....sounds like a personal problem.

I was playing it in the dark for 2 hours. Not scary.

But that's probably because I'm a fucked-up person.

Hey shrike......looks like 2k hears ya. This is actually pretty cool of them to address this so quickly.

Before most of you have even welcomed your BioShock Limited Editions into your loving bosoms, 2K Games is warning that the Big Daddy figurine contained within might just be busted.

Luckily, 2K says that they're already on the issue and will have a replacement plan set up soon. While new Big Daddies are being churned out, those with broken figures are going to receive a printed edition of the BioShock art book, "Breaking the Mold." Oh, and 2K's picking up the shipping cost too. While it's an unfortunate circumstance, we're glad to see that 2K is doing the right thing. ... Now about that widescreen issue.

the scariest part of the demo to me was when you run up the stairs from the water and hear the dripping on the stairs...im also factoring in when i went up to the lady with the baby carriage and gave her the benefit of the doubt of not being evil...etc

The only scary part is when that mask-wearing houdini splicer pops up right behind you while you're inspecting the desk.

AND WHO ELSE IS REALLY REALLY TIRED OF PLAYING WITH PIPES

Playing in the dark with a good stereo system turned up makes this game creepy as hell. Sound effects and music in this game are fucking great.

Who's playing the PC version? Do you get to use the mouse to manipulate the tiles?

If so, PC > 360

^^Yeah, you just click and drag tiles around. The water also moves a bit faster to compensate.

I'm saving the little girls, too.

I'm playing the first time through in front of my wife so she can see the storyline. She wouldn't let me kill the girls

Played the demo for the first time this morning. I admit this whole game almost passed by me. I had no idea that something this massive was in development.

Anyway loved the story, the physics, and the gameplay.

Oh yea and from some of the earlier postings I saw, go with IGN if you are going to join a online gaming site.

If only for the insider message boards.

Note to people who are going for the PC version of this game, make sure you have a quality power supply

Quote :
"I was about 15 minutes into it, having very much enjoyed what I had seen so far, when I came upon the first Big Daddy encounter. I watch in rapt attention as he charges a splicer when suddenly BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM. It sounds as though a string of firecrackers has been detonated in my computer case, as well as each BOOM being punctuated with a bright blue flash coming through the case window.

For about half a second I sit there stunned. The first thought in my mind is "Holy Fucking Shit, that is the greatest effect I've ever seen. They should have given this game an 11." Immediately following this a sickening realization dawns on me as I look over at my tower. Blue Smoke! The magic blue smoke that makes electronics work is escaping from my PC."

Scary moment #2:

In Poseidon's Plaza, behind the blocked door. After cracking the safe.

"Hmmm... was that statue there a minute ago? AHHHH!1"

mind the spoilers!

btw, the 360 version of the pipe game works really well. It's way more frantic than i thought.

I really love this game so far. Taking my time to soak in the game first time through...plus it's on hard so i'm moving slower.

Actually bought this game for pc yesterday through steam.com. Downloaded in under an hour, and i've been playing it since then. Looks amazing maxed out at 1920 by 1200. The water effects are awesome too.

Man I am fucking spoiled.

Basically, the only FPS's I have played in the last 3-4 years or so have been big name things like halflife, FEAR, and other major titles.

I laugh at some of the graphics in this thing.

but so far, its alright

anyone else finding big daddies tough at first? jesus christ man they take an assload of hits, and my shit feels really ineffective on them. guns feel weak on em, plasmids dont hurt em too much.

I really noticed the lack of anti-aliasing in the first area before the bathysphere

but once I got into the action, I stopped noticing the defects in the graphics.

I'm on the 3rd (?) level now, the one at the fishing place, and I've killed about 4 Big Daddies so far.

I've found the machine gun to be pretty effective, as well as hiding behind walls or posts and popping out to shoot, Gears of War-style. Also when you get the grenade launcher its pretty damn effective too.

Those motherfucking cocksuckers.

I just checked the order status of bioshock, fucking cancelled. Called them up "I'm terribly sorry, but there is nothing we can do. We can't send you bioshock when it comes into stock, and we can't send you another game either. I hope the rest of your night goes better. "

I wouldn't have bought madden if I wasn't going to get another game for 50% off.

Remind me to vandalize the next toys r us I see.

Hmmmm, I missed this the other day, apparently there is something in a config file that hints to a future PS3 version of this game.

http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/bioshock-ps3-rumor-rekindled-by-code-291944.php

Also, Ken Levine responded to the widescreen issue just like I thought. He said the game was developed from the ground up with a widescreen FOV, and they only added some verticle view for the 4:3 version.

Finally, for PC users, make sure if you want to reinstall the game on a different machine or on your own machine, to run the uninstaller first. If you don't, it'll only let you activate it 2 times before you're locked out.

I beat it last night. The game has at least two possible endings, depending on what you do to the girls. I'm starting a new game all kill, then I'll try to see if 50/50 gives me a different result.

As far as killing big daddies goes, the steel-tip or incendiary arrows are by far the best way I've found so far. They go down pretty easily on medium, and on easy they're a joke. An upgraded xbow and incendiary arrows will take one down in two hits.

I could be wrong, though.

I replayed a lot of it to recap the storyline for the wife, so I can't remember how much of the many many hours of play tuesday and wednesday were original and how many were replays.

Also, I ran through the last two levels as quickly as possible because I just wanted to see the end.

OK I must have not been paying attention when they told me how to do this, but how do you change the plasmids you have currently equipped? Right now I have shock and telekinesis, I need to get fire back.

you have to go to a 'gene bank' machine, they're located all around, usually near the Gatherer's Garden ones where you buy new plasmids

I think they're green, not sure. I don't know about the icon but I just finished the 3rd level (The Fishery place) and remember seeing at least 2-3 of them there, so there not too hard to find.

Anyone know how you get the research achievements? I've taken pictures of just about everyone and gotten A's but I haven't unlocked any achievements except the inital achievement you get for taking a good picture.

I'm taking my time through this game, making sure I don't miss anything. Also, I'm not using vita-chambers, I just reload from my last save every time I die. It's a lame mechanic and cheapens some of the more intense fights in a game.

Honestly though, there is no exaggeration in the reviews of this game. My expectations of a video game have been changed, the bar has been raised. It's essentially Half-Life all over again.
