^^ hadnt thought of that, plus, are there any regular storms forecast for the area?

Its also more likely now that more levees will breech

without the pump system the city would flood in a drought because the water wants to be down lower. just like if you dig a whole deep enough right next to a lake it will fill with water from below. without electricity the pumps are not gonna operate. guess what the alternative is? diesal fuel. but they cant get the fuel into it till roads are passible and pump stations are not submerged

the only reason the Mississippi River didnt bust those leves was because it was way way way down. Parents went over it a couple weeks ago, and it was very very low. Even before the storm, they werent worried about the Miss River, they were worried about the Lake.

good news, looks like another lull in the tropics!

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER HAS RE-INITIATED ADVISORIES ON
TROPICAL DEPRESSION THIRTEEN LOCATED BETWEEN BERMUDAS AND THE
AZORES.

THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 1300 MILES EAST OF THE LESSER
ANTILLES CONTINUES REMAINS WELL-ORGANIZED AND MOVING TOWARD THE
NORTHWEST. THIS SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BECOME A TROPICAL
DEPRESSION OVER THE NEXT DAY OR TWO AS UPPER-LEVEL WINDS BECOME
MORE CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT

As much as I love hurricanes and hate people I almost don't want another landfall hurricane this year because of dumb ass humans and their dependancy on a finite resourse to power their lives. They use hurricanes as an excuse to jack up oil prices. Damn this sucks.

all the waves that come off at 15N are Fish Waves, there is one at 10 that will make it across, mid atlantic, looks like a "keeper" as in, Gulf Bound...also, computer models by Monday are forcasting a TD either off the coast of Fl(crossing it, and going in the Gulf) or between the Bahamas and Bermuda(would be a Fish Storm)

It's probably going to go back out to Sea.

Most storms have this year that have come close to our coast.

you are correct that they are feeling the effects (some tropical storm-force winds are making its way on the central east coast of FL), but not correct that the system is headed towards florida

It's a tropical storm, which is nothing to sneeze at. It will rain and blow around plastic and stuff.

they canceled school in wilmington and closed unc-w for the next few days. they told all of the kids there to go home and come back thursday or friday. the biggest fear is the electricity going out and them having nothing to do. it's supposed to be high winds but they haven't said much about rain yet.

fuck, ~80 mph wind is nothing

we never even boarded up the windows for that shit

if it didn't get over 100 we didn't do shit, and it probably had to 125 or so to consider leaving

Just remember the fact that Ophelia will likely spend 48 hours over eastern NC. While wind damage will be minimal, flooding is a concern. Luckily, the airmass surrounding Ophelia is so dry, that rain bands won't propegate out very far from the storm's center. However, some areas right on the coast could still get a massive amount of rain.

As Floyd taught us in 1999, eastern NC floods very easily. All of this being said, if property owners prepair for flooding rains, then property damage should be light to non-existant. However, there's always going to be people who don't prepair their stuff right, then they'll go bitching on CNN about how the government should buy them new shit.

Yeah if not for New Orleans and Katrina, I don't think all these closings would even be considered.

Too bad there's pretty much NO way we'll get out for it.
