No way UT should've been a #2. #3 or #4 would've been more appropriate.

Go Vols!

hahaha. Something happened... maybe they figure Tenn. fans will travel well because of the "newness" of not sucking ass?

high RPI and SOS helped, but still...

TSN's 2006 college basketball awards
By Mike DeCourcy - SportingNews

Mike Decourcy
SportingNews.com

COACH OF THE YEAR: Bruce Pearl, Tennessee

Tennessee's only major recruit for 2005-06 is no threat from 3-point range and never will put up a double-double, but Bruce Pearl did completely reinvent Volunteers basketball (men's basketball, that is).

Pearl was hired too late to bring in difference-making players. So he pushed the guys who had finished 14-17 a year earlier to get in shape and play with passion. Despite limited depth, the Vols became a pressing team. Pearl drove Tennessee to the top of the SEC East division, and the Vols are headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.

Nearly as important, Pearl reconnected the program to a fan base searching for a reason to embrace the team. Tennessee fans consistently filled the immense Thompson-Boling Arena, and their enthusiasm helped fuel the pressure defense applied by the Vols.

I really like what I see of Bruce during ESPN's "all access" in their locker room...his speeches are a HUGE reason for the turnaround. You couldn't help but get pumped listening to that guy coach you.

Plus their locker rooms are DANK.

I am actually really really worried about Winthrop, they have the perfect setup to beat Tenn., good inside game, good passing skills to avoid the press... And everyone is saying that they should be seeded higher than they are and Tenn. lower, more like a 4/13, 5/12 type thing

idiots.... predicted to finish 5th in their division, not conference, division. Just getting into the tournament was a great year. Tis but the start of the dynasty... have a top 15 recruiting class coming back next year along with most of the current players (aside from Watson), top 10 attendance (maybe top 5).

what about it? Texas is a streaky team. If they aren't hitting their 3s they lose.

Too bad they are.

landed another big time recruit...

Quote :
"adding a commitment from five-star guard Ramar Smith, he has thoroughly demonstrated that it's a different game on the recruiting trail as well.

Smith's signing gives the Vols three of the top-50 players in the Class of 2007 according to the Rivals.com Top-150, and provides the program with an influx of talent the likes of which it's never enjoyed. . Smith (No. 30 overall), Wayne Chism (No. 42) and Duke Crews (No. 28) give lend some serious weight to a class that also includes Marques Johnson and Josh Tabb, and should easily be considered the best in the SEC, and among the top-five in the nation....

The final class rankings won't be assembled until the signing period is wrapped up, but Myer said look for the Vols to be among the elite in the nation.

"It's an outstanding class," he said. "Right now it's the best in the SEC, certainly in the top-five in the country, and I would say probably No. 3 right behind UNC and Ohio State."
"

Vols def. deserved a #2 seed not by merit just simply b/c there were no teams that deserved it more. Gonzaga no they play in a weak conference, yes had good games out of conference but thats all, FLorida no Vols beat the Gators twice.
