can't find a FoxNews link to it, but they were bitching today about the fact that the average SanFran worker makes 40k a year, but the average pension was 70k. Despite the fact that I can't find any corroboration of the average salary figure, they are forgetting something: you can pay more into your pension and make it bigger! It's this thing we have called "an investment"! Stupid fucks 6/20/2011 6:52:34 PM |

http://www.spitefulcritic.com/home/10-most-ridiculous-fox-news-lies-creative-edits-and-half-truths
Quote : | "Unless you're a bit brain-damaged, it shouldn't come as too much of a shock that Fox News occasionally plays fast and loose with the truth. Occasionally they will distort, creatively edit, or even fabricate evidence to support their narrative. But don't worry, you're not the only one screaming at your television. Unfortunately, there is nothing illegal with what Fox News does (well, kind of). In 2003, the Florida Court of Appeals agreed with Fox News that it is not illegal to distort or falsify the news in the United States, but there is a lot of gray area. For example, the FCC has said in the past that rigging the news kind of bums them out, but they can't do anything unless they receive "...documented evidence of such rigging or slanting. This kind of evidence could include testimony, in writing or otherwise, from 'insiders' or persons who have direct personal knowledge of an intentional falsification of the news." So basically if the FCC were to catch you and your brother handing out a flyer claiming in red crayon that "Sprinkles the cat is an evil communist," when Sprinkles is in fact a simple, democracy loving cat, you can't get into trouble unless your brother rats you out and tells the FCC that you knew Sprinkles wasn't a communist when you put crayon-to-paper. If your brother stays tight-lipped about the whole thing, the FCC will just assume you were ignorant when it came to the correct political orientation of Sprinkles, so you weren't really at fault, just stupid. I just downgraded my satellite TV to the most basic package, and the only news channel I get now is MSNBC. I have to say, I think that MSNBC is even more ridiculous and overtly partisan than even Fox News is.
I remember back in the day when CNN was the Communist News Network, Fox News was pretty much what it is now, and MSNBC was the relatively middle-ground news network. 8/2/2011 10:21:03 PM |

Quote : | "It issues severe weather advisories and hijacks local radio and television stations to get the message out." |
How dare they try to issue out life saving information to as many people as possible. It's nothing more than weather propaganda!
Quote : | "It presumes that citizens do not pay attention to the weather and so it must force important, perhaps lifesaving, information upon them." |
I know, right? I'm still pretty bitter about the NWS interrupting my enjoyment of Ke$ha as I was driving in the car going towards an area with a reported tornado. Assholes.
Quote : | "Relying on inaccurate government reports can endanger lives. Last year the Service failed to predict major flooding in Nashville because it miscalculated the rate at which water was releasing from dams there. The NWS continued to rely on bad information, even after forecasters knew the data were inaccurate. The flooding resulted in 22 deaths. " |
Sounds like they need more funding and better oversight, not to be abolished.
Quote : | "Private weather services do exist, and unsurprisingly, they are better than the NWS. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005, the National Weather Service was twelve hours behind AccuWeather in predicting that New Orleans would be affected. Unlike the NWS, AccuWeather provides precise hour-by-hour storm predictions, one of the reasons private industry supports them." |
And it's fine that we do have private weather services. But I do not feel that potentially life saving information that is needed immediately should only be sourced from private sources that can charge an arm and a leg for such information without a public source to keep prices in check. I see these as being additional valuable sources that can be used to verify the NWS.8/28/2011 4:16:34 AM |

tornado warning times would go down significantly and in rural cases they would vanish. It takes a lot of manpower and money to keep radars operating properly. No private company would pay to maintain a radar out in bumfuck. 8/28/2011 9:03:18 AM |
