Lucius Vorenus is the correct spelling of the character's name.

What I want to know is what are some possible plot directions(other than the obvious historical ones). Anyone have any thoughts?

Eirene seemed a bit too forgiving towards Pullo at the end, which I did not like. Perhaps the writers did it in an attempt to balance out the tragedies that occured?

She killed herself; it looked pretty obvious as she lept over the edge.

As for Eirene, how do we know she isn't going to put a knife in Pullo's back later?

Something about smashing her fiance's head into a stone column because Pullo got pissed when he found out she was engaged.

My guesses:

*Vorenus and Pullo will become military/political advisors for Octavian.
*After Octavian and Marc Antony sieze power, Servilia (or her relatives) will be beheaded along with many others.
*Both Vorenus and Pullo will play a military role at the Battle of Actium where Octavian defeats Marc Anthony and Cleopatra.

By the way, Marc Antony will follow through on his promise to Cicero. The little prick deserved it anyway.

Yeah Cicero was being an ass to Vorenus.

One thing that wasn't cool -- they left out Caesar's famous last words!!!

"Et tu, Brute?" is supposed to be one of the most famous quotes in all of history. Anyway, beware the Ides of March.

^actually, they did good by cutting away and leaving it inaudible -- much better to have the audience imagine caesar whisper it with his last breath. it would be lame to have him recite that shit like it were some high school play.

[Edited on November 22, 2005 at 11:19 PM. Reason : plus they wouldnt have to deal with do they say it in english or latin]

^ I have to agree. The writers really showed their independence from popular expectations by omitting those words. It's a good thing.

I can see what you mean about that. I must say that the scene where they killed him was supremely done. I kind of expected Mark Antony to do more but it still worked great.

Isn't that mostly a Shakespearean artifact? He might not have even said that.

and having the backdrop of Naomi & Vorenus...very intense.

All of that sounds very reasonable. Octavian has found them to be friends and it would make since to bring them close to him.

Octavian 2008!

Agreed. I thought the most powerful moment of the scene was where Caesar tried to conceal his stab wounds with his toga--very humanizing.

***

Anyway, now that the season has ended, what are your thoughts on the Caesar? Would you side with him? Or with the Senators? (by that, I don't the mean assasinatation plot) I think the series did a superb job showing the pros and cons of each faction.

***
On a side note, I received a copy of Cicero's work "A Life Well Spent" recently. After watching the series, it puts things in a whole new light.

They put in the one I wanted "Sic Semper Tyrannis", but it was translated into english, like "et tu", would have been too, I don't think it would have been as good of a scene had they thrown in the "You too Brutus?". I liked it, although I always imagined Ceasar fighting off his attacks untill stabbed by Brutus.

I thought he put up a spirited defense considering he was mobbed by a bunch of people with daggers. I thought him catching the knife with his bare hand showed defiance.

I'm no history buff, but ceasar was a great leader who expanded and unified rome. He was killed for taking political power from the rich and attempting to give it to all his citizens. I think there was a great line in this miniseries "I believe the senate should contain the greatest men in Italy, not just the richest men in Rome".

It depends on your point of view. The people and working class of Rome liked him because he listened to them and was overall a good and effective leader. But he achieved this by use of force (obviously), so pretty much anyone who stood in his way was killed.

Not neccesarily.

He'd have killed his attackers long ago had that been his approach. He was a tyrant in the Greek sense of the word, but he wasn't a despot.

Octavian will exterminate all of the senators, and he is considered rome's best, most benevolent ruler.
