Hmmm. Maybe its my naivety, but I didn't think mega-clubs like Arsenal took the FA Cup so seriously.(I get there was a trophy drought) Is it similar to our Gator Bowl over celebration? How do shit squads like Hull and Wigan end up in the Finals so often? 5/18/2014 7:50:39 PM |

I think it's only been in recent years that the FA Cup has maybe lost some of its significance in the eyes of some, mainly due to the ascent of the Champions League. I also think the FA Cup has more significance to fans who are actually from England than those abroad. I've always loved it. It's a competition with such great history and the idea of 800 teams competing in one competition is kind of awesome.
The amount that Arsenal fans have relished this weekend probably does have a lot to do with the trophy drought, but for many people, myself included, the FA Cup is always a big deal. I never liked it when Wenger played a weakened side in it. 5/18/2014 9:21:56 PM |

I see the FA cup as a consolation prize. Like, "Okay, you didn't win the league, but here's a victory that's not quite worthless"
For me, it's only really bad-ass, and something to brag about, when won in combination with other shit (like a league and cup double, or like, if RM win the Copa del Rey and Champions League)
It's icing, but I don't quite see it as proper cake. 5/18/2014 10:37:20 PM |

I mean it's hard to call Arsenal a "mega-club" in 2014, considering it had been 9 years without a trophy so that's why it was such a big deal. Just like it would have been a big deal if Liverpool had somehow won the tournament this year (so Arsenal fans don't get mad at me).
The FA Cup matters when you make it far and doesn't when you lose early. It's that simple. I don't even watch early games with PL teams, even Liverpool. But I was hyped as shit when Liverpool won in '06.
Hull beat Boro, Southend, Brighton, Sunderland Sheffield Utd. Not exactly murderer's row. There are always big teams drawn together (Liv/Arse, Arse/Everton, City/Chelsea) that make it easier for a crap team to slip through. And then it all depends on other fixtures. If Arsenal is top of the table in the quarters and semis, who knows what kind of team Wenger would put out?5/19/2014 8:51:11 AM |

I got seats in 206. Friendlies like this don't come to NC often and it's Liverpool so I had to buy some tickets. Pricey tho.

I see Barca are trying to move for David Luiz again. He pulled the greatest trick in the world convincing people he is a top flight CB. He's a first choice FIFA 14 player with a strong free kick but isn't even a top 7 CB in England.
I am thankful they love him and not a much better defender like Koscielny.
All Man United jokes aside, I hope I get to see Kagawa in his natural position a bit next year to really see him play. I loved watching him at Dortmund.. 5/20/2014 8:04:41 AM |

So somebody school me if wrong but did Luis Suarez just have the best offensive season in EPL 38 game season history? He tied the goals record and beat the goals per game record and led the league in assists. Has anyone ever had more "points" than him? I know Ronaldo, Drogba and rvp didn't. Then not to mention that Suarez didn't take penalties.

Where would Cesc fit back in with Arsenal even? He isn't a holding mid (of which they desperately need to pair with Ramsey) and he won't bench Ozil. He'd almost have to play out wide in Wenger's system.
Need a RB (Aurier), a DM, a keeper, a ST and someone out wide on the left all before a Cesc.
Aurier, Schneiderlin, a frontman with pace and a keeper strengthens the team immensely and is doable..

That whole story is about how it's ok that Suarez bit people and is a racist because he grew up poor? Give me a fucking break. There are plenty of stars out there with stories just like his who don't carry the same kind of mentally dysfunctional baggage. It's a game, and Suarez is a fucking disgrace.

^^ I read £9m but if it is £4m that's fine. That's £4m more than Aspas as worth and they need cover for the bloated schedule with Europe...
Arsenal locking up Schneiderlin makes too much sense.... so clearly it won't happen

Lallana is being given the English premium. He's good but not £25-30m good. Cesc is.
Though I'd be shocked if Wenger allowed him to a top four rival and didn't exercise refusal right. 6/2/2014 12:11:39 PM |
