hahaha this is awesome:

Quote :
"The Arkansas State Red Wolves are off to a pretty good start. In their season opener they upset Texas A&M at Kyle Field, and they routed Texas Southern last weekend to improve to 2-0 on the season. It's because of this that Red Wolves fever is breaking out all over the state of Arkansas (may not actually be true, could just be the clap), but that fever could put one man out of business.

Hoppy Hoffman, who has one of the greatest names ever, also owns a store called The Design Shoppe in Jonesboro Arkansas, and he was running a promotion this season. For every Red Wolves victory in a home game, Hoffman would take 1% off of the price for Arkansas State apparel for every point the team won by on the following Monday. If they win by 10 points, fans get 10% off.

Unfortunately for Hoffman, he had no idea that Arkansas State was going to be beating Texas Southern by 73 points on Saturday.

"It got crazy. We opened at 9:30. The people who probably got in line by 10 checked out about 1:30," he said. "When the door opened at 9:30, I know at least 200 people filed in. It was hilarious. ... It looked like they were waiting to buy rock concert tickets.

"I think I'm going to go to practice one day and have a chat with my team," Hoffman said. "Beat 'em, but don't run it up on me that bad any more."

Hoppy then asked the reporter for $20 so he could afford dinner and a cab ride home. No news on whether the reporter gave it to him."

USF is playing a BCS Bowl winner who got pretty much everyone back and handling them. Wouldn't that mean they will likely bury us?

The full name of the song is "Talkin' Out the Side of Your Neck" by Cameo, a funk group from the 1970s. It's very popular amongst HBCU's and has been sampled in some rap songs. I've always liked when the HBCU bands used it to basically send a message when opposing bands would try and chant something at them. At the HBCUs the bands are the reason why people come to the game. No joke. I've been to a good many games at HBCUs and for the most part the fans don't care too much about the football game. I mean I guess the alums do to some extent, but it's nowhere near the level that it is at State, and certainly not that of a football powerhouse like LSU. The schools always have their bands travel to away games, and the bands "battle". The battle starts before the game, then goes on to halftime where it really picks up, and then by the time the fourth quarter rolls around it's an all out slugfest with the bands trading their best, most powerful, and technically hard songs. They will sometimes even continue battling well after the game is over. Most of the HBCU bands know 40 songs and sometimes up to 80 or so songs. It's like they are a radio there to entertain the crowd. There's none of this "hey let's learn at most 15 songs (including the fight song and alma mater) and play them over and over again throughout the season" crap.

This is actually a shitty slot for this game.

This is one of the better, more important games of the weekend (in fact I think it's one of only two games between ranked opponents) and it's stuck on a time when no one is watching...

This could/should have been an ABC 3:30 game...

^ how do you know all this stuff??? I'm always amazed at the tidbits you pull out...

In high school I was in the band. My band was predominantly black. I was one of like 5 white people in a 125-175 person marching band (numbers varied through the years, for example my freshman year we had 50 clarinets ), even though the school's demographics were 53% black and 38% white, and the rest either Asian or Indian. The school was in a ghetto side of town, and actually the only reason why it was 53% black was b/c the school was a magnet school that bused in students from all over the county and those kids that where within a 5 mile radius of the school could go there b/c it was their "home" school. We did high step and visited numerous HBCUs for their homecomings and parades.

This is a really good game. It should have definitely been played on Saturday as one of the premier nationally televised games.

Oh crap I guess that interception just put USF in the driver's seat to win the game on a field goal. I thought this game was definitely going to go to overtime.

One they have a good coach. Two they play in an NFL stadium which appeals to some players. And three they are in the most talent rich state for football in the nation. Their scraps that they get from those that can't go or are not recruited by the big three (UF, FSU, UM) are a ton better than the scraps that ECU gets from UNC and NCSU. ECU is doing well this year b/c they have a great coach and they are very experienced. ECU might not see a year like they presumably will throughout the rest of the season for a good many years. Also compare their QB, Grothe, to what we've had lately. There's no comparison. QB is the most important position on the field. As your QB goes, so does your team.

Ha. I thought about this during our W&M game. According to the radio, Coke promised $500 for every NCSU touchdown for our home games this season. They probably only budgeted $2K for the entire season and now they're in trouble. Of course we'll have to score another touchdown at home this season before they go into the red.
