Ok...so I work in the Lab Animal Research facility at the Vet School and we have a dog that is looking for a home. It doesn't happen often that the animals used in the facility are able to be adopted (as most are euthanized) so we're tryin' real hard to get her a home.

Her name is Bubbles. She's a border collie mix (she's taller and a bit bigger than one, but looks just like one). She's approx. 5 years old, up to date on all shots, and not spayed (i could see if the vet school would do this if anyone was interested in adopting her). She's perfectly healthy, she was mainly used for teaching labs by the vet students so she doesnt have like 5 legs or 3 eyes from wacky experiments. The only catch is....she is dog agressive and needs to go to a home without any other dogs. SHe's super sweet to humans though!

If you, or someone you know, or a rescue group you may volunteer with....could help Bubbles out, it would be awesome! Anymore questions feel free to pm or email me kmbabb@ncsu.edu

That Rotti is nice

if anyone comes across a small dog in a shelter or that just needs a new home let me know.
My Granndmother recently lost her 2 elderly dogs (a Yorkie and a Scottish Terrier) and she's been lonely without any company.
She'd like anything small (under 25 pounds) and preferably over the age of 2. Breed doesn't matter.
She'd spoil it rotten and is home all day.

a beautiful young female yellow lab ~4-6 months. looks purebred
a chocolate lab mix (spaniel? border collie?)

don't you have to pay for the spay/neuter cost?

no the animals at franklin county ac don't receive any vet care.
so unless they are an owner-surrender with vet records they know nothing about them.
the majority of the animals that come into this shelter are intact. hence - why they have such a problem with strays... if more people in that county would spay/neuter then there wouldn't be such a problem. sad.

i've pulled close to 50 puppies and dogs from this shelter. i've been fortunate that none of them had anything seriously wrong with them. usually just whipworms or ringworms.
no heartworms or mange or anything costly to treat.

there is a vet clinic in wake forest that is VERY reasonably priced! (North Wake Animal Hospital)
last time i brought in 4 puppies that i'd just pulled - it cost me $70 for all 4 to receive their first round of shots, fecal exam, blood work, and dewormer. you can't beat that.

its about 30 minutes from Raleigh. The AC officers are real nice (for the most part). they know me by name and sight. call first to ensure the animal is still there. they put down animals every few days and the website isn't updated everyday.

one of the animals available^

^they're free to remove from the shelter. you're still responsible for veterinary care and spaying/neutering. the shelter doesn't provide any veterinary care prior to adoption.

For some weird reason, I'm in the mood for a pet, but I don't think the management company would like that. My dog for over 10 years was KIDNAPPED at my parents' house a few months ago. My dad never found her body or anything... She was really sweet and smart too, which is a rare combination. I guess someone else noticed that.

some great dogs that need homes

SPAYED female jack russle/terrier mix. fawn and white. small and adorable. she'd be easy to find a home for. * if she is still there Thursday i'm considering pulling her (although my bf might disown me)

adorable small terrier/min pin? mix. brindle in color. very sweet. ~20 lbs or so.

lovable friendly Rhodesian Ridgeback mix.

2 beagles

beautiful purebred yellow lab female.

boxer/american staff mix male

black lab mix

a few hound and pointer mixes

2 cats and 2 kittens

the shelter is full and many of these animals are out of time. if you've been looking to adopt consider the animals at this shelter. they have a low adoption rate. I've had great luck placing dogs and puppies i've pulled from this shelter. I could help transport on Thursday if you need help.

litter of 8 pups - mostly tan and one looks black and tan. Only 5 weeks old! they were owner surrendered much too young! poor things!
they sorta look like a shep/terrier mix. markings of a shep but one has the wiring of a terrier.

Litter of 4 pups - 7-8 wks. shep/rott/lab mix. real cute. 2 are black and tan. 2 are tan

2 pups - few months old. both look like catahoula leopard dogs.one might have shep or husky in it. both really nice looking dogs.

a young yellow lab mix. big block head. nice looking dog. male. around 5-6 months old.

(purebred) bluetick coonhound

a boxer

i'm unable to foster but can help you out with finding a rescue to sponser them and can send you to a vet who does rescue work for practically cost. i can't transport until monday but will be glad to help if you can't get there while they're open

owner surrenders can be put down the same day they come in
strays get 3 days (in case someone claims them)
if they have space they'll hold on to all the adoptable and friendly animals they can

the vet usually comes on thursday or friday to put down animals if they are close to capacity (to make room for animals that come in over the weekend)

I recommend calling to check the status of an animal. the website isn't updated every day and the animal control officers will answer any questions you have.

http://harnettanimalcontrol.com/

Harnett County Animal Control is beyond full

It looks like a Lab breeder was shut down and all their dogs were dropped off.
TONS of Labs- most look purebred. A lot of black and yellow, 1 brown.
Litters of lab puppies, labradoodles, labxrat terrier crosses

I heard they don't even have them all listed on the site. Someone told me when they went last week that they had to have close to 80 dogs and puppies and just as many kittens!
they have 10 or 12 kittens stuffed into tiny cages without air conditioning. Some moms with tiny babies and tons of adorable 6-10 week kittens ready to go.

They charge a $20 adoption fee.
All animals that are left are put down on Wednesdays.

The shelter is easy to get to. south of fuquay. took me about 30 min to get there and i live near tryon rd.

Even if you can just pull them and foster them. Give em a bath, dewormer and post them on craigslist and you can find homes easy.

I wish I could pull some but my hands are tied. (wedding, baby on the way, buying a house)

That place really pisses me off. I do not know what excuse they have for not listing all of the available animals on the website. I have been down there enough times to tell you that if there are 10 dogs listed, there are probably 30 or more there that need homes. If you ask them about it the woman will tell you the best thing to do is call, when you call she just brushes you off the phone and tells you to come out there. It is really pathetic.

I have three used crates free to anyone who gets a dog from there today......these crates are usually $60 or more at walmart. If someone adopts/foster you can pick up a crate behind my townhouse on Kaplan just call me when your on the way back from the shelter. Please only take one if you have already picked up an animal, I want to make sure they are being used.

Any animal that is still there tonight when they close that has already been there 72 hours will be put down tomorrow. It is a very small shelter and they only give the animals 3 days to to be adopted.

Here are some pics of the crates.

There is also a full size dog crate back there that I don't have a pic of. If you need a crate call me at 673-7389. If I dont answer try a couple of time I am at the beach and do not have good reception.

Looks like a lot of pups from Harnett got pulled according to the website. but who knows what else they have there.

but
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC119.html
Franklin County is full too
they have a few litter of puppies.
1 litter of shep crosses. (3)
1 litter of black lab puppies (7 or 8)
1 litter of golden ret/lab/? puppies. all blonde in color with some white. they'd be easy to find homes for.

plus a bunch of older puppies and adult dogs that need homes. There's a cute yellow lab x and a small terrier.

the first litter of 3 shep puppies were adopted but everything else needs to get out. They'll probably start putting them down tomorrow due to being full.

right now they have close to 20 puppies and another dozen adult dogs.
mostly lab puppies. There is a beautiful young male border collie. EASY to find a home for.
and a beautiful young female yellow lab. A cute boxer mix. plus many more.

http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC119.html
free to adopt from this facility. Animals receive no vaccines. They have extended hours until 7pm on Thursdays so convenient for those who work till 5.
