I didn't say that. I merely said that LA does have hate crime laws. The fact that he "couldn't find one" makes him seem a little ridiculous, now doesn't it?

I also never said that. And you still fuck up then/than and except/accept all the goddamn time but I don't rail you on it. I'm nice like that.

WELL HE IS INCOMPETENT IF HE CAN'T FIND LAWS IN PLACE IN HIS OWN STATE
If he was indirectly saying he didn't have the required evidence, it should've stated it a different way.

The nooses were not hung in the tree while some black kids were sitting under it. They were found in the tree the next morning after being hung there the previous night. 9/20/2007 4:29:36 PM |

^^I just wait for the 48 or 49 when I'm looking at chit chat
I'm guessing that fuschia was looking at this law:
Quote : | "La. R.S. 14:225 Criminalizes knowingly vandalizing, defacing, or otherwise damaging places used for religious worship, schools, or community centers. >> More information " |
Quote : | "§225. Institutional vandalism
A. A person commits the crime of institutional vandalism by knowingly vandalizing, defacing, or otherwise damaging the following:
(1) Any church, synagogue, or other building, structure, or place used for religious worship or other religious purpose.
(2) Any cemetery, mortuary, or other facility used for the purpose of burial or memorializing the dead.
(3) Any school, educational facility, or community center.
(4) The grounds adjacent to and owned or rented by any institution, facility, building, structure, or place described in Paragraphs (1), (2) or (3) above.
(5) Any personal property contained in any institution, facility, building, structure, or place described in Paragraphs (1), (2), or (3) above.
(6) Any building owned by the United States, state of Louisiana, or a political subdivision of this state.
B. Institutional vandalism is punishable as follows:
(1) When the damage is less than five hundred dollars, the offender shall be fined not more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both.
(2) When the damage amounts to five hundred dollars but less than fifty thousand dollars, the offender shall be fined not more than one thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not more than two years or both.
(3) When the damage amounts to fifty thousand dollars or more, the offender shall be fined not more than ten thousand dollars, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not less than one nor more than ten years, or both.
C. In determining the amount of damage to or loss of property, damage includes the cost of repair or replacement of the property that was damaged or lost.
Acts 1984, No. 583, §1. " |
However, it can't be tried as hate crime since they did not vandalize public property...by which I mean destroy according to the document's definition. Maybe terp can verify.9/20/2007 4:31:54 PM |

If they just wanted to do a "hate crime" Then wouldn't it have made more sense to hang some nooses over near the bleachers where the majority of the black students sat? If anything, the blacks could have hung the nooses in the trees to intimidate the whites. 9/20/2007 4:32:33 PM |
StillFuchsia All American 18941 Posts user info edit post |
^ No, they MOVED to the tree THAT VERY DAY, so the majority of them weren't at the bleachers anymore, they were at the tree instead.
Quote : | "so now you know where the black kids were PLANNING on eating their lunch.
you DO know it all" |
Did you not read that they asked the principal if they could sit there for lunch? They sat there that day, then the nooses came that night. Apparently whities wanted their tree back.

School grounds count as public property, but I'm not sure what counts as vandalism in LA.

you probably know... were there any other trees at that school available?
and if there were... why did the kids want to go over to the "white tree?"
could it be that they wanted to cause problems?

i did notice some black folks wearing black outfits at the Safeway deli, when I was picking up my 2pc fried chicken meal for lunch.
i tried to catch their eye and give them the "solidarity" nod, but they didnt really look at me.

NOT
"omg, the racist people were just out to get you b.c u were white."
You'd think people in the 21st century would be more tolerant. That still does not excuse the fact that the minority students knew that many members in of the white community were racist and choose to stir-up the hornets nest by sitting under the tree 9/20/2007 4:45:34 PM |

So you're saying that's it's much better if blacks accept their inferiority in that situation? That it's better to get along with all those Mr. Racists than to sit somewhere else for lunch to point out that they don't own the whole goddamn school?
I've never heard a better set of reasoning for racism in my life! Hey everyone, let's go back to slavery!

No they should not have made an issue out if it. If they wanted to sit "under" the tree; then GO sit under the tree. If any other student (white) or otherwise harasses, threatens, or attacks you then go to the proper authorities and let them handle it. Addressing the administration about the tree and then having a "all black students sit under the tree to protest" is making an issue out if sitting under the tree
