I'm not a big fan of ever rushing the field or court. I was at the UNC game at NC State basketball when we beat them and all the students ran on the court. I stood and cheered but I think it just makes it look like you don't think your teams very good. If it was a game that locked up an ACC championship over a good team then maybe I'd say its a good idea. I do care about this game, I don't want to lose to ECU, but it's not like I'm going to be shocked and overcome with emotion if State does win. 9/17/2008 3:11:27 PM |

^^I think that's the attitude that most state fans have, which is a normal one. Only idiots act like ECU is beneath them during years such as this. 2004? Yes, ECU was beneath you and I could see how you wouldn't want to play them.

that's the point. the fact that we're going into a game against east carolina and have very little chance of winning is embarrassing.

I think what you're saying is that your TEAM is embarrassing. Yes, I agree with that. If you're a real fan, though, you recognize that you could gain some momentum from beating a ranked team and possibly turn your season around. I don't know, kinda like what happened last year maybe? 9/17/2008 3:51:44 PM |

I don't think this fact is that embarassing. Schools have periods of success and schools have periods where they aren't quite so successful. ECU is currently in the former, and we are currently in the latter. Hell, Duke is 2-1. Big deal. We won't be a 3-9 team forever and ECU won't be a top 15 team forever. That's just how it is right now. Go to the game, cheer on the team, have a good time. But don't get all high-and-mighty because you think it's wrong that ECU is favored.9/17/2008 4:08:35 PM |

Even perrenial powers go through times of extreme mediocrity (Nebraska & Miami for example) because of coaching changes, injuries to key players, the NFL draft, etc.
ebb and flow of college football

because i think if we had barely lost to south carolina and clemson instead of getting blown out, people would be more optimistic about our team (about our offense)...but we'd still be 1-2...even though some so called experts would be giving us a better chance this weekend9/17/2008 4:14:03 PM |

we're not exactly in a down swing to a recent up. we've poured money into this program and are still terrible. ecu plays in cusa in a stadium that's 2/3 the size of ours, and has done what we simply cannot do.
that is embarrassing.
i really don't know how you want me to explain this. 9/17/2008 4:16:43 PM |

amato wasn't a very good head coach, skip holtz is (better than amato anyway). and perhaps they have some talented guys at ECU. facilities are great, but good coaching is invaluable.
and like tailstock said, ebb and flow.
the size of your stadium does not a football team make.

how many players that couldnt make it at an ACC school that had to go elsewhere?
and lots of times just plain guys that develop out of no where who werent highly touted in high school.
but they have a LOT of room when it comes to academics and qualifications compared to State thats for sure. 9/17/2008 4:19:47 PM |

I always hear this, but then I look at teams like Miami and FSU, and I wonder how all those dudes get into ANY school let alone one where the conference supposedly has these crazy academic standards9/17/2008 4:53:53 PM |

i have zero expectations for the team this year. however, it is EMBARRASSING how bad we've been post-rivers, and even really looking back it's embarrassing how poorly we finished even w/ jesus h. rivers.

It is a rivalry game just because of the proximity. I would liken it to UNC-ch's basketball rivalries with us and Duke. UNC/Duke is the "main" rivalry, while UNC/State is the secondary one. Where in football State/UNC is the "main" rivalry and State/ECU is the secondary one. Although I don't think I would be offbase in saying that UNC fans take waaay more pleasure in beating us in basketball than we do beating ECU in football. So in that respect it's not an entirely fair comparison.
UNC fans try to play the "you're not our rival" card in basketball the same way some State fans play it regarding ECU in football. It's just something people say to piss the other fans off. From personal experience though my reactions to losing and winning against either team in football go something like this:
UNC Win: Woooo! This is fucking awesome! Fuck those guys! Loss: Fuck this shit! Fuck those guys!
ECU Win: cool, we won. Loss: eh, whatever. 9/18/2008 1:50:16 PM |
