you're quite welcome... most people would have went down to un-employment and prepared for a nice long govt vacation.

I am rather paranoid right now, but I'll just take a penalty and extract all the money from my retirement.

Wait, you interviewed with another company shortly after the last layoff, got the job, and have already been let go again?

Panera is a good destination during the day if you want to be around people and eat some good breakfast food. They have breakfast sandwiches and fountain drinks, so you can pretty much hole up there all morning. That's what I do to preserve my sanity and be around people while everyone is at work.

Good luck on the job search. I have an interview on Wednesday and a call tomorrow with a company I'm looking at applying too.

Yeah when I turned in my work laptop I went out and bought a MacBook. I love it and Best Buy has an 18-month no interest credit card available.

how much financial obligation are you locked into?

not a specific number or anything.... just, like, are you able to work temp, part time, or full time shit job and make ends meet while you look?

or, like most people, are you in a position where you'd collect more off unemployment than you would taking 40 hours a week at burger king?

i'm asking because if you can afford it at all, it might be a good time to take 6 months and set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd a bit. just one little gold star can shoot you from 50th percentile to 90th

According to the unemployment site, I would make $494/week and have an earnings allowance of $140/week. I'd still rather just get back to work, but being able to collect ~$640/week by working a part time job isn't too bad for now.

I didn't make enough, so even with unemployment I'd have to get a second job.

the question was for d7 cause i saw him talking about mortgage.

but as for what youre saying, you're actually better off working part time than taking unemployment? i was under the impression that it capped out high enough that for most people it wasnt worth taking any part time work under like 15 bucks an hour

well if I just did unemployment it would be just enough for bills and stuff, so I would have to work part time as well

not yet, so if you know anyone...

that's actually a pretty good idead Wadhead1. i've got tons of stuff i can do at the house to keep busy, but just being alone all day does get old. i appreciate the suggestion.

well, i have a mortage and student loan payments. no car payment, but i'm thinking any work i can get right now i will take. i'm not above working a shit job to make ends meet. i will be applying for unemployment this time though, and i'm not sure how much you can work while still getting gov't money. that's something i'll have to research.

i'm not sure how long i can take off. i see what you're going for here, and i completely agree. one thing i've considered is signing up for a night class to begin slowly working towards the Masters degree i eventually want to get. i've also heard (again, i need to verify this) that more financial aid is available for people without jobs that are taking college courses.

You can see an estimate of how much you will get on unemployment at the following site:

https://www.ncesc.com/individual/EstimateBenefits/ESTBenefitsMain.asp

It will also tell you your earnings allowance, i.e., the amount you can make at a part-time job before affecting the amount you would get through unemployment.
