Johnson was eligible tonight.

Davidson is a good team, their strength of schedule is ridiculous. Sure they are not UNC:CH or Duke, but they are probably better than VT, Wake, Maryland, or GT.

They also lost to both Western Michigan and Charlotte by seven but lets just ignore that since they did in fact LOSE to unc duke and ucla.

Since when is Charlotte a terrible team?

I still maintain that Davidson is better than at least 1/3 of the ACC.

Charlotte is a decent team. They beat Wake Forest. Don't know about Western Michigan, but I do remember that it was at WMU and it was early in the season.

Let's see some of the teams that our ACC brethren have lost to.

Maryland lost to Ohio
Virginia Tech lost to Penn State and Old Dominion
Georgia Tech lost to UNC-G
Wake Forest lost horribly to Georgia
Boston College lost to UMass a team that they should have beat based on talent disparity
Florida State lost to USF and Cleveland State of all teams

It's not uncommon for teams to lose to inferior opponents early in the season. Just look at Oregon losing at Nebraska and St. Mary's.

Ted Valentine for you. The officiating was terrible both ways, although I thought they favored Davidson in the last few minutes. We got hacked underneath a few times hard with no call. Ben was having an off night, but he's never missed that many layups in a game w/out getting fouled.

The only one that made me furious was right before Gavin got fouled, Ben goes up for the shot and the defender gets all body...even though his hands were straight up. He jumped into Ben while Ben was fading away. I almost lost my shit then they called the foul for Gavin. Thank God.

i would love to start the tradition of getting every person observant enough to yell "Valentine sucks" each time he walks onto the court

Pretty simple. Make some cheer sheets before hand, especially if you know Ted Valentine is doing the game. Who's the other crappy ref that we are guaranteed to see a couple of times every year? The only name that's coming to me is Rose, but that doesn't sound like it.

I've always liked the "ref you suck" chant followed by "you still suck".

Yet, our two biggest wins have basically come because the ref made a call for us at the end of a game.

I implied nothing about whether or not the call was bad.

The refs made 2 big calls for us that don't usually make. If you've watched any ncsu basketball ever, you know we don't want to be in a position where we are relying on refs to help us out.

it wasn't a call for us; it was the right call to make, and it happened to benefit us. we'd have gotten royally screwed had they not called the foul there. guy doesn't foul gavin, maybe he makes the shot, who knows. but he did foul him, it was obvious, and they made the right call.

Regardless of whether they were right or not, the calls at the end of the Nova game and tonight are the kind of thing that don't get called more than half the time.

See the end of our game against Washington three years ago for a glaring example.

a welcome change from the Herb era. he couldn't get the refs to remember his name. diplomacy is key. Coach K is a master of this.

"Umm we held him to 6 points the last 17 minutes there buddy. Did you watch this game or just look at the boxscore? Not to mention the kid is averaging 24 points a game, 29 points isn't that much of a stretch. Thanks for playing though."

An absolute moronic post. This Curry kid is the only kid that showed up for them from the tip off, yet we still allow him to go for 29 without ever forcing him to get rid of the ball or denying him the ball to begin with or making another man beat us? Is he good, yea, is also lucky to be 6 feet, yes, no way he should light us up. He had plenty of open looks in the second half that just didn't drop to refute your whole 6 points in 17 minutes, absolutely nothing we did to brag about. I can assure you, I've been to more NC state games than you've watched over the last 20 years but I'll keep "playing though"

I don't see how someone's opinion about the number of open looks he had does anything to refute the fact that he was held to 6 pts (2 shots) in the last 17 minutes.

And I apologize if you feel like I insulted you or something. You seem angry. But I don't agree with attacking the coaching when he made the proper adjustments to stop Curry in the second half.

Curry said in his post-game that our D wore him down. I watched that little fucker all night and the only player I've seen run off more screens was Redick and thats a stretch. Fells had a hell of an assignment. The difference between Curry and JJ is that he's fast, he has a quicker release, and he can create his own shot at will. Most of the 3's he made were from at least 2 feet behind the line with catch and shoot plays. We played good D on him until gavin turned his back on him when he made that last 3.

And Gavin got hammered. McCauley got hammered and they didnt call it. McCauley got hammered every time he went down low and they didnt call it. You cant say thats a call that they shouldn't make because it clearly affected the shots. They blow the whistle during the game when they THINK someone got hit, why not blow it at the end when its obvious???

I'll admit that the foul in the Nova game was questionable, but the one last night was NOT.

What good could possibly come from students telling a ref that he sucks?

yeah seriously. i can see booing a call. but having a chant planned for a specific ref ahead of time just seems to be asking for trouble.

If that last shot goes, everyone would be singing a different tune about Lowe's "adjustments." Curry received the ball at the top of the key, we didn't even force him to go all the way to the baseline to receive the inbound man, inexplicable to me, even in the Nova game with .04 we about gave it away.

I understand how Redick got open, with Williams in the paint and numerous other weapons to draw attention. The fact that another guy scores 14 on us from Davidson doesn't tell me he's good offensively, it tells me that we didnt' play good defense, scoring layups as they did is a result of us not getting back. I'm just under the impression that in college hoops, when playing a one man show, especially when he's a guard (and not dominating the paint), unless kobe or Jordan, it shouldn't be that difficult to win. UNC, Duke, and UCLA also love to run, and while Davdson doesn't have the horses these teams have, they can run, and we slowed the game down, as we always do, and he still put 29 on us. bottom line, if he hits that last shot, the coaching would be a lot more in question off of one measily shot. If davidson'd other players had shot the ball half as well as their season %, it's not even close. And no, our defense wasn't lockdown or anything of the sort, don't care what the postgame comments were, saw that I saw

davidson now officially ranks last of all teams in the ncaa in pomeroy's "luck" factor.

(it is defined as the descrepancy between the winning percentage and the expected winning percentage)

Highlights of the game:

-seeing bill cowher as I walked into the arena
-Courtney Fells' re-dunkulous break-away throwdown
-watching Curry play was awesome, kid's got mad game

glad to get a win, hopefully we can keep that same intensity and effort up for the rest of the season.
