I felt that way for a long time as well... always having to go to shows with my guy friends bc none of my girlfriends were into "loud" stuff (as they would say).

As of recent, I have met some rad chicks and through them, I have met more!! SOooo now I have girlfriends to go to shows with.

Suffocation is quite possibly my favorite death metal band ever. When it comes to uncompromising brutality, there really is no other. Mike Smith (drummer) is my fucking hero.

It's mostly uplifting lyrics.. their songs usually start out sounding halfway generic then they sing about overcoming the emo shit. I dunno, kinda tough to explain, but good.

This is where i start talking about my favorite band. Opeth


Opeth - Baying of the Hounds

Basically this song is a cross between the literal concept - he kills his mother, runs from hounds, hides in a swamp, discovers himself in a forest... blah blah blah. But it can also be read as the hounds being the voice of his darker side coming forth as he struggles with his darker and lighter conscience.

Most other opeth songs are actually love songs more or less. Theres a CD about an athiest falling in love with some girl in a christian society then they elope and he gets hung and starts hallucinating before he dies.

Arsis is fucking amazing. At least until their last cd which to me is like a less coherent watered down necrophagist. Still Life is an amazing cd. The hallucinations i mentioned were the beginning of White Cluster, my favorite opeth song. Their natural imagery (use of seasons and shit like that) is so astounding to me.

i mean there are some incredible songs and riffs but it just doesn't hold together like the old band for me.

mostly its just that the drumming seems SO random. theres rarely a standard beat for a full 4 bars.
