I've always been reluctant to post this because of all the Animal Collective fan people on here, but they've never impressed me to a great extent. I don't hate it, but I mean, meh.

I agree, completely.

I understand they are amazing, and I am not denying that the music is really well-written and overall pretty rad. I, however, cannot bring myself to dig it as much as everyone else seems to. I've tried, but for some reason I can't hop aboard and ride their dick like everyone else.

yea i just think its hyped up too much, I thought some of the songs on the new album were super catchy no doubt but I cant dig it the same way some people do. I did still like it though. im going to give some of their older stuff a try too that I havent heard before.

But put it this way, there is no way in hell it is a 9.6 and Frances the mute was a 2 ...but thats more of Pitchfork just being one of the worst and most biased music review sites ive run across

So... just got my hands on the new Franz Ferdinand album (I actually waited and bought the CD ).

Totally reminded me why I fucking love the band. Didn't like it quite as much as some of their past work, but still amazing.

holy shit, Merriweather Post Pavilion debuted at #13 on the Billboard charts this week, while Bon Iver's "Blood Bank" came in at #16 ... Andrew Bird's boring ass new album sold even better, coming in at #12

^ I can understand that argument. I just like his stuff so much that I'm okay with it all generally following the same sound and structure. However, I agree that it'd be cool if he would change it up a bit

^^haha. its totally different but very good (in my opinion of course). To be honest, no matter how good any of the bands they are involved in after Beloved (dead poetic, classic case, solo stuff, advent etc.) I wont ever be able to say it is "beloved good" I dont think.

ill post this here for you even though i posted it another place. it makes me want to go back in time and go to some shows at the hart witzen art gallery or something

That Franz Ferdinand album is uber mediocre. Aside from a talented handful, the indie wave of the past five years is really starting to show its lack of depth. Seems like something has to give

I didn't particularly like it either. Send Him Away (the guitar and bass play well with each other) and Ulysses are the only decent tracks.

Sigur Rós: We Play Endlessly

- hxxp://rapidshare.com/files/192301586/Siggynew.rar

Quote :
""Sigur Ros will give away a CD titled We Play Endlessly in copies of U.K. newspaper The Independent on Saturday (31/01/2009). But non-subscribing or non-British Sigur Ros completists shouldn't get too hung up on not being able to get a copy, as there's no new music on the record.

The Icelandic band, in association with Britain's Q Magazine, compiled nine songs from last year's Með Suð I Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust, 2007's Hvarf/Heim, 2005's Takk... and 2004's Ba Ba Ti Ki Di Do EP for the promotional CD. The title is cheeky because Með Suð I Eyrum Við Spilum Endalaust means "With A Buzz In Our Ears, We Play Endlessly" in English

Ray Davies' Other People's Lives and Prince's Planet Earth have been inserted in British newspapers ahead of their retail on-sale date in the past few years. But Sigur Ros are following in the footsteps of David Bowie, who packaged previously released material for the iSelect: Bowie compilation that was included with copies of the U.K.'s The Mail On Sunday last year.""

The new Junior Boys is kinda disappointing. I'd see them live again but as an album the material felt kinda flat and underwhelming.

What's everyone's favorite off of Dark Was The Night? Yeasayer - Tightrope is mine. Sounds like Sufjan found a demo from the Enjoy Your Rabbit days to throw to this project. I'm listening to disk 2 today and it starts off great with that Spoon track.

I dig that new Appleseed Cast. It's a bit different, but awesome nonetheless. For some reason it seems a bit more shoegazey, if that makes any sense. I look forward to hearing a non-watermarked version.

And I've also been digging the new Bon Iver stuff. I managed to find some of Justin Vernon's early stuff and it is also damned good. His voice makes my dick hard.

I did see that the songs are credited to Realpeople so they aren't part of the Beirut canon exactly.

^ haha, very true.

After much delay I finally got around to listen to M83's Saturday=Youth after hearing so much buzz about it, and on first listen it just sounded like a Stars retread.

I'm going to give it a few more listens and I have heard other individual songs of theirs in the past that I really liked ["don't save us from the frames" and "safe"], but my first listen to this one wasn't very rewarding. I'm not giving up yet, though.

really good shit. best i've heard in quite a while.

i really like the minimal production. drums + vocals for the backing track.

nice, ill have to check that out at home.

In other news, mewithoutYou just announced the title of their new record and released the artwork.

It's All Crazy! It's All False, It's All a Dream. It's Alright

In this past this band has done nothing but amaze me with every album they have recorded, and Brother, Sister was nearly a perfect album and my top of 2006. But, with a a slight change to the lineup and a big change in sound im both excited but a little anxious about how this next (and possibly last) mwY record will sound.

Quote :
"The album is a departure from Weiss' trademark shouting and the band's raucous grooves. The mile-a-minute rants, rich with angst, are traded for more pop melodies usually pertaining to anthropomorphic vegetables and animals. In the same way the band has scaled back their edgier sounds, trading riffs for chords and guitars for pianos. The album was produced by Dan Smith (Danielson, Sufjan Stevens) and Brian McTear and is currently being mixed by Brad Wood."

I have faith that these guys will still put out a solid album but this sounds like a departure from the aspects that made them stand out to me in the first place. And I cant help but feel like their longtime writing guitarist leaving is the reason the album is taking a more folksy approach. I hope they put my skepticism to rest though when this thing comes out in May!
