Well yeah, any Ghostbusters fan is going to be seeing this. It looks like they are relying too much on nostalgia though. Which I guess is the norm for these remakes. I just feel like its going to be forgettable. 3/3/2016 10:15:35 AM |

They are just trying too hard to be the original cast. Looks like the one with the glasses is the only one that is actually trying to be original here in that she's got a sense of humor vs. Egon's very serious and logical approach to everything. Ray gets slimed again. Winston is the relatable/non-scientist again. Venkman is the silly guy again (although Melissa McCarthy seems to be making it way more slapstick than Murray ever did, so not nearly as witty). 3/3/2016 10:37:09 AM |

^^every single joke in the trailer was just a rehashed version of jokes and gags I've seen a thousand times in other movies and tv. It looks like it's a well made movie, with good production value, but from that trailer it appears that story and comedy-wise, it offers up nothing new

The trailer looks like they took Ghosbusters, sucked all of the humor out of it, and then force it to have a threesome with Scary Movie 3(bad jokes) and the Scooby-Doo movie(bad ghost special effects). This trailer is the bastard son of that unholy trinity.
This movie is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions. 3/3/2016 1:58:23 PM |

^Practical effects in general look way better when done right. I'm still yet to see CGI in a movie that looks better than properly done practical effects. That's why lots of movies from the 70s/80s still hold up today (Jaws, The Thing, etc.) but films with heavy use of CGI can look dated. 3/3/2016 1:59:07 PM |

Trailer is awful, but I don't have a problem with the CGI. That demon hound in the original was 10x worse than anything in the trailer. Gotta love the black character is the street-smart, non-scientist who loves Cadillacs. 3/3/2016 6:33:45 PM |

Well, yeah. We're talking about a 30+ year old movie. Based on the trailer the CGI ghosts look way too cartoony and in line with that awful Scooby Doo movie.

Yup, pretty fucking trite and a bit insulting. When you're clearly going for social brownie points by going with female leads it's pretty absurd that you go full vaudeville with your minority lead. I'm surprised they didn't have her working at a Popeye's instead of the transit authority. Way to break away from traditional casting, Sony.
Like I said, it just looks schlocky.3/3/2016 7:27:00 PM |

Very meh. If they were going to go with a straight up reboot I wish they'd tried to do things differently. Instead it is the same packs, same uniforms, similar Ecto-1, similar back stories for the characters, etc. 3/3/2016 11:22:08 PM |

I'm not sure there's a ton of fault to be found in casting Leslie Jones to play Leslie Jones. There are three good scenes in Top Five, and she steals one of them by doing the same stuff. 3/4/2016 12:16:42 AM |

This is just bad. First off, let's look at the plot.
Quote : | "-"We can really help people!" ... -"Someone is creating a device that is attracting spirits. Only we can stop them!"" |
This is the most derivative, common-denominator movie plot. Are they even trying? The original movie was about a bunch of scientists entering the private sector and making money! Don't just make them heroes to start.
Then the characters just describe everything via explicit narration. Come on now, its "Show, Don't Tell". Isn't that Directing 101? Oh, they are scientists and you are the street smart one so they need you? You don't say?
Speaking of which, their ability to make a black character in this movie portrayed more stereo-typically and regressive than a character created in a movie from the 80s just amazes me.
They are going for Scooby-Doo live-action slapstick comedy in this movie whereas the original was dry humor with quite a bit of horror added as well. Speaking of the live action Scooby-Doo movie, they are basically going to Scrappy-Doo this villain. Hmm, Bill Murray is in the movie, and he might play Venkman? Oh, and there is some unnamed villain with paranormal knowledge who is amplifying a signal to attract ghosts? And they didn't reveal this villain even though they spelled everything else out in the movie? I WONDER WHO IT COULD BE?
Sadly, there was only one thing I liked from the trailer, and I will get a lot of flack for it. Liam Hemsworth. Him being the secretary is totally out of character and completely ironic. This is humor in-line with the original movie. Think about that. In a movie which caused controversy for swapping out the male leads for female leads, the best part is the casting choice for a male supporting character.

I'm not finding fault with them casting Lesie Jones to play Leslie Jones as you put it so much as maybe they could've just not gone with that whole character trope in the first place. But I'm also basing that on an initial trailer and have no idea what her character will actually be like in the film. Not a great first impression though.3/4/2016 10:14:35 AM |

that's chris hemsworth yo. it's thor, with glasses. i got a different vibe from that choice. they were certainly trying to be ironic with the gender of the secretary but it has very little to do with the original; jeanine (sp?) was just a regular new york woman. i'd compare that to them making an all male ghostbusters movie but casting kate upton as the "nerdy" secretary.
i also find it really stupid of them to make leslie jones play that heavily into the "big angry black woman" stereotype. #oscarsSoWhite should have been enough to make them reconsider at least. in the originals winston was supposed to be a much more prevalent character with a cool background (air force, demolitions) http://www.ew.com/article/2014/11/05/ghostbusters-ernie-hudson. this wasn't a racially motivated change, maybe -- they'd planned to have eddie murphy and then wanted more screen time with bill murray -- but they could have at least done the token black guy woman role a little better this time.

vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
The other thing to consider is that the filmmakers don't cut the trailer. For all we know, Leslie Jones spends the entire film subverting her tropes, but that's hard to show in a trailer so it was cut to the cliche. Have you ever seen the trailers for Rushmore? They basically have nothing to do with the actual film. 3/4/2016 1:57:38 PM |

^ i don't wanna go that far, but yeah, doesn't seem likely that they cut a trailer that looks like it reinforces stereotypes and/or character tropes only so they can be torn down in the actual movie. i just don't know why you'd want to come out of the gates giving people a negative impression like that if you're the people who cut and approve the trailer. maybe it's more common than i realize. does a director really have no input on that?
just kinda feels like the old "whatever. you'll pay to go see it. fuck you." thing from south park
