Interview with Damon Lindelof - January 2005

Quote :
"Lindelof said that a DVD set of the first season will come out this summer, before a second season begins in the fall. As the show progresses, he added, it won't venture too far into science fiction as its mysteries unfold. "We're still trying to be ... firmly ensconced in the world of science fact," he said in an interview. "I don't think we've shown anything on the show yet ... that has no rational explanation in the real world that we all function within. We certainly hint at psychic phenomena, happenstance and ... things being in a place where they probably shouldn't be. But nothing is flat-out impossible. There are no spaceships. There isn't any time travel." "

really, he was in the army in WW2? if he was 18 in 1945 that would make him 77, and the guy didn't look that old. I recall him saying that he heard the numbers in a certain place in australia and thats why hurley went there. are we sure that the guy in the hospital was stationed there in ww2?

Alvar Hanso did weapons running in the 40s so this could be associated with him. They could be his men.

I was mistaken, both Lenny and Sam were in the Navy in a South Pacific listening post, but it didn't mention anything about WWII.

the time jumping stuff still confuses me (duh)

Supposedly, you can't change the past, according to Faraday... Unless you are desmond for some special reason...

However, Locke just killed a guy with a knife. How is that not changing the past? They were in the past, right?

it's just that he can tell desmond something in the past, and he'll remember it in the future (because he's unstuck)

i respectfully disagree.

i think anything that they do in the past, has always (and already) happened in the past, so Faraday knew that Sawyer banging on the door wouldn't do anything, because Desmond had never met Sawyer before.

i really expected there to be more action on this. my question is how did penny know he was lying to her. is he that obvious to her or does she know something specifically about faraday/faraday's mother. it was said that faraday's mom was in LA so maybe she is ms. hawking who ben sought out. seems strange that she would be aligned with both sides, though.

to the secret is out as to widmore, but i'm really interested in seeing how that story develops.

do we really have any proof that locke is their leader? didn't ben say at some point that he too would be replaced? ben wasn't chosen by the item test and led until locke so maybe someone else is the actual leader. locke never passed the item test.

once again "you can't change the past"

yeah

it seems like they're the only two people they've really had many conversations with over the last three years, plus they've been in love with each other for like a decade now

i don't think it has to be as ominous as you're making it out to be

"so now we know why richard goes to visit locke as a child...b/c he told him too... hmm...but he chooses the wrong item...."

yeah - it sounds like at that point Richard maybe still isn't aware of the power of the island. He goes to see child John Locke and is confused/befuddled when Locke does not pick the compass, which "is his item".

Quote :
"my question is how did penny know he was lying to her."

no mystery there. they know each other, and lovers/spouses can just tell when one is lying. nothing supernatural.

---

and yeah - no doubt at this point that Ms. Hawkings is Dan's mother.

---

so, is the H-Bomb the source of power on the island? Do they bury it, then later use it for power?
There still must be some other physical feature of the island where power and stuff are coming fromt.

btw, i always hate the way TV and movies portray nuclear weapons as delicate, fragile pieces of art. You could bang on the, shoot them with rifles, blow them up with dynamite and it wouldn't make a bit of difference with the nuclear reaction

i would suspect her grandfather would be older than widmore's age in 1954. The guy locke killed didn't look that old, but i imagine if he was supposed to have a child very young and her father then had a child very young it could be possible.

thats fine, thats why i said "respectfully disagree," i'm not trying to get in some big fight with you like IRSeriousCat did last couple pages (not saying you are trying to either), just throwing out my two cents

also, i wanna know how Faraday knows the blonde other girl (or who she becomes in the future that he knows)

note: i won't put as much certainty on this one as i did as do with locke's knife inadvertently killing charlotte, but that girl could easily have been charlotte's grandmum, and thats why he thought she looked a lot like her

related - does anyone know how old charlotte is supposed to be?
