Just saw this one for the first time... Is there anyway we can get this chat thrown up on the news, cause this is a serious issue and it really pi$$es me off. I have tried flashing my brights like many of you, people around here are just retarded beyond belief, not to mention their driving habits seem to get worse in general.

For those of you who claim to use daytime running lights THAT IS NOT THE SAME. I too have DRLs but I still turn on my lights so that the people behind me can see me as well. Early in the morning on a cloudy, rainy day people need to see you from all sides, DRLs will not accomplish this. Please god, turn on your lights if only to avoid rear end collisions (even though it is the law and most ppl I see dont have DRLs either).

I have vented...I feel better

Almost need another thread for people that block the highway because they want to drive -no lie- 35 in the left lane.

I can understand wanting to go slower in the rain, but if you want to go super slow, perhaps the left lane isn't the place to be. See that absence of a car in front of you? It stretches for miles. See everyone passing on the right? Time to get over... and turn your lights on.

I need to have bumper stickers made:
The Big Three:
1) Lights on in the rain
2) Use your fucking blinkers
3) Left for passing; right for cruising

^why would a bumper sticker help? it's a state law and they still don't obey it.

you'd be surprised at how many people don't know the laws though. They should make everyone retake drivers ed

Also
4. Get your old ass off the road if you're gonna drive 20mph+ under the speed limit.

i was on the exit ramp off of 64, turning left onto 55 (two lanes for going left, one for right)

an older gentleman in a smart car decides to turn right to go down the exit ramp i'm on. people start honking their horns at him trying to warn/stop him, but he presses on, going the wrong way down the ramp. fortunately, no one else was coming up the ramp and his car was easily able to turn around.

but to top it all off, he didn't have his lights on in the rain

One way to raise awareness is to start issuing tickets. They have awareness months/checkpoints for:

Click it or ticket
Booze it and lose it

It's time for a:
Wipers flappin'? Lights on or face a huge fine.

50 cent could make it rhyme.

Can't really expect people to follow a law that is never enforced. They either won't know it exists or they won't care.

Did they change the law? I could have sworn that it was turn on your lights when you are using windshield wipers. I know it's nitpicky, but still.

A lot of people don't even notice if you flash your lights at them. As far as I could see in the rear view, their running lights didn't turn on.

I leave early enough where people have to use their lights whether it's raining or not, but I might as well bump the thread for today and belly ache about what I always have to deal with when it rains.

If you are so terrified of driving in the rain you feel the need to drive on a highway 15 mph or more under the posted speed limit then:

1) Perhaps you should just stay at home when it rains.
2) Map a new route that keeps you off the highways, preferably through school zones. That way you can drive at your comfortable 35mph
3) STAY OUT OF THE FAR LEFT LANE.

It's understandable to drive slower when it starts to rain hard enough to limit visibility. A light rain does not limit visibility. No one is in front of you. Go.

That is all.

and another thing:
Don't make a U-turn from the right lane when I'm right next to you in the left lane.
Because that fucker almost hit the shit out of my car.

In fact, just never make a U-turn from the right lane anyway. Seriously. What the fuck could that dude possibly have been thinking?

my headlights turn on automatically as it gets darker
my windshield wipers turn on automatically when there's moisture on the glass

but my headlights do not turn on automatically when the windshield wipers do...what's up with that?

and no, it's not always dark enough outside when it's raining to trigger the headlights

So it's basically going to rain every day this week? Yeah, just keep your headlights on the entire week... and stay in the right lane.

this morning's commute was interesting... my windshield wipers still don't work (have to get them fixed but it will be free due to a recall!)

I still drove better than most of the people on 540.

Drizzle, too, motherfuckers.

And fog.

In the mtns this past weekend on the parkway, with visibility well under 20' (15', if I was lucky, and ~6-8' at one point), I saw at least two silver vehicles driving without headlights. Once at dusk.

aha
I avoid talking on the phone while driving b/c I drive slow anyways, and I would hate for someone to assume I'm driving slow because I am on the phone.

but today, I was totally cockblocking someone for a good mile and a half...I might have hung up and/or sped up to accommodate them, but they did not have their lights on.

The January 2010 issue (p. 72) of Car & Driver magazine has named Raleigh to its “10 Best Drivers’ Cities in America” list.

How can Raleigh possibly be on that list when 1" of snow can shut down the beltline?
