This may be in the thread. I checked but didn't see it. Yesterday in the morning I heard a quote from Gottfrieds weekly show. He said (paraphrasing here) "The thing about the NCAA tournament is you get a new group of officials that you probably haven't ever seen" the entire room sounded like it broke in applause and cheers. Baller as fuck for calling out the officiating in general this year.

while i think it's great that someone is saying something about the officiating in the ACC, i can't help but wonder if it'll end up hurting us next year. it's bad enough the officials are scouting players to slap fouls on before every game. hopefully they won't go into nc state games with even more bias because we have a coach and an AD who are publicly making an issue of how bad they suck. still, +1 for getting it out there.

^ I initially had that reaction to Yow's letter, and now this comment from Gottfried, but I think that whole "cower in fear at the power of the blue ACC and their minions of zebras" is a defeatist approach (read: pussy). I hope that them being called out publicly for sucking will instead improve things. Nobody likes to be called out for being bad at their job. IDK.

Half of Gott's questions were about the officiating. He spent a good portion side stepping any inappropriate questions. He even fielded one that said "Come on, we'll all pay your fine, just tell us how you really feel."

So, if he got a barb or two in, I'm not surprised. And I think it's less a slam at officiants in the ACC, and more of a way of saying it is a clean slate for any team to go out there.

he clarified his statement on Glenn's show yesterday. He said he wasn't saying it as a knock on officiating, but more like you'll see refs you haven't seen before, you don't know how they call it

Honestly not calling out the refs hasn't done NC State or any other non-blue ACC team any good for the past 25 years so might as well raise a big ass stink about it and hope that it draws more media attention. Sitting back and taking it Herb style just reinforces the refs to continue to do the same old shit.

Calling out the refs might lead to some bias against us, but if we lead the way, maybe other teams will follow leading to some actual change in the ACC. Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

^ Most coaches who established themselves at some point in the ACC have made some very public statements about officals fucking up. If the officials think that you aren't going to take shit off of them they will be careful.
^^ and that was to make sure he didn't get a fine. If you think for a minute that that statement wasn't a sly dig at ACC officiating you have to be obtuse.

I'm pretty sure his comment was referring to UNC winning it all, and us losing in the Sweet 16. That's why he followed up with "We respect his opinion but we understand this game will be decided once the ball goes in the air." And it's no secret that picking UNC to win it all is going to get you a heck of a lot more votes than picking State to win it all.
