"I just heard from ACC Associate Commissioner Michael Kelly, who said Clemson will earn one of the league's nine automatic tie-ins, and NC State will have to look elsewhere.

Clemson was deemed to have a "winning record" at 6-5 (one of those FCS wins did not count), but 6-5 is better than 6-6, so NC State is the team that will have to look elsewhere for a bowl.

So ... we'll know more after everyone else plays this weekend, and even possibly on Friday after we see how Louisville fares, and what Notre Dame is going to do. The key is how many other 6-6, or 7-5 teams are available.

The REAL question is who on Earth is going to play in the Eagle Bank Bowl? Wake is out. Maryland is out. And now NC State is out."

^^I was just about to post that. From her thinking, Clemson is going to Washington and we're left hoping the ACC has worked out a plan with an outside bowl. But are we really OUT of consideration for the EagleBank Bowl? I still doubt it.

So does this mean another at large team will bowl in DC? While Maryland and Wake fight over the last ACC tie-in in Boise, and the Maryland or Wake and NC State look for at large hosts? The NCAA follows the letter rather than the spirit of their silly laws yet again.

1) NC State wants to play in Eaglebank Congressional Bowl
2) The Eaglebank Bowl wants NC State
3) Maryland declines and Wake cannot play in the Eaglebank Bowl.
4) NCAA will not let NC State play in the Eaglebank Bowl, despite the fact the NC State, the bowl, and the other ACC teams all agree.

Even Navy is a loser in this scenario. Now they will play some crap Sun Belt team.

We should just show up take the Sun Belt team or whatever hostage, play Navy, and demand our payout.

^^Rules state that all 9 slots have to be filled by an ACC team. Just means that the bowls will have to work together to make sure Clemson or Miami are available for that bowl.

so say one of the ACC teams ahead of us turns down a bowl for whatever stupid reason, then we'd get in, right?

Here's the deal.... We still won 4 in a row to even get to this position! A lot of teams want us, it'll all work out.

I, too, have a feeling we will get a bowl.

But remember, it is NC State we are talking about...and we've seen weird stuff happen before.

There still needs to be an at-large bowl available to the ACC before anyone can decline an invite. All the 7-5 teams need to be taken. A few games this weekend will have an impact on whether that will happen.

We'll get a bowl somewhere, but I have a feeling it'll be an ACC bowl. Maryland has said they'll decline one of the bowls and Wake Forest can't play in one and UNC might not play in another due to rematch clauses. Plus the DC bowl has said that they really hope we're still in play because they seem to be highly interested in us. I suspect the ACC will come to terms with another bowl and let us have the DC bowl and Maryland have the one the ACC comes to terms with.

Poll on the right. It probably won't do any good, but it might show how stupid the NCAA is.

I would much rather play Ball State, if we pulled off a win against them it would be great in so many ways. But I wouldn't be able to go, where as I could swing DC easily. But at this point, I just hope we get a bowl, mainly because I think it would help us next season.

The ncaa is gay. Everyone knows we would be better $$$$$-wise in DC

You guys should really stop worrying about this, though. Lee Fowler is on the job. He's going to get us the worst possible bowl game.

i'm gonna go ahead and ramble about my teams bowl prospects in here

i can't figure out who i need to win in this weekend's louisville/rutgers game, because if rutgers gets another win they will probably go to the papajohns bowl, sending my team (uconn, for the uninformed) to the damn international bowl

but if rutgers loses, louisville becomes bowl elligible and thats another team we have to compete for a spot with

i suppose i should be more worried about what happens in our game vs pittsburgh this weekend, but whatever...

aight, go back to what you were talking about

i too will not be able to go to the Motor City Bowl but could make the DC one.

we really need for some teams to step it up this weekend to help our cause out but i do believe

we will be going bowling somewhere.

on a side note...
Ball state dont want any of this team right now.

honestly, i think there are just a few teams in the country that would want us right now... Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Texas Tech, Florida, USC, Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State

Other than those teams, I honestly would like our chances, and thats not me being delusional at all. I haven't seen an NC State team play this well since the 9-0 start.

If you look at the rankings, tell me you wouldn't like our chances to beat those other teams in the top 25 the way we are playing right now... Utah, TCU, Ball State, Cincy, UGA, GT, BC, BYU, etc... It's not like this is College football's strongest year

^You're probably a bit optimistic considering our lack of depth/experience on defense combined with the struggles we have with our receivers a. getting open b. catching the ball.

I actually agree with cali, I think we are playing some of the best football in the nation right now.. I think the way we are playing that we would definitely contend with any of the #10-#25 teams in the nation. Not saying we'd beat all of them, but we would beat a lot of them.

One question: Would the Eaglebank Bowl in DC become an "at large" slot if the ACC is unable to fill it through it's contracted tie-in, thereby releasing the bowl from it's contractual affiliation with the ACC? That seems like a way around the rule.

The bowls ahead of the Eaglebank have no obligation whatsoever to ensure every team fills an ACC slot. If Wake or Maryland drops to the slot there is no way the ACC could fill it. I'm not sure if the ACC has the leverage to deny Maryland the ability to accept any at large bids after declining a contractually affiliated bowl, but Wake is contractually barred from the Eaglebank. If Wake is that team it would seem the ACC could win a game of hardball.

Not entirely related but since this topic has TOB in the title I figured I'd post it. SFN is saying that if ND fires Charlie Weis, they might go after TOB. That makes me uncomfortable deep down.

^^ they still could not take a 6-6 team until all the 7-5 teams have bowl games

^i doubt it... they would try and go more high profile than that

esp. considering his catholic background on all that crap that ND still cares about with their head coach for some reason

maybe the thought of russell playing a few more years and then glennon will make this an easy choice for him
