You're in no position to insult my intelligence, boy. Look, I think Herb is a decent coach. He has definitely gotten us in to a better position than we were under Les. And unlike you, I actually attended some of those embarrassing 40+ point blowouts.

It's the maddening ability of Herb's teams to come ill-prepared to big games that has me frustrated. It's the lack of rebounding that has me frustrated. It's the inability to develop interior players to their full potential that has me frustrated. I am not entirely convinced that Herb can take us to the point where we can win these big, important games.

Totally agree. I do not understand why Herb cannot beat Carolina. He always has trouble in the pinch, but tonight they did not have a chance all night. Even Les Robinson could beat Carolina with some consistency. Herb did a great job bringing our program back and an amiable departure would be great. He will do great at a small conference where he can dominate and win a few games in NCAA births. But we will never bring our program back to the heights we reached in the past with him at the head of our ship.

People often use the Chuck v. Herb stats to show why we should keep Herb.

However, i believe when you compare the two, you can see EXACTLY why we should get rid of Herb.

Chuck brings an attitude. This attitude is reflected in the team. The team comes out cocky, with a swagger. The fans EXPECT chuck's teams to be able to compete - even with the elite teams in the conference. We (99% of the time) look very well prepared against the top competition. We beat FSU at home, on the road, beat VT on the road and play them tight as hell at home.

However, Herb brings no energy to his team. I heard Evtimov say that he thought the NCSU v. UNC was just like any other game. This mentality is the problem. I GUARANTEE you Roy had his team fired up and ready to go. He had the pumped up. Herb's laid-back style comes off as wimpy. And it reflects in the attitude of the team. They aren't physical, have no inside presence, and don't seem to care when bad stuff happens.

The footbal program gives an attitude of toughness, swagger, and the expectation to compete hard EVERy game.

The basketball team comes across as reserved and tenative. This is why the football team always has great expectations (even the media picks us to upset good teams) and the basketball team always has low expectations (i heard NO ONE in the media picking state to win against UNC)

I don't think Herb should be fired

I just think he'd be better off coaching another team

we need a coach that will give us the mentality to go over the top (or rather, WE don't need the coach, but the players do)

herb just doesn't seem to have that

and we do, in fact, lose alot of crucial games like tonight's

but I still like him as a coach

he just needs a little more verve or something

I doubt you're talking to me, but if you are, I think the number of wins and losses is negligible considering, for example, if we meet UNC yet again in the ACC tourney

we may have won 3 or 4 more games than them by then (or not), but that doesn't matter as soon as they beat our ass once again

and this continues on into the NCAA tourney, where 1 loss matters, and it matters largely

so even if we have more wins, that one crucial loss will affect us, and I think tonight's loss counted as a crucial one because we don't have another chance to redeem ourselves against Duke

I cant believe I'm even posting in this thread, but something has to be done about our sports teams losing to UNC. I know its the most irrational thought ever, but if you have a great season and lose to UNC twice in basketball and in football, its NOT ok. Its not worth being fired over, but something has to change. The fact that we looked like we didnt give a shit tonight speaks volumes about how bad this situation is. Nobody should have to deal with years and years of bullshit from UNC fans because your sports teams dont give a fuck about the rivalry. UNC says its not a rivalry, but they're the reasons we care so damn much. If its not a rivalry, then they wouldnt talk shit. well guess what, they do talk shit. Everyone respects their basketball program, but its the fans that drive you nuts. I personally cant take much more of their crap.

I dont know if we need to get some people in the locker room to get them fired up (like thompson and burleson) or what. Someone has to fire our guys up. We just looked like we didnt care. You play basketball for your fans. Without us, there is no program. At least give us the one thing we want most, and thats to compete with UNC every once in a while. I'm not asking for a national championship, but for fucks sake, win a big game here and there.
