i should have one of those connectors laying around if the autozone doesnt have it. i also have a couple of spare stock round headlights and a set of foglamps i used on my ninja for a little streetfighter flavor. i am moving on to a different set of foglights.

I went for a quote on Progressive for full coverage for me on a 99 TL1000R and was looking at over 7 grand a year, with a pretty good driving record. Considering the bike itself was only $5300, doesn't that seem a bit ridiculous? Who are you guys getting your insurance from?

yeah, at 7 grand they are defenitely not making much sense, even for a tl.

i have Geico.. saves you 15% or more on car insurance.. works fine for my bike. it just doubled to $120 every 6 month cause ive got a ticket, but it used to be $45 on my ex500 and about $65 on my hawk. that only included minimum liability coverage, no collision, but it would be hard to hurt someone with a bike to fuck em up enough to exeed minimum coverage, unless its a dumb pedestrian.

i have state farm with astronomical liability for my car tho, cars are completely different matter. i don't have collision coverage on my car either

Humm, I should call up geico. I did progressive as they tend to have a no-BS quote on their site. also igor, your also older than me. You prolly already have 3 yrs past by you for your insurance record.

I think the BMW is uber cool as well, but not my cup of tea, especially since it needs work.

Find me a bike that makes more than 65hp, and costs less than $1.5k, ANYBODY, please!!!

ahmet, did you sell your gsxr? i saw posts where you were offered 3k,3100...just curious..
also would you have any interest in a 1998 650 bandit? i have a line on one and really do not like the naked/nearly naked look..i prefer a full body(motorcycle)..

I'm looking for a first motorcycle as well, 600cc or under...preferably something in good mechanical condition. perfect examples: ex500, gs500, etc. etc. I'm definately trying to get something I can handle for a first bike (aka not an R1 or something to that extent) and to learn on.

On a side note, I took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation course last fall. In order to get my motorcycle permit and/or license at DMV, do I need to already have motorcycle insurance? I don't really want to be paying insurance if I don't own a bike yet...

Thanks,
Jon

you should not need insurnace to get your license..i do not know the procedure for the road test down here,in NY state you need to provide a street legal/insured motorcyle to take the test on...

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think by taking the MSF course, I'm exempt from having to take the riding test...I only have to take the written portion.
Anyone else know about NC insurance laws?

to get your learners permit, i didn't think there was a road test

i dunno though, haven't done it yet...

and that bmw is awesome
i saw one just like it at church last night and was like "that would be so friggin sweet"

Neither the learning permit nor a full license require you to have insurance. Insurance is only necessary if you want to register the bike, for exactly that reason. If you don't have a bike, you don't have to pay insurance.

If you take the MSF course you do not have to take the riding portion of the motorcycle licensing test. To get the learners permit, ALL you need to do is, go in, take one written test, one vision/sign recognition test, and pay $10-15, get your picture taken.

nicholaspea, that bike's in Charlotte, and for $1500, frankly I think I can do a tad bit better. If nothing else comes around, maybe... Thanks for the info posted. BTW, I've been looking at e36s, if I could find one that's not a rip off, I'd buy it, but no luck so far.

tsmith, the GSXR has been sold (a bit more than that however). I am interested, did send you a PM, please respond.

I've been missing a bike ever since sold my '97 Harley Sportster my sophomore year. I'm thinking that my next bike is going to have to be something older and more unique.

I'm going to end up getting a BMW R12 at some point in my life. Its the 750cc bike that the Germans overran Europe with a few years back. Whats weird is that they have a hand shifter on the side of the gas tank, so apparently its tricky learning to take your hand off the throttle, shift gears, and then give it some gas.

I know what dual sports are. Back when I had a bike I was lucky enough to live on a few acres of trails that were connected to a few more acres of trails that the owner didn't mind us riding on, and then those connected to pasteurs we could ride on too. Fine times as a young buck. What is the closest public land that can be ridden on?
