philly, and it's that he's a mediocre goaltender.

well wait a second now

how long has leighton been in the nhl (not including ahl)?

if you can see someone come through in the clutch then the issue isn't that they are mediocre, it's that they are undeveloped at best and streaky at worst. has there really been enough time to quantify leighton in either of those two categories? especially considering he hasn't started for any regular length of time?

LaRose is already overpaid and will no doubt be looking for a further raise. There are a hundred "energy guys" that do what he does, are larger, and can score.

Sutter needs to hit the weights this summer. His production fell this year and if he wants to be part of the future he needs to get tougher and faster.

I'd honestly think twice about Cole as well unless we can keep him at the same price as this year or less. This year was awesome but, well, it was a contract year where he managed to stay relatively healthy. We can keep trotting out the same fan favorites at increasingly higher prices, or make some moves that might actually get us fighting for 4th and 5th instead of 8th and 9th.

Sutter barely played on the PP unit this year and was also our best defensive forward. His points may have dropped off, but he was top 10 in blocked shots (not that that stat, in itself, is super meaningful) and his +/- was the best on the team, by far.

Yeah, I think Sutter had a great year.

And sure, Cole is a fan favorite, but he was one of the best players we had on the ice this season. I don't think he's worth offering a huge raise, but if he can even come close to producing that way next year then he's worth keeping.

His first NHL game was early in 2003. He played 34 games for Chicago in 03-04 and has never matched that total. He's not bad, but he's also never shown the stuff to even get a real whiff of starting duty in a league where there are a solid handful of shaky starters.

And here's a bit from Puck Daddy, just for GGMon:

Quote :
"The ugliest loss of the three was by Carolina, though that was probably to be expected. After all, the 'Canes were only hanging around at all given the Rangers' complete inability to seal things up down the stretch, letting a mediocre team with no defense to speak of grip tenuously to the edge of oblivion through the sheer force of Cam Ward's will.

So the Lightning went into Raleigh and the game was done for all intents and purposes within the first 11 or so minutes. It was already 4-0 Bolts when the Hurricanes showed any life at all. But that was pretty much the season in a nutshell: Too many weak team efforts.

In the game, as he did all season, Cam Ward faced a ridiculous number of shots because not only did the defense stink, the offense couldn't effectively hold the puck for long enough stretches to prevent the other team from getting chances either.

It was poorly constructed and poorly coached from Day 1, and frankly, the Hurricanes deserved to be in the NHL playoffs about as much as your beer league team."
